AGN Interview with Matt Higby

We have released our full interview with Matt Higby, Creative Director for PlanetSide 2! We touched on a variety of topics including Generators, Territory System, and extending the Out of Bounds areas on the map. Check out the full recording below:

We apologize for not getting to the community portion of the interview last night. Techncial issues prevented us from completing the full two hour show. The good news is we will be on the air again next Saturday at 7PM CDT! We will talk with Sardus about his experience in PlanetSide 2 at Community day and discuss the topics from our interview with Matt.

And remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel and never miss any of our exclusive content!

I am really glad to hear about them thinking twice about the out of bound's sytem and letting it stretch out a few more hex'es of uncapturable arae before we get the message of doom. This was one of the only things I was truly worried about in planetside2.

The only reason I can see them not wanting us to go out further out over the ocean is because the water in game is not 100% how they want it yet (as said in the AGN video). I find that being able to go out of the map of the distance of a few more hexes will implement new stratagies for galaxys/libs and other aircraft like in ps1. plus this will feel like we have more freedom as the out of bounds system feels like were locked in box and pretty much comes up while still over land! Its really difficult to get across what I mean, but the freedom of being able to go out and fly over a bit of water away from the continent would feel so much better as whole.

Imageine ps1 with a out of bounds system, that would be terrible. ps1 lets you fly a pretty good distance before it stops you going further and thats what I like about it!

Great show as ever, thanks Hamma and Jenny.

I'm really happy with all the responses to the questions.
At this rate, PS2 really will smash PS into oblivion.

Yes, great show. Thanks Hamma for asking some good questions. I also got a kick out of listening to the Devs have a mini on the spot meeting.

One of the lingering questions I still have is, will there be TrackIR support for all of us flight jockies?

Do you have the community section recorded and will it be uploaded too somewhere?

Very cool, and thanks for the recording. One of these days I'll actually make it in and see an AGN live when it airs. I got home on saturday literally five minutes after the stream stopped.

Last I heard, they're waiting for TrackIR to send them something (a devkit?) for them to evaluate it and decide whether it's something they can/want to support.

That's alot of people in the office on a Saturday. These guys are really pushing hard to get this game out. wd

The fact that the devs are looking into other capture mechanics is really good. I think i heard a last man standing and a capture the flag as options thrown up. The fact that they were pretty vague about it means we have an opportunity to come up with some viable options for them to look at.

The talk about water means we might actually one day have undersea base battles

Some good info there. Surprised there were so many questions that hadn't been asked or actually answered previously.

I will say though - I hate rental systems, but they could get around the cert thing by allowing you to utilize the cert tree from a permanent weapon that's similar to the rented one. That way you wouldn't have to spend cert points on rental weapons specifically.

I am pleased he is laxing on features he was firmly against earlier on such as watery areas and flying around hotspots.
