Enrico has posted some more details on the upcoming free play or "Canon Fodder" program.

News on SOEs upcoming PlanetSide promotion has recently come to light, but we would like to some additional details to the promotion information. We would like to offer you and your readers some clarification, and we hope that you can help us by updating your initial posting.

New players will be able to download the PlanetSide Cannon Fodder demo and will be able to play for free through Battle Rank 6. Once they complete BR 6, they will be able to continue to play the game, but will not progress to Battle Rank 7, On exit from the game, they will be taken to a website that will allow them to upgrade to a monthly subscription, which includes the base game, the expansion pack (Core Combat) and the Battle Frame Robotics (BFRs), the giant robot units. Depending on skill, it can take a player up to 30 days to complete BR 6, which will give them plenty of time to see many of the cool aspects of the game. Additionally, players can continue on in the game at Battle Rank 6 for the entire 12 month promotion period.

This program is still in the works, and we have not locked down an official launch date as of yet, but is something that we hope to have live in the next few months. As soon as the program goes live, we will send you a link to the website where new recruits will be able to sign up for the Cannon Fodder program.

Additionally, all current PS players will be given an upgrade to Aftershock, meaning those last few holdouts in the PlanetSide community will finally be able to head underground to the cave system of Core Combat and begin the quest to pilot their very own walking tank.

For those who cannot wait for the program to begin, you can check out PlanetSide with our currently running demo, the Recruit a Buddy program, which offers 10 days of free gameplay. The link to the program is on the upper right side of the page.

PlanetSide: Aftershock can also be purchased digitally from SOEs Station Store here. Or from IGNs Direct2Drive here.

Thanks for working with us on this!

More details but curious, the February 14th date that was announced last week seems to be missing.

Update: Enrico just posted regarding the Feb14 Date:

That is a target date. Check Food Lovers Specials and Game Specials. We're going to do our best to hit that date so dev speak is definitely the correct answer
So February 14th may still be in the cards.

I had a really well explained and thourough Free CoreCombat thread a while back. Basically, I said give everyone free CC, BUT, with the registration dates of CC on each account, give that acocunt a cetain ammount of months free. Say you purcahesd it at $40, you would get 3 months free for compensation. Or, if you paid $10 for it, you would get 1 month free. Who ever didnt own it, got it for free, just without compensation. That was the idea in a nutshell.
