General World Details
The world of Planetside is vast. There are 10 large continents per World
Server. (You can have 4 characters per world) These continents have every type
of land imaginable, from rolling hills, rock formations, valleys, and mountain
ranges that stretch from coast to coast. You are able to get around the
continents mostly by way of several “Warp Gates” which are huge transports that
can move you from one continent to another. (See screenshot) Warp gates have
large areas around them to prevent “gate camping”, some guy just sitting around
picking off unsuspecting people who transport through the gate.
In addition, players have the ability to transport up to orbital facilities,
which can drop them on the map. However, you cannot drop IN enemy territory,
only in neutral territory. (You cannot take vehicles in an orbital
transport.)
When an empire conquers an entire continent, they will receive bonuses for
holding it. There are also large areas of neutral territory, which can be
claimed by empires. There will be several land types, such as temperate,
volcanic, arctic, and desert.
Players have a world map at their disposal to see which empires own what
areas of the world, and which areas are in dispute. Threat indicators are
provided so you know where to avoid (or go to if you’re a cowboy) Also, there
are protections in place to keep certain areas from becoming “too popular”
causing players to ignore everywhere else. As more friendly troops arrive in a
specific area, or at a specific base, the threat level will go down, which means
less BEP’s and CEP’s.
Weather is included in the engine, which ranges from heavy thunderstorms, to
duststorms, to snowfall. There is also a full night and day.
Bases, and Facilities
Each empire starts out with a variety of bases. All of these bases serve
different purposes. Bases are as vast as the world itself, they even stretch
underground. Players are able to sneak around corners, or barge around corners
depending on your style. These bases can be captured and used to stage attacks.
Seeing as how bases are different, there will be various reasons to capture
certain bases (medical terminals, for example.) In order to capture a base you
will need to get inside and hack its control console. Once this is done, the
attacking force will need to hold the base for a set amount of time before it
actually switches to their side. |
