So I hit apon a strategy recently, and have decided to share it.
Grendades. Lots and lots of grenades. And not plasma either... plasma doesn't stack.
Frags. The more the better. And that means a thumper or a PUNISHER.
Just about everyone has access to my friend the punisher.
Two boxes of frags: 6x3 for twelve grenades
12 regular hand grenades: 6x8
A direct hit from a frag grenade does 100 points of damage to MAXes and vehicles. 8 hits kills a health MAX. Now put 4 or 5 people spamming away through a tower door, and you've got a brutally fragged up MAX before he ever has LOS on you.
You TR types can get even better results with a locked-down pounder.
Tower defenders can use the same tactic. Grenade Spam.
A grenade or two by itself isn't going to kill much of anything (save an infiltrator). But en mass, they're SCREAMING DEATH.
They also work pretty well inside bases, but things tend to be a bit more mixed up, so you're more likely to rack up the grief.
So once you've managed to take the ground floor, the tower is pretty much yours. Send about half or a third of your force up to clear the top of the tower, and the rest continue to push the enemy back down into the basement.
Breaking Tower Equipment:
As an engineer/MAX/Driver kinda guy, I can fix broken equipment, so I don't feel bad about blasting it to pieces. Here's the deal:
Break one of the two spawn tubes... makes it easier to slaughter people as they emerge.
Blast the closer two inventory terminals to that working tube... make it difficult/impossible for someone to get their MAX on.
Using this tactic, even when I'm a lone MAX (Sparrow), I can still get everything back in working order. I can just use the remaining INV terminal to switch to an eng loadout.
If someone was unwise enough to blast that last terminal, all is not lost... so long as one of the spawn tubes still works. Most MAXes do splash damage, so I just kill myself and respawn. I have stocked my locker, so I don't need a terminal in order to get repair gear.
Oh, and until Towers get NTU silos, there's not much point in repairing tower equipment past the %50-now-it-works point. Once the silos are in though, keep in mind that auto-repair drains NTU.
