View Full Version : The problem with Vanu

I don't think the problem the vanu are having is from lack of numbers, or from lack of player skill, or unbalanced weaponry. It is from lack of organization. I had a discussion about this the other night with some guys in my outfit. From the leaderboards (http://myplanetside.station.sony.com/leaderboard.jsp) on myplanetside.com the #1 vanu outfit for number of members has 632 people as I am writing this. That outfit has a total of 349330 outfit points. That is about half the points that the #1 NC and TR outfits have. Those NC and TR outfits also have less than half of the number of people.
Now, the top 5 vanu outfits for number of members total over 1800 people. The top five for the TR is barely over 1000, and NC is just under 1000. We all know that this isn't because the vanu have alot more members overall than the nc or tr. So what does that mean? The vanu have roughly 800 more people in the 'verg' outfits than NC or TR, and the NC and TR have that many more people in more organized outfits (these are obviously rough estamates on numbers based just on those top five, but the proportions do seem to be accurate). Now I don't mean any disrespect to the people in the extremly large outfits, but I know people that are in some of them and I know that they don't have the same kind of organization as the smaller outfits.
So mabey the problem with the vanu isn't that they are unbalanced or lacking in skill. Just organized outfits. Playing with the same people every day can build a kind of teamwork that can accomplish so much more than just joining the biggest outfit and getting into the 1st squad that invites you.

Ya, somehow everyone with a lack of organizational skills happened to join Vanu.
Red and Blue with projectile weapons attract those with organization while Purple with energy weapons doesn't.
Must be a potassium deficiency.

early in the mornings the vanu zerg appears and locks a few continents. hossin one of them on markov.
i've yet to see an organized vanu attack. usually it's the heavy numbers that win the day for vanu.

Exactly...
Reality check, guys... you seem to have a block on the fact that there are five servers currently in general use. The prevailing opinion on the VS at present is pretty much the same across all of them.

Every Vanu should just take the Anti-vehicle skill :D
Ive tried playing as all the empires and the way i see it Vanu weapons ARE the coolest and best! Lancer is no doubt the best weapon ingame, while the jackhammer and minigun that everyone claims are the best doesnt really work ( my opinion ).
Come fight the Vanu on Werner and learn :D

Wouldn't lack of oranization fall under lack of skill?
:p

I beg to differ, my outfit was defending a base last night on Emerald, near the VS Sanc Warpgate and they didn't overwhelm us with numbers (we outnumbered them about 3-1) but sheer tactics. They sent their MAXs over the walls first, to clear out the courtyard as around 5 infils. broke through the back door. They had Magriders (WITH GUNNERS NO LESS ) patrolling the permiter incase anyone trys to escape, THEN they send in a full Galaxy of troops...needless to say, we got driven back :(

That just depends on how you define skill. I consider it the ability to use your weapons to kill your enemy. A single player can have alot of skill, but by themself no organization.
I should also note that I was refering to emerald server. I was also not saying that the vanu don't have any organized outfits. I know they do cause I've had battles with them. Just the fact that they don't have as many organized outfits as the other 2 empires.

actually it was funny. we were inside Amerish at Azeban holding the tower and defending our base after a fresh hack.
some squad of ass Vanu came and we took em out. then it was like all hell broke loose. they parked an AMS outside our tower under cover of lots of infantry so I called everyone back to the tower.
but at the same time the base was getting nailed by sunderers and galaxies.
i suppose it was organized but the sheer number of the vanu was insane. it was off the meatwrack how many fucking vanu came rolling us over. (I was in a squad of 6)
we were L o L ing on ventrilo. :evildrop:

I dont really think we (Vanu suck).
I played/ have used most certifications to play with and know and have a feel of them.
I have also played a fair amount of time against both NC and TR as my record can show.
I think there is a few factors that hopefully would come out of the "investigation" we are currently under to help balance all races.
- We lack/get owned by infantry at med/close range. Our Pulsar is simply not on par with the Gauss or Cycler... Keep the crappy damage long range but upping it closer should make us actually use it.
- Lancer is an AV weapon, it should not be very effective against infantry, damage VS should be toned down a little.
- Lasher is a nice weapon but would need to get orbs speed faster, ppl dodge it easily and we need to spam and spray in order to hit them.
In long-med range battle, we arent that bad at holding our ground, as soon as the Battle closes in (tower, inside base), we simply get owned by Jackhammer for one and the minigun for the other.
This is not based on skill but simple comparaison of Weapon VS at equal rank/class.
I am considering learning Heavy assault just to loot and use the jackhammer for when i am involved in tower defense... I know a few of my outfit are doing it right now, that by itself would seem to point to some inbalancing issues...
