Update: Just to let you guys know, PlanetSide Gaming's stats syndicator now syndicates character stats in the form of an image, as well as XML, HTML, and Javascript. Most people should find the image especially useful for forum signatures.

ragear from PlanetSide Gaming sends word that they have created an awesome XML/HTML stat generator. Here is what he had to say about it:


Since SOE hasn't added any XML feeds on MyPlanetSide yet, we've gone ahead and written some ourself. All you have to do is input the URL of your character from myplanetside.com, and then an XML and HTML file will be created allowing you to share your characters' stats with everyone else. Check it out.

btw the reason we have not done something like this here at PSU is we are waiting for the REAL XML stats from SOE. Why put all the work into parsing their pages when if they change one bit of code your entire script goes to shit :p

The official stats will be standard live XML streams.. the methods being used now involve parsing the entire jsp/html page and pulling out the needed info. Which is quite a bit of work for something that SOE is going to provide themselve ssoon.

Once they do provide XML there are really limitless options to what we can do with it :p

It was like an hour's work, not only that it was fun to do.
And not like modifying the script if they modify the page is difficult to do.
In any case you sound more like you're trying to discredit planetsidegaming for doing something creative that people like, when you haven't. Like it's "wrong" :p

NightWalker, I was considering adding the empire logo to the top right corner, as well as the character's face to the left. I 'feared' it might end up making the images a bit too bulky for forum signatures, but then again some people use images twice that size :p As for the font I'm sorry :p First time I made a script create an image on the fly.

And btw, "This stat thing is crap, I have 541 kills and it says I have 530....", obviously since this isn't an official method to get stats, having it retrieve stats everytime the image is loaded would be insane for several hundred users, so it only updates once per day at 6am.
Excuse my long post :p Point is, why say something negative about a feature to give the community the ability to show off their characters until SOE are finished with the official XML method. At which point we'll be providing the image sig option still (only updated more frequently) as well as some new ones.

Most places probably dont have an automated system for removal like us, so as long as you keep it under that it wont get owned by the ebil sigbot.
