i just listened to the new first AGN recorded message and the guy reporting said Van-Ooo. He said this near the end of the Broadcast when he was reading back a quote from a scientist about the warp gates. I remember reading that people were thinking it was pronounced Van-You or something of the kind. So will we stick with the AGN pronunciantion, or go with our own?

Yeah i don't get how people can't figure how Vanu is pronounced, pronounce it as it's written or if it helps think of Shamu and Babu.

I think the AGN and shoutcasts have a lot of potential, obviously this was the first AGN recorded message so of course Sony isn't going to put a lot of work into it, not until they are sure they are going to stick with it.

Hold the phone - this is not from Sony! This a fictional storyline just like Manitou's Triumvirate. The AGN is a "concept" with a storyline attached to give a reason for a shoutcasting setup. This is totally a community based project started here at PSU. The recording was done by my myself on a home pc and submitted as an example of what I think the AGN could be like.

Man... Vanu is a name completely made up by a bunch of Americans. Why the hell are some of you trying to put some very wierd non-english (american) accent to it? Remember hooked on phonics?? Those kids could do a better job! Heh, anyways... that was just a joke not a flame.

The serious side, a name invented by a tech geek should be pronounced completely phonetically.

Vah-nuuuu
van-new

etc etc, that group has it right!

Like Dio said, "...or if it helps think of Shamu and Babu."

Maybe we should ask the devs on this one :p

Ya never know if they intended it to be van-uh

Vanu is pronounced loser. I'd break that down phonetically for them, but I'm sure they are used to the feeling of being under someone's boot from other games and know the word well.

vahn-ew might work =p

almost the same sound as van-new, but leads away from a strong 'a' when pronounced =p

vah-new doesnt work in my mind thuogh, i think the 'n' should be in the first syllable

zMessiahz,
We'll have to make sure that we meet on a battlefield someday. Of course, you'll never know I'm there until you're respawning.

Vah-new would be the Japanese pronunciation. That may not be where it came from, but it smells like otaku to me.:D

I'm sure the ping against my MAX armor will wake me from my day dream long enough to send you back to flower-world. :)

I find that boys with no skill hide behind their armor. Please wear all the armor you think you will need, but make no mistake about it. I will be sending you back to your field of dreams.

otaku occasionally has a nice musky aroma, but usually it's more like rancid cabbage.

mistled: Ha! Hiding... coming from a sniper, lol. Step out onto the battlefield like a man. You do realize, of course, that your statement is more often and correctly applied to snipers right? Snipers have never scared me. I've also never seen them effect the outcome of a game too much. There is the occasional BS uber-sniper, but even those are not too difficult to neutralize.
