Damn it I was hoping this wouldnt happen. Some fool took my name on two of the servers (diffrent ppl) One of them is a vanu scum! And the other is NC bu he hasnt used his charater as of May 20th! http://myplanetside.station.sony.com/character.jsp?charId=383012&worldId=3 People who have characters that have no rank no kills and no certs should be removed after a weak!
GrayMalkin
2003-06-14, 02:49 PM
Someone has also taken GrayMalkin on 2 of the servers, though I'm not complaining about it, especially since I haven't even bought the game yet, but when I do there's nothing I can do about it. I have no more right to the name as an active player than the bought-a-monthly-fee-based-game-and-never-play guy who beat me to it. Guess if I wanna play on those servers I'll have to be creative and come up with a better name. ::gasps in horror:: It's just a game. Well, maybe it isn't... but... um... Actually, I'm hoping it's not :)

I shouldn't post this, some bastard fuck will probably do this right now. I hope my name isn't taken. I used to have --Spectre-- as my name but changed it so it would be different, but on SOE it's Sp3ctre69. It's gonna be taken, and I have the game, just can't play it...:(

i though you had to logon in Via ur SOE offical site name?
they should make it so that that also has to be ur name, then there would be no aruguments, ie 1st come 1st serve, then that that.
OR
if 2 people have the same name, then a location prefix is added to the start of the name so 2 gunner_uk2000s would mean that my name would be [Essex]gunner_uk2000.
that would stop there being so many people with exactly the same name

1st come 1st serve is how it is, and it works.... It would get rather confusing any other way. I do however think that beta users should have been able to pre register the handle for their hain char... but oh well.. I still got mine (MrVulcan).
I know that even in my outfit we have LiquidSnake, LiquiddSnake, and SolidSnake, all 3 diff people
But it still works.
I am very glad that I got my names (MrVulcan, Pirogoeth, Scotty (saved for anohter), DrMcCoy (saved for another)) on all US servers (never bothered to save my names on euro server since I dont plan to play there)
*and gunner, I dont quite get that loc prefix.... sorry.... could you type a couple more examples/details about what location would be specified?*
gunner_uk2000

as in ur Location.
i live in Essex, England, so i would be [Essex]gunner_uk2000 because i live in essex, then there would be a lot less chance of 2 people with the same name. ie so if some one came before me with the name gunner_uk2000, mine would be [Essex]gunner_uk2000, and his would be just plain gunner_uk2000.
but i think if someone hasn't been to that server for more than a month they loss the right to the name, and would have to enter a new name. but wouldn't loss all their certs, and BR, CMR, they would just have to enter another name
btw, do you have all ur certs stored locally, ie in ur PC, so that you can change servers without lossing all ur certs?

ah, ok. I would rather just go w/o the prefix and have to use another form of the name (MrVulcan = MrVu1can = Mr\/ulcan.....etc )
And also, you cant keep your char info on your drive? It is all stored on their side, you just log into your account (can access your char (or any other account if you have the log in info) from any computer with planetside installed on it. That is the nice thing about mmos, you dont need to be on your comp to use your char, just log on from anywhere. It also means that you cant hack your char to be br20 and cr5 :p
There is almost nothing beyond textures, etc stored on your drive.
Thus, every server you use, you have to create a new char and build them up.

so if you want to change server, you have to start all over again?
thats bloody shitty!!!!!!

Yep.... but under certain circumstance, neccessary. I just moved from Emerald to Markov after building a br15cr3. Log back on to Emerald just to find out i've placed back in charge of the outfit. =\
So anyway.... after a few more updates i think i'd be ready for a community wide character wipe. IMO this would solve alot of problem. Levels the playing field again. Wipes out players that aren't active. Allows new players that didn't really start off to well a chance to do it right this time. Maybe even switch empires for some ppl. But i don't think ppl wanna start over unless everyone does or have no choice. After spending as much time as they have on their character thus far. It was really hard for me to move servers. But in the long run i think or at least hope it's better for me. But where would i be now had i stayed on Emerald? One br15 plus one br12...thats alota points. :( As is now i feel like im totally behind where i should be. But oh well. Life sucks, press on.

Actually I prefer it, it emphasizes their age/mentality and allows me to prejudge people on a chosen name format.
Now being serious for a sec, names can be a really good way of getting a feel or what kind of person they are, I run a tight Outfit/Squad, always issuing orders, processing information, keeping everyone informed, unfortunaly (maybe its just my luck) people with those kind of names never seem to be able to follow orders... makes it easier for me to find a squad that will work.
P.S. the sort of squad I run isnt for everyone, I am in no way saying that becuase you do not like that style of command it makes you a n00b or anything like that.

I only put 69 on the end of my name because it's easier to remember! Same with 13, and some people who put 666, it's just one of those numbers you remember

I have my name PR24 reserved on EVERY server. Why you may ask? Well people are asshats and will smurf with someons name and act like a total ass. When people do this they now think it's one person and it makes a bad name for that person no matter what game he or she plays.
BF1942 was a great example, I had a guy use my name to go around TKing because I did not allow him in the clan. So I had a hard time letting everyone know it was not me and it was this asshat.
There are a million names out there get creative and original and your name will not be stolen in the first 2 minutes the game comes out.

Yeah but it sucks if you make websites and you can't get the name you want, so you have to change EVERYTHING. I want my PSU name to be the same as PS, but it's obvious my name will be taken. Let the confusion commence!

I preordered and got my name on both of the east servers early. In Tribes2 someone got my name first and I was stuck with the number for ever. That person never played either which made it even worse.

ive had 5 people say i "stole" or "took" their name. For real, then they go, "im stuck with this shitty name now"
