hey all. i've been wanting to get a good RPG lately, and have been looking at Everquest. my problem is though, which one do i get? theres 5 expansions to it, but wheres the main "base" game that i buy? and is this game really fun and worth getting? and if not, should i just wait for Star Wars Galaxies?

just give me the basic information of the game if you can, thanks

ATI = Graphics Card Manufacturer

Like, Sone & PlanetSide works closely with nVidia, Squaresoft & FF XI is working with ATI which is good cause I got an ATI 9700 Pro

Asheron's call "was" the shit, then it got boaring because of all the high levels, it kicks EQ ass anyday, try AC1 or 2 they are both fun, they have updates ever month so it always changes.

any decent MMORPGs are going to cost money montly
Just check www.mmorpg.com and click the games list. you can check what gaves are in devolpment, alredy out, or in beta testing. Also dates for their release (if known) and ratings by members.

EQ was pretty good i thought. It was fun, and goofy, and just fun. It's hard to describe the coolness of it. But if your not into fun, goofy games like that, then i would recommend DAoC. Much better combat system, and you can fight other people

Shadowbane is pretty fun. Except for the last 3 days there has been un playable lag. Its primarly PvP, leveling is easy, getting items is easy, almost all the cities are player made as well. Those cities can also be torched !

The game is weird and divided, you have people who don't think twice about killing anyone thats not allied or in there guild.

Then you have the EQ people or carebears, ALL THEY DO IS LEVEL TO LEVEL 60 MAKE MONEY HELP LOWER LEVEL CHARACTERS AND MAKE ANOTHER CHARACTER! THEY DON'T KILL ANYONE BESIDES THE GUILDS THAT JUST KILL EVERYONE! THE ANNOYING PART IS NOW THE CAREBEARS ARE STARTING TO WIN. THE GAME IS BECOMING THE SUCK.

The topic should be "Evercrack?" instead of "Everquest?"

whoever said that FFXI was good, was wrong. IMO, it was really really bad. Generic MMORP, very very generic. The scenery is orgasmic, the character design is so so, but the combat system blows.

for real zetra where did you get this info. i mean i love the FF serious and was really looking forward to this...

if it does blow this is a huge dissapointment

i played a test version a while back in japan. I like the FF series too, and that's maybe why i thought it was bad. I dunno, it jsut wasn't original at all

well, i downloaded the Neverwinter Nights demo, and so far its pretty sweet. graphics are really nice, and combat system is really unique. hopefully Everquest is like this :love:

EQ is way different from NWN, totally different concept, graphics, and play system.

EQ is a good game and I still have an active acccount and play from time to time.. mostly on the weekends though. There is ALOT to see and do in EQ but it can get very time consuming and repetative as you enter the higher levels (51+). It is still the best MMORPG out there and worth getting if you want to try it. The best way to start is just buy plain ole eq and see if you like it. If you like it or just want to leap in, get Everquest Gold which has ALL the expansions included. Alot cheaper than buying each one individually. Many of the expansions you will not use until 30+ though so you may want to see if you like it first.

Eq2 is looking interesting, SWG does not interest me at all, DAOC is alot of fun too just low on content. The pvp does help DAOC but it can be sporadic and if realms get population imbalance in can just become a zerg or be zerged festival.

Hitman-

If you're not looking for a MMORPG-kind of experience, stay away from EQ. To get anywhere in that game you need to be grouped and make a lot of high level friends, not to mention devote your all of your spare time to it in order to get any sense of accomplishment.

If what you are looking for is a good RPG that looks and plays great, go ahead and pick up the full version of NWN. The original campaign that comes with the game is pretty good, though not epoch-shatteringly fantastic, but there are tons of player made content, some of them very, very good. There's always something new to play. Also, the NWN expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, will be on store shelves this coming Wednesday, with a second expansion (Hordes of the Underdark) later this year or early next.

Want my advice on SW:G??

Don't buy it, at first it looked nice... then there was this huge rush to the gold for newbies aka SW:G's doom.

They bitched and whinned and finnaly got their way, just like Ultima online. So the carebears won... wich would now mean the end of the big faction pvp zones and the start of limited pvp zones for ONLY factions and no looting...

Then they finnaly announced they would cut some of the features they had announced a year before, mounts for example... oh you can tame them... just can't ride em yet (-_-'). I have wasted alot of time following this game and let me tell you it aint worth it... it really isnt.. since the carebear rush the no pvp zones were implemented no looting policy they made jedi's capable of killing a squad of 20 when low lvl.

Stick with planetside do not go to the carebear side!

That vaporware myth is old news sir, check out their website. Atari is their publisher and I'm in the beta. The game owns.

opinion:

SWG is ok. Still in beta and no Jedi have been introduced yet, so no way of knowing whats what with those..and anyone making it to actual Jedi status is no longer Low-level by any stretch.

It strongly depends on your focus. It aint EQ in space as so many have touted it...nor is it Unreal Tourney with a StarWars tilt either. More like UO than anything else, but even that is a stretch.
PvP is NOT the primary focus, altho you'd be hard pressed to say what the primary focus of the game actually is at this point. Stuff changes daily.

Its different and I strongly recommend waiting until its out before judging it.

EQ = never again

I played until... level 20 or so. So a few weeks. Quit right after and never looked back. Anyone who gets addicted to a game as bad as EverQuest needs to get their head and their ass wired back together, because they're definitely not thinking clearly.

As for MMORPGs coming out, just wait for WoW. Given that Blizzard has the talent and committment to make sure WoW lives up to Blizzard's lofty reputation, it is the only MMORPG you can be absolutely sure it'll rock.
