Oh Noes Teh Laptop Needs An Upgrade!

Yes I am seriously considering veturing out into the dangerous world of upgrades for a laptop. Any one know of sites that can help me in this endevor?

You'd have to call up your laptop manufacturer and ask them if it's possible and to what you can upgrade. Then come here with the list they give you (if any). You WON'T be upgrading it yourself, trust me. ;)

And yes the 9000 mobile is nice, I'm on one right now and it runs planetside quite well. :D

in Maximum PC in like one benchmark it beat the Geforce FX5800ulta (they had the VPU on a AGP card) and i say thats pretty damn good for a portable that can conserver power and it can be upgraded :) :) now wheres daleon with that damn bananna of his

It's a sager 5670 (www.pctorque.com). Just got it a few days ago and I LOVE it. :) I'll probably be posting pics when I get time...

im srry im not into this whole like man love thing so lets stop that and powda u say u dont have money for broadband but u spent 2k on a laptop dsl is about 50 dollars a month X 12 months = $600 a fraction of $2000

It's not that I don't have the $$ for broadband, it's that it's not in my area (cable is coming in a few weeks though!). I live in the sticks, and they just never put in the lines (not even for cable tv).

The laptop was something my college next year required too, so it wasn't just a random investment. Believe me, I'm still paying it off. :)

I'm scrouging a decent laptop from work soon. They upgrade every year and we auction off all the old laptops. Should be some P3 800's for about $50. I cleaned up last year, $100 for a few dual cpu DEC servers, and tons of high speed networking equipment, etc. Gonna put the laptop into my car and wire in a tight video system. Most of them have 64 meg radeons to so should be able to do some simply gaming, or atleast Mame in the ride. Hell yeah.

I live in New Hampshire, and may have cable internet in a few weeks. :) They finally put in the lines!

Prowler: Look at www.pctorque.com. Sager laptops (the brand PCTorque sells) is what alienware buys. Alienware just paints them to look prettier and jacks the price up a LOT, just like they do with the desktops. Doesn't mean they suck, but you can get the same thing for a lot cheaper. :)

So look on www.pctorque.com and www.sagerforums.com (for reviews/etc). I'm extremely happy with my sager, and if you wait a few more months you'll be able to get one with a radeon 9600 pro mobile. :D

Yes, college 2nd year. I go to Hofstra which is like 30-40 minutes from where you are going. ;)

If its not too much of a personal question, would you mind mentioning how much you're paying a month for that laptop?

I've been reading the reviews on your particular series, especially the reviews tailored to gaming, and I have to say I'm in love. Even considering cashing in my box for it. That kinda leads to a new question: Do you think I could get more selling my comp as parts or as a whole?

Mine was $2,424 with shipping. :) You guys that now want sagers though should wait for the new models to come out (few weeks to a month). They're going to be worth the wait for sure.

My laptop isn't quite as good as what powda has, but it does run ps well for a laptop. Still lags and slows down in big battles, but i'm impressed with its performance for a laptop. I could use more RAM though, but the upgrade is unbelieveably expensive. Around $215 to bring it up to a gig of RAM. (for those who didn't see my post) Current specs are:

Dell Inspiron 8200
2.0 ghz P4-m
512mb DDR pc2100 RAM
64mb Mobility Radeon 9000
40gb Hard Drive
win xp home

I really would like some more RAM and that new mobile 9600, which looks unbelieveable, but i don't think its possible to upgrade the graphics card in a laptop. Its prolly really expensive if it is. ut it works quite well as is.

I meant more what your monthly payments were, cuz that would help me visualize whether i could swing it next month, or have to wait a while to save up.

lotta point to that post.

Anyway, I know I won't get a *lot* for my comp, but it should put a little bit of a dent in the cost of the new laptop. And I work for a living, so I think I can swing the monthly payments on the new laptop, just curious what it might be. But I think I might have figured the payments out anyway. Maybe $50-70 a month for 2-3 years. So I might pick up a Sager next paycheck.
