View Full Version : Command chat, bug or feature?

When people hit CR2, they get command chat, but can only communicate with other CR2 commanders, likewise CR3 commanders can only talk to other CR3 commanders and so on... My question is, is this intentional, or a bug in the game code? I haven't really seen anyone adress this, so I really don't know what to think, but it seems quite stupid to me.

I'm almost positive that it's intentional. It does seemweird, and probobly should be changed. Some people have said that they created that way so CR 3 players wouldn't have to listen to 'lower class commanders', as CR 4 players wouldn't have to listen to CR 3 players and so on.

I still think Cr5 commanders should be able to listen to em all....just to get a SITREP every once in a while.

There were probably just so many commanders yapping on command chat that they decided to give each command rank their own channel. :)

Hello,

It is definitely a chain of command concept, but it would be nice for higher ranked CR's to be able to turn on or off the lower ranked CR's communications. The intelligence gained at lower levels is not always, rarely in this game I suspect, going to be forwarded up the chain as it should. Likewise, who's to say the CR4's will tell the CR3's what the CR5 commanded?

Frankly, on Emerald at least, I have seen very poor communication between CR's. We need a online source to search for fellow commanders perhaps by name, and then we can at least have people on a friend's list to check with them. Right now the /command chat seems very limited when it could be extremely useful instead.

SITREPs are nice, but so are MISREPs. I want to know what happened after a mission as well as get intelligence before and during them!

8-)

 I see almost NO communication between commanders.

omg, that's the dumbest thing I've heard about this game.

I just got CR 2 and was fired up to be more "in the loop" so I could place my squad where we are needed.

Man... I was wondering why the channel has been so empty.

My god that's dumb. It doesn't facilitate communication at all then.

Hello,

I plan to start making my own list of CR's stepping up to lead on Emerald. Anyone directing folks in the CR continent or global chats will have their names written down, and then I will send information to them as I believe it is warranted. Currently this is the only way to handle communication. We can do it, but it is not as easy as it could be.

There is no way to get a /who all CR5 on a server, right? Or any such command?

Thanks,

Hamma

Lower CR's can talk to higher CR's however.

The /report command allows you to broadcast to all CR's higher than yourself. I believe it is continent wide as well. I was at the southern part of amerish last night giving battle reports and a CR4 way up north by Tumas was hearing me.

Normal command chat goes up in range as you advance in CR

Ahh, awesome. Thx Hamma. That makes me feel better. At least there is some sort of mechanism which facilitates communication between commanders.

"I still think Cr5 commanders should be able to listen to em all....just to get a SITREP every once in a while."

having that alone would help tons.

and to not only listen in but to be able to talk in each one.

maybe have a command like /cr2 <text> or /cr4 <text>

report is inefficient. with the mass of tells already it's more difficult to be typing out /tell <name> <text> everytime u want to talk to a lower ranked commander.

I agree. We should demand at least an In-game help system that documents these things, if not an online one. Hell, I'd volunteer to edit the current one for them in exchange for some free time, if they would just give me a list of the commands.

Once we get PSU 2.0 up and running I will put up some sections with various game info, undocumented commands. etc

Hello,

Okay, thanks for the information Hamma. So let me get this straight as a CR2:

1. My /c for /command go to SOI fellow CR1's and CR2's.
2. My /r for /report go to continent wide CR3's through CR5's.
3. Anytime I see a [Report] message it came from a CR1.

Is this correct?

Thanks,

Hamma

I am not entirely sure how it works..

/c is not just within an SOI, its within some form of radius I do not understand. You will chat with fellow CR's that are at your level.

/report (/r does not work) goes to CR's higher than you. So if you are 2 it will go to CR3+ folks. If you are CR3 it will go to CR4+ folks. etc

Is there a corresponding /direct (/order, /command, /whatever) capability for upper level commanders to give instructions to the underlings without /tell-ing?

Hmm... in the patch notes for the upcoming patch it says:

9) Command chat works properly again.

This might have something to do with it, but since they don't tell what problem they are fixing, there's no way of knowing...
