View Full Version : Upcoming Patch Notes

Since I didnt see a thread on this.. Spork has released the notes for the upcoming patch.
Upcoming Patch (v.1.5)
1) The Skyguard anti-aircraft buggy is now available for use. Enjoy!

2) Hotspot algorithms have been improved. The Hotspots now scale up and down in size so that you can see the relative size of the battles in progress. Additionally, they are much more accurate (there is always a battle there now if you see a hotspot) and they refresh much more often. You should find them much more useful in finding battles now.

3) You can now respawn to a hacked building if you are a member of the owning Empire. Previously, once a building was hacked, the option to respawn there was unavailable. This is no longer the case.

4) The Advanced Hacking certification is now required in order to hack equipment terminals or vehicle terminals.

5) The issue where vehicles purchased at a vehicle pad would sometimes fire from the weapons pad (instead of their muzzle points) causing players unintentional grief when they killed their friends accidentally at the pad, has been fixed.

6) You can now assign keys to the camera in/out functions on the Keymap screen.

7) Errant hotspots no longer show up in corners on the Global Map.

8) You should no longer lose your text input cursor when death messages occur in the status window. (Only happened on a few screens, like the /bug screen.)

9) Command chat works properly again.

10) Because "H" is typically the hotkey for "Help" and because "H" was the toggle for "Hotspots" on the map screen, there was no hotkey for Hotspots that functioned. "Hotspots" now has a hotkey of "O" on the map screen.

11) Missiles no longer move with their shell shape sideways. They fly properly to target now.

12) Waypoint beams now sort correctly against hill bottoms and buildings so that the base of the beams no longer shows through those objects.

13) The HART Shuttle is now visible on the proximity map while inside an Shuttle Building.

14) You can no longer see infiltration suits while your view is zoomed.

15) Spitfire turrets can no longer fire at targets inside a warpgate bubble.

16) The exploit allowing folks to get the stealth effect to "stick" to an incorrect armor type has been sealed.

17) First-time help tab (on your Character Info screen) now shows all completed first-time tasks.

18) Magrider Heavy Rail Beam projectile now fires in the center of the reticul e (instead of slightly above).

19) Players can no longer avoid Phalanx Wall Turret fire by merely strafing left.

20) Fixed an exploit that allowed infiltration suits to equip rifle-sized objects.

21) Fixed an exploit that allowed folks to damage objects while they were supposedly linkdead.

22) You can no longer hack an enemy base if the friendly base connected to that base (on the lattice) is already hacked. In otherwords, if your base of operations is hacked, you can't use that base to link to other enemy bases. Therefore, you can't hack enemy bases until your own rear area is secure.

23) 3000x800 video resolution is now supported.

24) You no longer crash if you exit a vehicle while it is upside down.

25) Pulsar was boosted in damage slightly per shot against soldiers. Also, the AP fire rate was increased to match that of Standard shots.

26) The VS MAX Quasar had its default ammo increased from 40 to 60 shots. It's AP damage is ever so slightly less to compensate, but its infantry damage is the same.

27) The population lock indicator has been changed to show how many slots are left for your Empire on that continent. In otherwords, it now shows a number instead of a percentage. The number caps out at 100, so if more than 100 slots remain on a continent, the indicator will say "100+".

I snipe and I think it's fair. Infiltrators have enough crap to deal with in terms of Darklight and whatnot, they shouldn't have to worry about snipers plinking them from 300m away.

Bout time for this one! Couldn't stand defending a base where I couldn't respawn at the dumb place. It used to force you to attack your base that they are attacking which pretty much is lose then. So definitely a change I will love to have over any other.

Yes the Liberator is suposed to come out within the next week, and there are gonna be rearm/repair pads inside the courtyards for the ground vehicles, and the airpads which are allready in will repair/rearm air vehicles. Not Gal's though (unless they make some bigger pads).

What I would like them to see is to increase the accuracy on the sniper rifle when looking around (very slowly), and decrease it quite a bit when running.
And the blastdoors/forcefields they said is comming within 3 weeks..

My CE infil used to try, but it takes 3 or4 boomers per tube, and I can only carry 4 and a REC, not to mention how long it takes to place them, bound to be cought.

What I did was blow the equipment terminals, plant a boomer between the right and middle and left and middle. Blow those, the middle one explodes, and the others are damaged. Then put one infront of each remaining terminal (I like to wait for some to be re-equiping at them first, for that extra jazzy touch) blow them, take a moment to be proud. Then hope no one remembers the 4th terminal.

That's because the name stops appearing after a certain distance, and it's impossible to judge whether the infil is friendly or not. I got to the point that I had to absolutely know that the infil wasn't friendly (as in firing on one of our men) before I'd pull the trigger.
I also killed an infil friend in a hallway, no name showed up but I couldn't run past a certain point so I pulled out my sweeper and he fell dead. Oops.

I can't help but wonder where they got the inspiration for their vanu 'fixes'. their approaches to balance seem to have nothing to do with the actual weapon's usefulness or what people point out in any given message board. the only saving grace is that they didn't mention the lasher or thresher so I can hope/pray that this is not all they intend to do in balancing vanu...because this is not nearly enough, nor is it correct.

Excellent!

Well, the cheaters be damned, and the exploit fixes are the most awesome thing about this upcoming patch. There isn't anything else in a game that pisses me off more than a punk arse cheater. the two major exploitable fixes about to go live will make the game a ton more enjoyable for me personally. When I get owned, I want to know it was fair. hehehe

The buggy will be nice. I'm looking forward to testing it out. I believe it will cut down on the swarms of reavers and mosquitos in the sky, and it will make protecting AMS's and convoys from air attack much more possible.

I was fighting VS almost all the time for the little bit I was on last night, and they were doing very well. People saying their weapons suck boggle my mind frankly, and they were easily holding their own against us NC by using good tactics. Their combat engineers in particular did a fantastic job helping to defend a tower on solsar last night around 9-11PM EST. I was impressed and died a lot trying to break their defenses. They don't need better weapons imho and based on my experience, but we'll see how the changes go!

There is a wonderful mix of changes coming, so my hat's off to the people working on PS. Thanks!!!

What weapons were the VS using though? I bet you didn't see tons of pulsar, beamers, thresher, and lashers did ya? Prob alot of rocklet rifles, spitfires, mines, decimators, sniper rifles.. VS does well with the common pool and lancer but that is still not a good reason for their other weapons to suck. Pulsar may get a bit better but not if they do not change the damage drop off with range.

I bet you didn't see tons of pulsar, beamers, thresher, and lashers did ya?

I for one saw TONS of lashers last night. The VS had 4-5 guys with lashers covering a tower door -- let me just say that no one made it out that way. CC defenders were also carrying lots of lashers. Both perfect opportunities for the lasher to shine (at TR's expense, heh).

Also saw several guys carrying pulsars, which are not nearly as bad as I thought at medium range (say, ~100m or less). They seem to be considerably more accurate than the cycler at that range, even if damage per shot is lower.

Didn't see any beamers or threshers though...I will agree that those are two worthless pieces of "technology". :)

Most VS i know that cert in heavy weapons is not for the lasher, but so they can loot a jackhammer or minigun :)

Hello,

I saw a lot of maxes, some kind of fast firing electric assault rifle (maybe this is the pulsar?), and a lot of VS sniper rifles. I don't know what the weapon they were using was most of the time, but they were definitely electrically based. You have to keep in mind that such weapons kill through armor easily. They used tactics, not just engineers and common pool equipment.

For example, they were concentrating fire VERY effectively. When you were seen, it wouldn't be one person shooting at you. It would be three or four. It was a superb battle to have watched from a distance because the VS were working together so well. They were not ant-lining, and they were counter attacking in groups. Maxes would come out of the tower two or three at a time with infantry supporting them. They had guys in the turrets and people repairing them as quickly as we blew them up.

The only disadvantage I noticed the entire fight was that out in the open and when alone, the VS are out-gunned easily. This is because of skills imho though, not from their weapons. I simply led them better, aimed better, and moved better with my supressor than they did with their weapon. They killed me with their weapons though, and NC ultimately got pushed back because we were out numbered and our tactics were not as good. NC kept ant-lining and everyone was disorganzied. It seemed to me we had 20 snipers and no one willing to charge the base of the tower. Without getting close, we were doomed.

Jarlo

Agathon is more skilled that any soldier in the VS army.

All bow down to his superior skills!

When I play NC I beat VS one on one nearly 100% of the time. However I do not think I am more skilled than the other player, just better armed. Before I picked up the amazingly powerful jackhamma again I was beating Lasher users with sweeper shotgun or Gauss pretty easily... and that is just WRONG.

Do not attribute your one on one victories only to your skill, weapons make alot of difference. It is not right that there has to be 3-4 VS concentrating fire to hold off an enemy, they should win one on one fights.. and they DON'T!

Of course maybe you are simply more skilled than all the VS players you fought, if so then more power to ya.

Agathon
2003-06-19, 11:43 AM
Hello,

Jarlo, hehehe, I wasn't bragging man. The argument that it is just better weapons does't work with my example at least because I was playing my newbie GrobbDsM, and all I had when not in a max was a supressor! ;-) I only spoke about my personal experience because the VS last night had stuff other than the supressor, and they were electrically based. I'm no expert on their weapons because I do not play them nor have I tested their weapons. I also said they did kill me last night, but I just found one on one fights easier than I would up against a TR guy with a cycler or chain gun. <smile>

Maybe it is their weapons, and they fire too slowly or inaccurately when the opponent is on the move? I'm not bragging but just trying to give personal examples.

8-)

PS We all know the supressor is actual kinda nice in regards to accuracy, and if I have the time to empty a mag into someone they will die. It is a weak weapon but highly accurate! hehe

if you do some hunting around on the *shudder* official forums you'll find that spork reworded that particurlar line somewhere else.

you CAN see infiltrators if you are zoomed. the difference is that now you are forced to live with all the rules of visibility as if you were looking at them normally. ya see, there was this bug where zooming in 'concentrated' (only word I can think of) all of the white predator-like glowyness you would see at normal non-zoomed range into a gigantic neon-white (stop laughing!) beacon of visibility. basically, if you zoomed in on an area and did a sweep with your scope you were 100% guaranteed to find any and all infiltrators regardless of their status of movement or activity. they could be standing perfectly still for 10 minutes with absolutely nothing around them and if you did one zoom-sweep they lit up like a christmas tree.

additionally, Agathon, please play as vanu for day or so. they ARE gimped. many Vanu are amazed by the fact that we weren't literally so gimped that our weapons all did stupid stuff like snare the enemy or mez them. yes, our weapons still do damage and are technically capable of killing people. they are not, however, balanced in any way, shape or form. the only thing I'm willing to even get close to grudgingly accepting balance on (even after this kick-to-the-nuts 'boost') is the lancer. howver, I still say it should lose the CoF bloom, lose the AI damage, lose the travel time and get down to the business of actually hurting some vehicles.

As far as I know, report goes to your rank and higher and that's how it's supposed to function - a "report" to the higher commanders.

They could also be referring to continent chat being flagged CR5 instead of CR4, though. You can only continent broadcast at CR5 now, when it's supposed to be 4.
