this is my very first post. I just bought planetside tonight, and can't wait to visit my friendly neighborhood cyber cafe and play it tomorrow. I've played it at a friend's house, and have pretty much decided i'll be a konried TR advanced medic. Besides that, what certs would you suggest? (i've already decided against reinforced, as it makes you slow as fack.) Also, what implants would be best for a medic?
...anything i should know before i start that i wouldn't learn after 10 hours of playing at a friend's house:confused:
that is all.

Get the Darklight implant. Cloakers are a pain in the ass. :p
Hrm, cert wise it's all up to you. If you are going to get Adv. Medical then you might as well get Engineer so you can repair friendlies' armor. If you go agile, then get at least medium assault or maybe heavy assault. If you go Infiltration, then get surge implant, it helps you get where you want, you run at about the same speed as a MAX in run mod, and get you out of sticky situations.
Test everything out, do what you want to do. ;)
Have fun playing Planetside.
Edit:
Err. Welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay. :D

If you want to be a TR adv. medic, you're gonna be in the thick of things (usually), so a cert in Medium assualt is a must. Don't go for Heavy assualt, becuase unless the devs fix the TR's lame heavy assualt, it's worth nothing. Medium assualt and special assualt are good. Now if you were NC, I could very well see why you'd go heavy assualt :D. The cycler is a nice close range rifle. If you want cheap kills, get a Rocklet rifle (Special assualt). If you want an effective way to kill a Jackhammerer (a specialist you will learn to hate), the thumper works very well with it's first rate indirect fire capabilities. You also get a slow, dumb-fire, but buttfarkin powerful anti-vehicle weapon; the decimator. All this for 5 certs (Medum 2 + special 3).
Just to warn ya, advanced medics don't yet have good purpose. Might as well stay normal medic, cause your adv. uniuie ability, resurecction, will go to waste because people tend to choose their respawn istead of waiting for a rez. Engineering and combat engineering are also useful. You can both repair and heal. You will get to lay mines, which will tend to get you kills you didn't expect :).

that's the one thing i know i don't want: darklight. as long as i've played, i haven't YET not been able to completely pwn anyone in an infiltrator suit. they're predictable, too many other people have Darklight, and people act dumber when they're cloaked.
seriously.
i'm considering mainly an implant that will keep me alive longer, through shielding or hp replenishment, or other such things. what are your views on
-advanced targeting
-audio amplifier
-personal shield
-second wind.
basically, i want something that will keep me alive long enough to find a nice spot to medic myself.
thanks for your advice, though. i know how many people like darklight.
edit: i know i want adv medic. it recovers much faster, and i'm just a medicey guy. as for the jackhammer, i nearly took out a Re armor jackhammerer using a supressor. i did have to duck out and hide for 5 seconds to heal, though. sent a /t afterwards, i got him down to 18 hp.

Second Wind is crap as of now. By the time you have low enough health for second wind to kick in, that extra 25 hp won't do you any good. Armor is everything in Planetside. I have yet to try personal shield, but from what people tell me, it too is crap. ;) Audio Amplifier is good, a lot of MAXes use it. Good for ambushing people. Advance Targeting... well, I don't know, do you really need to know how much HP your enemy has? Seems kind of pointless to me. But then again, it's me.
Edit:
Unless they somehow nerfed the Chaingun post-release, then it still owns. During the end of beta, I did nothing but agile and Chaingun, took down many many infantry and MAXes. :D

Adv. targetting is useful for snipers to get rid of the damaged opponents. Dark light is a must, never leave home without it. Surge is also good for those times when you need to haul ass. Audio amp. is too unreadable... it shows enemies on other floors as though they were right next to you.

Hrm, I guess they changed Advanced Targeting. You had to be like 50-100m away from the person to have it show their HP.

If your gonna be a pilot, Adv. Targeting and Adv. Rane Magnification are godsends, turn on Targeting when you find a target, then pound it away from X12 zoom :)

i dunno WHAT you're talking about, man. the chaingun can't hit the broad side of a barn.
but i've lurked these boards for ten days, and i DON'T wanna see another HA weapons argument.
fack, i was really hoping 2nd wind or personal shield would be good. do you think personal shield would be good for me, though, since i can also heal myself up ?
crap, i don't wanna go for all the stereotypes.
once again, i hate darklight. i'll get it 2nd or probably 3rd, if ever. if i run into any infiltrators with actual skill, they may somehow change my mind.
as for my weapondry preference, i prefer weapons that are effective at short range, but are accurate enough to be used for long-range in a pinch. thus, the cycler's my choice.

Personal Shield is suicide. Once your Stamina (aka, the shield itself) is depleted, sure, you just saved yourself from taking 100 damage, but now you are stuck at walking speed until you stay motionless long enough to regen 20 stamina. If you're a MAX, go for it, but I don't recommend it for infantry.

Personal Shield is hellishly ineffective unless you can manage to cut it off before you reach 20 stamina, which somewhat ruins the point, anyway.
Essentially, just agreeing with Warborn on this one.

They didn't change it, it's useless for snipers. I found it halfway useful for my infil to know which suckers were on death's door that wouldn't take more than one knife swipe, but otherwise I haven't had much luck in figuring out useful situations for it.

i'm now BR 5.8. my certs are as follows:
medic
adv medic
med assault
coming soon: AMS
and i'm pretty sure i'll just go with surge or audio amplification.
good ideas?

I havn't posted here before so i'd like to first say hi thanks for having me. secondly i'd like to say that i personally like the regeneration implant, i'm a stealther and the regeneration implant keeps me going forever it seems, just find a corner and heal up, as long as you aren't moving your stamina recharges and it fills up your health in no time, then go back to whatever you were doing, of course it is easier to sit still as a stealther, just my 2 cents

hahahaha.
you DO realize i'm an advanced medic, right?
:) i heal myself in corners just fine.
thanks, though. i'll remember that if i make an infil later on
