Hey guys,

I just installed planetside last night and will start playing this evening. I was wondering if there is anywhere you can download the planetside patches online and then apply them manually. I have 56k at home, and I imagine downloading will take forever, but I have a T1 connection at work where it would be a much faster download.

If anyone knows of any locations or if this is even possible I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

You have to patch through the launcher. You can not apply patches manually

Bummer....thanks for the reply. Does anyone who has 56k at home have any experiences with downloading the patches and know how long it took them approximately?

Thanks.

The first patch is insanity to download, if I remember correctly it was in the neighborhood of 12 hours. I set it up as I went to bed and woke up the next morning to find out that my ISP had dropped me at some point in the download, and if you drop at any point you start over from scratch. The last patch was pretty quick, 40 minutes or so if I remember correctly. I haven't downloaded today's patch yet but I'm assuming it's at least an hour, so you might be looking at ~14 hours right now.

Were you upgrading off of beta or off of the retail? I was upgrading off of beta and it was much smaller, but I was having some trouble getting everything to work properly so I wiped it and reinstalled. That's a nice surprise to find out that my final beta was further along than my retail pack and it suddenly doubled my patch size.

actually you can grab them from another source, bring in your HD to work, install the game on it, run the launcher, d/l the files, go home, copy the whole folder over to your computer at home, and there ya go!.

Found this out as we have a cap on our d/l per month, we d/l it once, then copy it to the other ppl that play it. saves on how much we need to d/l :D

There's no reason that you can't apply the patches by hand, and patches DO resume for whole files that you already downloaded as part of a patch. The patch program, assumedly, just does CRC checks on your PS directory and compares it to a master list from the last patch on Sony's servers. You should be able to just copy the files over yourself.

It is :p

You're looking at a difference between a 150+ kb/sec download rate compared to a 5 kb/sec rate.

depends how many patches you are downloading...
I just got the game and it ended up taking over 4 hours to patch on a 600k cable connection...
It seemed to be downloading each of the patches is sequence and applying them ( due to the patches being 'deltas' presumably )
So although it may only take an hour or so for each patch, to get 4 of them would take 4 hours ( or there abouts )

Here is a lil thing you can do to make your life easier. This requires a blank cd/zip disk/burning software.

-Install PlanetSide on your work pc.
-Download the patches using the T-1 connection.
-Open C:/Program Files/Sony/PlanetSide
-Copy the Patch1,Maps,pack,wiredred and files containing the word "patch" and any other files that can fit on this cd.

After this.. you can uninstall ofcourse from your work pc.

Install PlanetSide at home now, then use the disk from work and manually drag them into your PlanetSide directory, allow windows to overwrite files with the same name/size.

Now start PlanetSide, You will download a few launcher files, then after entering your user info, It will do a scan on your system, locating the files you are missing. You will not have to download the infamous first patch as it's in the folder "pack".

You may dowload some small files and various others, but your dowload time should be greatly decreased.

I have 100mbps connection at home, but the other night I had to reformat my pc, and I did'nt want to spend another hour downloading a patch, so I tried this out, it reduced my download time to about 10 mins on my connection.

GOOD LUCK! and hope it helps.

yes kilo BITS not kiloBYTES..divide that by 8 and you get what is quoted as a download speed ( ie kBytes )
56kb => 7kB max

You must be overseas, our phonebill is one flat charge so downloading for 12 hours means nothing other than nobody can call you for those 12 hours.

people always confuse kb/s with kB/s.
