View Full Version : Brilliant new VS strategy from Emerald!

Today I noticed a new strategy in practice by the Vanu sovereignty on Oshur and Amerish that allows them to sweep across entire continents. I have to admit that it was helped along by the combined efforts of the recent patch that enable respawn defenders and disabled the ability to hack the base next to your sanc. Are you ready for this? It's called "Let them win" and it goes a little something like this.

After it becomes apparent that your enemy is either too numerous or too well organized to defeat using the resources you have available, leave. You can either just leave the continent or leave Planetside entirely. Go to Searhus or the Driving Range, they're always nice places. By the time you get back, the enemy will have won, and, having soaked up some nice exp from defenders that didn't know any better, they will leave as well. This is your chance.

At this point it is possible to reclaim your dignity and your territory. Go to Amerish/Oshur/Esamir and start capturing the bases. There will be no enemies there, of course, since their momentum is gone and defending those bases is of questionable value. So you will get nothing for the captures except for a warm fuzzy feeling, but anyway, those bases can't stay Terran, can they? More than likely you will encounter 0 resistance until you get to the very last bases on the continent, at which point your enemies will realize that there are captures to be made. For these captures you and the rest of the vanu horde that is travelling with you will gain a small amount of experience, perhaps as much as a thousand points, for crushing the meagre forces assembling to drive you back.

Okay, fun is over. They will, eventually, gain enough momentum such that you will have to employ the let them win strategy again. The best thing about this strategy is that it doesn't require your presence, and allows you to do small, life-affirming tasks in the interim, like eating.

Now, soldiers, go forth and let them conquer!

I was giving requests to simply leave in continent chat earlier today on some continents because we had no chance of holding them. Trying to hold Cyssor with 5 squads when NC just showed up with 300 people at the sanc linked base? Heh. Right.

In cases where you're just sitting there giving the enemy 5k caps over and over as you try to prevent the inevitable steamroll, sometimes it's better to just go elsewhere and actually get something done.

Newsflash: this game doesn't favor the defenders.

Yea, if you're on a continent getting zerged without enough people defend, simple strategy is go to where your empire's zerging :D

Why give the enemy 5K a pop for getting your ass beat? I don't like it either and most of the time I'm all for recalling and letting them have it and hoping the rest of thier caps will have little to no resistance. But, try to keep them busy long enough for a couple of squads to break away and cap bases on the other side of the continent while everyone is in the big battle. While they are having a great time slowly pushing you back they are also losing bases on the other side. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the all-mighty xp for the good of the empire.

Yeah, but we got a 5k for capping it, a 5k for recapping it after it went neutral, and 3k for a resecure. That base treated our XP bars well, evenm if the snipers didn't treat you well :p

It is very unfortunate that us Vanu have to fight constantly out numbered... more power to us for spanking those 'hoes all over the place!!

Here is the problem, it seems like there is 3 different types of continents in this game:
1.) A continent where your empire is zerging, all the other empires go home, and you get no XP
2.) A continent where a different empire is zerging, all the friendlys have gone home, you can't capture anything, No XP
3.) A empty continent, No emenys, No freindlys, No XP

Either way, I seems lately that I spend my time either getting zerged of a continent or zerging a enemy free continent. Honestly, If I where a CR5 person, I would challenge another CR5 person on one of the other empires to take seaharus and then watch the cool fighting and XP roll in (For the victor, of course :))
