I was in a forest battle, those are so fun..... anyways this one guy was an avid MCG user and he whooped everyones ass. He had agile armor and surge. If you tried to move away, you couldn't he was too fast. He stayed in your face the whole time and never let off the trigger. It was awesome. Also he would sneak up to snipers and put the MCG right next to them, point blank and fire away. Much like an infil would do with an amp :P.

MCG rules, it is the best HA weapon in my opinion, it requires more skill to use, but in skilled hands it is great. You just have to realize that it works just like a shotgun, except it doesnt do its damage in large chunks, like the lasher or jackhammer. So you just get on someone and unload. But the MCG can be fired in bursts fairly effectivly at medium ranges, which the jackhammer certainly cannot do.

The reason people whine about it is that it takes the smallest amount of skill to use. It isnt a point-click-dead weapon like jackhammer or a spray-then-pray (Ok, it does take skill at range) weapon like the cycler. Or my favorite, the lockon-fire-fire-fire--Vick-is-dead-now Striker.

Heh, well, tbh, it's only the most skilled cos it's a pile of wank, the only effective ways of getting kills is using it like the amp (getting to no range, and holding the trigger), or burst firing with crouch (crouch, fire until the CoF gets massive [like 5 shots or something :p], strafe a bit, repeat), but like, it just is insanely inaccurate, at medium to short range I was crouching, and taking 1 shot at a time, about 1 in 7 hit, it's really not good enough to be called a Heavy weapon (jackhammer probably would have scored a hell of a lot of damage at that range).

Just 'cause you get owned by barnies bf ;| but yeah MCG is quite appauling , if you like making lots of bullet decals round the target your trying to hit then its well worth the certs

I'm not saying jackhammer sucks or anything. I have used it lots and I just think it's a waste of 4 points... Same with all heavy weapons imo, cept maybe lasher I haven't had much experience with it so I have no right to say anything. An easy way to fix this Heavy weapon crap is to make them better and stop nerfing. Make the MCG cof about 1/2-2/3 its maximum size on full expansion, and just leave the JH like it is :P, then speed up the lasher bullets just a little bit. But mainly I just wanted to point out that maybe if you cliffords just would do something like this guy you would have more fun? Maybe you are content with cycler, thats cool. I was just trying to make it more fun for you all.

The lasher is a pile of ass.

I've had it for 10 BRs now, and I try as hard as I can to like it. I try so hard not to unlearn it, to give it "just one more chance".

The prob with the lasher is simply the speed of the projectiles. That and watching persons calmly sidestep the incoming projectiles from anything over 10m away.

You DONT sidestep a Jackhammer, and at close quarters, I'll take an MCG everytime I can find one.

I feel the only time the Lasher is worth a damn is when there are 3 or more VS with them engaged on the same target radius.

Yeah the Lasher sux.

Let's b*tch about the jackhammer until the MCG is the new "over-powered" heavy assault weapon. Then we can b*tch about the MCG until they nerf that too. And before you know it... Lasher 0wnz all.

And in that case, it FREAKIN' OWNS -- point 3-4 lashers at a tower door, and no one is getting out. But yeah, it seems to pretty much suck aside from that situation and under 10 meter range...

How to own with the MCG: Kill one NC with it, loot his jackhammer, repeat as desired.

Better yet Yogi, kill him with a cycler before he gets within jackhumping range :)

Yeah, that's the idea, go out in reinforced with an open rifle slot for quick looting ;)

chaingun is the biggest pos cycler is better in everyone range and area. If you haven't figure it out your dumb. also there can be no real skill with the weapon, the cof is to big. lasher skill weapon? yes good cof but takes skill to kill with, due to the speed of the orbs aka leading targets. There is no skill with noodle burrells

I'm sorry, but you obviously haven't spent much time with the heavies. The Jackhammer is more effective than the MCG at medium range, by far. Both are useless at long range. The Jackhammer is better at close range (unless you get real lucky and get the jump on somebody with their back turned with the MCG). The MCG is barely more effective by using burst fire, the CoF still expands so rapidly that you have to burst quickly and let the CoF die down for entirely too long for it to be effective in any fight over 5 seconds.
The reason people whine about it is because our empire medium arm (the Cycler) is better at everything other than point blank range. The Cycler is a worthy arm at long range, a fantastic arm at medium range and isn't bad up close. Now keep in mind that you have to have the medium cert to even qualify for the heavy cert, and you tell me why the MCG becomes worth 4 cert points? I have the cert just to test out different theories and because I'm hoping beyond hope that I'll find some use for that piece of crap, but it hasn't happened so far. I suggest you get the cert and walk around with the gun for a while before making very wrong generalizations about it.
Additionally, the Cycler isn't a spray then pray arm. At medium range (where it's at it's best) you have to use skill to land enough shots to take somebody down in a single magazine. It's shots don't pack much of a punch, and assuming you're fighting an NC you also have to run backwards the entire fight (to try and keep out of Jackhammer range).
Your Striker talk is obvious bitterness and not really worth a response.
Seriously, start a TR character, get the cert and then come back. I'm interested to see how long it took you to loot a Jackhammer from a backpack and drop that MCG like the hot potato it is.
The sad thing is I'm still using it, hoping...

MCG does seem to be a joke. I see alot of people use them, but most times i kill them close range and only take about 20 dmg if that much. What do i kill them with? The Lasher.

The lasher is a great weapon. What many of you dont understand is that even when they side step your orbs, you still hit them with the lashing. Its not a pulsar, you cant use it like a rifle or even a shotgun. Its main use is to keep the enemy pinned down at range, and to deal out lots of splash damage in close quarters, and the best part is, the splash damage doesnt hit friendly troops.

Now pair the gun up with reinforced and a lancer, and youve got a winning combination.
