View Full Version : Strategic idea?

I had an idea last night, and I wanted to know:
a) would it work
b) would it make sense to do so
Ok, the brief scenario, last night on Amerish we Vanu were getting steamrolled base to base by a rather effective and large TR zerg. We would defend a base for a few minutes, then lose it to the hack. The TR would move on to the next and repeat.
Now the defending Vanu had no chance to really stop the TR. We were badly outnumbered. So here comes my strategy:
Would it make sense in this scenario to go behind the lines to a base already taken by the TR and blow up the generator? the base would need to be in the lattice to the newer taken bases. If this base was their sole lattice link to the newer bases they were taking, would it stop their advance since the changes to hacking in the latest patch? IE, when the base goes neutral, would the lattice be broken? Or do we need to hack it back (which we can't do because of the lattice)?
Does this even work or do they not lose the lattice from the neutral base? Am I just spending too much time in the sun? :)

this would be an good idea, but why dont you just destroy the generator at the base you about to leave, sabatoge

That would work, but my thinking was that the incoming zerg already has engineers with them anyway, but doing it behind them would confuse them and at least force some of them backwards.
I guess I am really just talking about the scortched earth strategy which has been used in real combat for years :)

Blowing the gen does not break the lattice, you have to hack for that. IF a hack is initiated on a base behind the front line they cannot intiate another hack down the lattice.

What I'd love to see is when the opposing Empire is zerging to have all squads break off from the current frontline and start draining all the enemy bases on the continent. Just take 1-2 squads to each base and make the run all over hell to keep up.

i sort of discovered this last night... to run down a facilities power VERY quickly, continually blow the spawn tubes... about every two minutes the place attempts to repair them, so in a way rinse and repeat.
im thinking ur strategy in a last ressort situation could use this... go really far back into enemy lines where no one will be around the base... destroy everything u can and run the power down. (i alone shootin the tubes like i mentioned apove ran the power out in about 20 minutes) have an advanced hacker and try to get the hack when it goes neutral. with any luck ull break latice and buy time for ur guys up at the front.

i say if ur getting zerged for base after, the enmemy caps a few bases start destryoing everything in the base ur in once u know u cant keep the base there attacking.

Strategically speaking, scorched earth is a valid tactic.
In PS, it's a good way to load up on grief. If you can spread it around, then go for it... but I don't think that'll work for someone solo.

Well, I'm still a little confused and maybe I wasn't 100% clear.
Blowing up the gen on a base we are about to lose, we all know about that. Imagine this:
Three bases connected by one lattice line to each other:
A--B--C
All bases start out owned by Vanu. TR comes in and takes A, then B. Now at this point, A and B belong to the TR and are probably empty since the TR are obviously going to take C next. So if I go to base A and blow up the generators, does it break the lattice so that base C cannot be hacked when it goes neutral? Now I can't hack base A because the Vanu have no lattice connection to it.

No, as I said blowing the gens does not break the lattice. If you start a hack on B prior to them starting a hack on C, then they cannot use the lattice.
Personaly I think it should be impossible to complete a hack while the lattice link is under hack, but for some reason that is not the way it works. Having your home base under hack just stops you from starting new hacks.
