I didn't have time this morning to get into a squad so I just headed out alone. I found that if you aren't in a squad you get a whole heck of alot of XP for killing stuff. IS there some sort of XP splitting going on in squads? Cause if so, I think it may be solo for some of my characters. :D

Hello,
Here's the skinny as I have understood it:
The game awards experience based on 5 second time intervals starting 10 minutes before the hack and continuing until the end of the 15 minute hack time. For each 5 second slice of time, the game counts up the enemy in the SOI. Depending on how many are there, each squad member also in the SOI gets awarded a certain amount of experience. Then at the end of the hack time and when the base is captured, the game totals up the experience for the entire squad and then divides it by the total number of squad members present.
The problem you are experiencing is probably cause by a problem I constantly have to deal with in inexperienced squads. People simply fail to stick together in the SOI. If you have 2 people at each base, one dweeb in the sanctuary retraining, and vehicles moving in and out of the SOI during the total 25 minutes of 5 second time slices, you are going to get shafted for experience. This means either get in squads that understand the experience system, or you are DEFINITELY better off soloing. Here is my advice for people regarding experience:
1. If the squad does not stick together in the SOI, leave it for a better squad or go solo.
2. Stay in the SOI the entire 25 minute time frame for the highest possible chance of getting the max award of 5k experience.
.... And here is the kicker and source of much angst online right now when I suggest it to peeps....
3. If there are no longer any enemy in a hacked SOI, EVERYONE should move on to the next battle.
What does number three mean, and why does it cause arguments? Well, it is because people are still under the impression that they need to leave someone behind for the squad to get experience. This is a major source of conflict online because people simply do not understand the changes recently. Everyone should go together, and no enemy in the SOI means no experience added to the awarded experience for each 5 second time slice.
I hope this helps, and please correct me if I'm wrong folks!
PS Reading Comprehension 101! Sorry, I misunderstood your post, and the simple answer is yes. When you get a kill, the experience is split between squad members on the same continent as I understand. The capture experience is a worthy topic to have covered also though.
Thanks,

Ummmmm, I meant for kill XP, not base XP. Base XP has remained more or less the same. I have a good outfit and we follow all those rules. :D

Sorry,
I corrected my post with a PS. You probably missed it.

Sweet! My infiltrator will still be in a squad cause he doesn't get many kills, unless you count terms. But from now on, I think the rest of them will be going solo, unless my outfit has something going down.

So they changed it? It used to be that exp was not split between squadmembers. Wow if its split that just screws the whole notion of team based play. I thought thats what this game was about?

Hello,
Yep, and remember the kill experience gained is also directly affected by the total time that person killed was alive. Killing a sniper for example often yields a ton of exp, and I've gotten over 250 for one kill that way when solo. The max you killed must have been alive for a looooooong time! This helps since spawn tube camping doesn't give jack experience. It still racks up your total kills, but it isn't an effective way to gain experience though.
8-)
PS A perfect example of this is also experience from an ANT. If you are alone it is 20 experience per tick. With a full squad I think it gets as low as 4 experience per tick. Kills work the same way from what I have experienced.

Yeah, I have 2 characters that I play usually. I have my infantry grunt who I always squad up, and I have my infil who I always go solo with. My infil usually just finds battles near bases it appears we are heading for, sticks inside the SOI near the fringes of the battlefield and takes out any silly infantry who get separated from their buddies and soaks up better xp for each kill. The main reason I solo with the infil is the horrible luck I've had finding squads that have any idea how to use an infil properly. I'm much happier causing havoc on the battlefield in small portions. Lots of people won't know you did anything, but jacking and deconstructing an AMS or methodically taking out multiple snipers on a hill is incredibly valuable for your army.
The splitting of xp for squads is a nice idea, but it seems that you seldom end up getting enough kills from the squad in total to make up for what you would have gotten solo (and I say that as a pretty average player). It's worth it as infantry to have access to the medic/engineer and I think it's more fun than trying to solo that way (there's more direction to your play).

bottom line:
You get a lot of kills, play solo if you're after XP
You're more of a support role and are after XP? play in squads.
I have around 3500 kills and most of my time has been spent in squads. If I had gone solo the entire time, I would have had literally ten times more XP than I do now. But playing solo gets old quick, because your only real option playing solo is to follow the zerg around.
But yes you're right, if you're in a squad, the XP from the kill is taken and split equally between squad members while solo players get the whole 100% of the XP of a kill.
I think they need to tweak that system. Something more along the lines of the person who gets the kill gets 100 XP while the others in the squad get 10. Sort of a squad bonus system. It would give better reason to participate in squads. As right now the only benefit to squads is for commanders making CEPs.

You get more points per kill going solo, but you get more kills as with a *good* squad (I get about 40pts every 5 seconds in a good battle). So, it evens out in the long run.
EDIt; See my levels in my sig? Thats just in 1 weeks worth of play =X
