View Full Version : What do you think about the liberator status?

Navaron

I'm not sure what to think.

On one hand, it sure seems like a yank and run.

"Look, don't cancel, resubscribe, the game's only been out a month, and we're giving you two brand new vehicles! Yep, here's the skygaurd, keep paying, any day now the lib will be out, any day, any day, definately this week, wait it's been 10 days since the end of the 14 days we said it would come out? O, well that's cause it's no where near release, but we're testing it, and will get it out soon."

WTF? Either 3 weeks ago they knew it was going to be ready or not. I have a hard time believing that they honestly believed that a month ago, it would be coming out shortly. It feels like they wanted to prevent the exodus of players, so they just said yeah, here it comes, when they knew it wasn't ready.

OOOOOR,

As I've been told, I'm a paranoid ass. Either way, I know the devs are working hard and have plenty of shit to do.

Part of the reason I think they aren't "straight" with the populace is all the bitching that goes on over there. If it weren't for all of that, I bet they'd say, yeah were working on A, B, C, and starting D. The next week, we're having a tough time with A, but B and C are going great! It's too bad the community is so full of fucktards.

What do you think about all of it?

Would you rather have them release a buggy as hell patch? Thats what happens when they listen to all the impatient people.

I'd be happy if they got the test server going and held off on the liberator so it could get a large scale test. And as I said in another thread, gamers are impatient.

Edit: and SOE knows as well as we do that the most vocal people are the whiners and people who dont even like the game

Yeah, what's the story on the test server?

What would make me happy would have been another month of beta, but I'm difficult to please.

I don't mind the wait, so long as the Liberator doesn't suffer from the rush job the Skyguard suffers from...

yeah, the skyguard looks like a piece of ass. but i was browsing the official forums this morning and spork said that he is Very sure it will be out this week. but apparently he has nothing to do with anything Planetside except read forums and tell the devs what ppl are bitching about, so i dont' really trust his word. but he says this week. and i hope it's true, that's going to be my next cert

I personally think the Skyguard ish sechshey, but that's just me.

What I've heard is that the dev team is intentionally taking their sweet time with the Liberator to make sure it's balanced. More power to them, I say. Something like that has a HUGE chance of being broken either way (bombs owning all and sundry or the plane being Striker fodder) so if they want some time to hash it out I'm willing to shell out the dough.

My issue isn't the release of a buggy patch... my issue, as Nav said, is that this seems like a yank-and-run tactic. I want them to fully test it, but it seems like they JUST started testing it, which dosen't coincide with Spork's "It's this week, I'm serious." attitude.

I just want them to come straight with us about all the upcomming features and their releases. The most important to me are the facility links and the medic additions, but it dosen't really seem realistic to think we'll see them until mid-Spetember, or early October. I just don't want all this stuff to be misrepresented anymore.

I dont g a shit about the new vehicles, I could wait. what I ant is the rearm/repair pads for air/ground vehicles. I mean Reaver run out of rockets in less then 5 minutes, we need to stock ourselves! Tho.....if its a hacked base......will you be able to hack the rearm/medi pads? If so, what do ya point the rek at?

Tho i also want the Lib, i'm brobly either gona loose my deliv/skygaurd (i switch between them everyday whichever one is really calling for it) certs or my reaver for it....but then i would have an extra cert just layin around......man i need br 10......screw cm2......:(

and the skygaurd is awsom, the guns look kinda dopy (shouldv had 1 flak cannon on each side along with the anti infantry guns on each side) and its the only vehicl i flipped 3 times, still, the skygaurd is awsom!

whatever SOE is going to do to change the game they ought to do it soon. the Liberator will be a fun toy but it will not be the saving grace of Planetside.

I agree with Navaron in a way. Although I know that it takes a while to do some good testing on new vehicles. I wish they would just keep their mouths shut on the subject. They should give us news on the new vehicle, then shut up till they are absolutely sure that it will come out in a couple days. Theres no point in getting our hopes up,

"We've been working on this really hard for the past two weeks now and it should be ready real soon."

then knocking them to the ground with a another two week wait and no new vehicle.

What's wrong with the skyguard?

As for the test server, no clue what is up with it. Seems like it should be out by now

The only thing that stick out about the Skyguard is its rushed texture job.

I jsut noticed that, unlike all of TR's vehicles, its the only one actually with a light white color. hmmm, well atleast it'll confuses the vanu and nc a lil bit......

I think they improved the textures a lil bit and they might some more once they release the liberator and have a "lil" bit more time.. I say "lil" cuz they are always work'n hard on make'n it better some way or somehow

I'd be mroe happy if they fixed the lockups, what good is the Liberator if when I fly it I lock up, log back in after the reboot and its crashed and I'm dead...sheesh

My game locks up so much its making me not want to play but I really want to, the lockups make it annoying as hell

i think forkfire needs to stop reading the forumz and start doing some sort of work on the game, if hes qualified at all to do so.

oh and personally i cant wait for the lib to come out. Reaver pilots like myself are going to chew that huge piece of meat up. Can u say big, 3 person, clunker? my killz will increase dramatically :D reaver food!

When Dave was on AGN the 22nd, didnt he say the model and animations were completely done and they were testing it? I know it's a bomber and it requires a lot of testing, but yikes!

As for stringing us along to get more money... Well, doesn't bother me since I'm re-subscribing anyways. :)

Postscript: Slightly off-topic, but what happened to the test server? They could put it up there and test it out... I haven't heard a peep since they were unable to get it up due to hardware issues. :o

Any reaver pilot worth their sauce can take down a skyguard. They rack up kills against crappy reaver/mosq pilots, but is that really what you're worried about?

The flak cannon has a low turning radius and a subpar tilt angle. If you want AA for 3 certs, get a tank. I consider each empire's heavy tank to be considerably better AA than the skyguard simply because the skyguard is so damn fragile.

.. funny, I dnt think my SG has ever even taken a hit from a reaver when i was driving it. Even when they try thier best to chase it.

Where as my prowler will get chewed up in a second by a reaver, u can't run away in that thing.

Oh well.. just 2 diffrent perspectives :)

Though I do know that the PS teem is hard at work, I do wish that they would give us real times for things. If something wont be ready for another month and a half, tell us.

Already most servers are very low population, I have yet to see a gold dot in at least 2 weeks. Markov's population peaks around 3 dots now (making it very hard to find good battles).
I feel that if this game does not get some real fixes in both crashes and gameplay rather soon, it will be unable to survive.

In AC they had update day every second tuesday of the month. It was great because it was stability! Everybody knew when it was coming. A steady, once-a-month update schedule for PS would be excellent.

Bingo. I gotta say, PS is starting to draw a weary eye from me.

Of course, AC also has the rule of "thou shalt not play on patch day" since the usually have to sacrifice some QA time to meet that schedule. I'd rather take bug-free-ness over consistency thank you.

that monthly or fortnightly thing is good but... this far from release [aka a short time] its too difficult to place a regular schedule. once they iron out most of the problems, and all they are adding is new content, thats when they can make a decent schedule.

I suspect now that the test server is up we will see more fixes faster, since they can actually be tested.

Everyone used to get pissed at Q&A for messing up patches.

But honestly.. teh only way to test this game is to have a QA staff of 5000 people. That just isnt cost effective. This test server lets us see new stuff sooner and get more stable patches. I am excited about it :D
