View Full Version : How fast do the missiles go?

The question I have is, how fast do the various anti-vehicle projectiles go? At what speed are you untouchable by tailing AA or AV fire?
Pointless trivia: The missiles in tribes 2 went, if memory serves, 267 KPH. This meant that of the 6 vehicles, the 3 fastest (one ground, two air) could outrun them. Only two things went, for sure, faster than 267 - the chaingun bullets, and the sniper laser. I think the spinfusor went something like 220. Not sure abou that, tho.

The missiles (or at least, the Striker missiles) are a tiny bit faster than an afterburning Reaver.

I don't care how fast (specifically) they are as long I kill what I'm aiming at.

An afterburning Reaver caps at around 260-265 kph. This means only the Mosquito can truly outrun the missiles. When dealing with the striker your objective isnt to outrun the missiles, its to break a line of sight or go so fast the Striker user can't keep his reticule on your craft... I find this easy to do with such things as Harassers, max speed 71kph. This is due to flora and hills in the area. Just don't get caught driving in the middle of Esamir. ;)

Yeah, only Mosquitos can actually outrun the missiles with Afterburn. However, Reavers are fast enough that if they have a bit of distance between the missile and themselves, and are able to hit the Afterburn (in the right direction) fast enough, they will get outside the maximum lockon range. That's why it's important to fire the missiles and then attain a lock when the third missile is about to exit the barrel.

what's the top speed of an afterburning galaxy? whatever that number is, the VS CrapFire AA MAX shot is slower.
yes, it really does suck that much.

Ah, good... So it's not outrunning the missiles, it's breaking the lock (Which was freaking IMPOSSIBLE in Tribes 2 unless you flew behind a building - the missiles could avoid any natural terrain and trees were rare and small). But that's for striker missiles, how fast do the Phoenix missiles go? Faster? Slower? I've heard slower.

Actually I think the Phoenix missiles are roughly around the same speed... unfortunately this serves as a hinderance to most phoenix users.

I thought it was more like 255. Missiles in T2 are easy to outrun in a scout.

Yeah, they are. But the top regular speed on a Shrike was something like 310 hitting 375 or so if you go into a dive with afterburners... that's always fun. The missile speed is somwhere in the mid 200s though.

further along in this pointless trivia vein we seem to be following, it's possible to get the Wildcat hoverbike in T2 to go over 500kph. a cookie to the first person that replies with the method.:)
