PSU Funding

It's that time again, recently I lost my job due to state budget cuts. I am looking of course, but the job market is a bit busted up right now. Anyway, I will not be able to fully cover PSU's costs out of my own pocket for the next month or two, until I find a job. Currently PSU runs a little over $500/mo for all our servers and space. I have several options, first we can start charging for outfit hosting, start charging for forums (chances of that are slim), cut services (IRC, AGN etc), or raise funds. The last PSU fundraiser was a huge success, we raised over $1000 to update all our hardware and purchase new servers. Last month I had to purchase our 3 servers outright, which cost me a bit of money in itself. Also I have been researching advertising for the last month or two, and have come to the conclusion that there is really no money in it. Not only that, everywhere I had applied to had already met their quota's for gaming sites. So that is not an option anymore. If I am able to raise a healthy chunk of money we will have no problems. My condolences Hamma. :( This is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, you have more time for PSU. On the other, you no longer have money for PSU. What a bind. :(

Hamma you know what, these PS sites are dying daily it seems. And finally, I seriously think it's time for SOE to kick in money.

Think about it, FAN sites are FREE promotion for the game. Anyone that types in *PLANETSIDE* on a google search is going to get this website too, and they will most likely come here as well.

So, companies SHOULD help out when situations like this arive. SOE is making a slaughtering, you're here and upkeeping this site because you love the game.

I'm pretty sure advertising isn't even an option at this point. On top of that, Sony will most likely never support this site monetarily. I really doubt we want to be subsidized by Sony anyway. One of the joys of PSU is the freedom to criticize without fear of reprecussions.

This is going to fall to the community. That is the only way. Last time a few members gave hundreds of dollars. We need everyone to chip in, even if it's just 5 or 10 bucks. If you can afford it, spend 25 or 50.

It's down to the wire, and it's up to each and everyone of us.

I can afford it fine once I find a job, but unemployment doesent give me enough to cover everything. :\

edit: as someone said, there is no money in fansites. This is why you see so few fansites around nowaday, they have all gone the way of the buffalo because they cost money to run, and usually people dont want to help out. I believe that PSU has a unique group of folks that are willing to help.. hell we raised 1000$ once.
