I have always been a fan of the cinema and have recently fell in love with watching some of my most loved films on DVD. Now that my laptop has the ability to play Dvds i decided that i should get some more and so i have begun to collect a few of my favorite movies on DVD... and i was wondering what you guys thought would be included in a category of "must own dvds"

I have the following dvds:
Sleepers
Frailty
Brokedown Palace
John Q
Darkness Falls
A Beautiful Mind
Minority Report
LotR
Remember the Titans
Spiderman
What Dreams May Come
The Emperor's Club (haven't watched it yet)
Donnie Darko
The Pianist
One Hour Photo
Signs
The Others
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Road to Perdition
Matrix
Artificial Intelligence
13 Conversations about one thing
Red Dragon
The Cell
Spirited Away..

Ok, and more...

of those, i think everyone should have...
The Pianist
John Q
Awakenings (because it is such a great movie!)
LotR ( any of the dvd sets)
and maybe Frailty... just because of the creep factor it has.

Ok, so what is your list?
Thanks!

If you like any form of anime, the Cowboy Bebop series is a must (both the TV show and the recently released movie).

Another personal fave is Apocalypse Now (Redux), a great Vietman action chiller with very provacative dialouge.

The older i get, the harder it is for me to watch movies. I have 10 dvd's a. because they cost a lot b. because once ive seen it once I really dont want to see it again and c. even if i do want to see it, while im watching it i think "i could be playing planetside right now"

Just movies seem to be getting more and more the same..... I mean i know whats gonna happen next.

Im not anti-movie, everyone loves a great movie.
oh and all this doesnt apply to anime :D (dont ask me why i dont know)

Not all war movies are good. Tears of the sun if you can classify it as a war movie :-/ completly sucked.

BTW darkness falls is one of the worst movies on the face of the planet.

Perhaps you mean Spirited Away?

Pretty much all of Hayao Miyazaki's stuff rocks.

My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service

Even his Lupin III movie (Castle of Cagliostro) is good.

I'm looking forward to Howl's Moving Castle.

Lots of info at

BTW darkness falls is one of the worst movies on the face of the planet. Windtalkers. Worst war movie ever. Besides some John Wayne WWII one I saw in history class. They came down in a glider, crashed through several dozen pine trees (pine trees near French coastline, plus there's no way the glider would survive that), land not twenty yards from a german barracks, and then start sneaking over the razor wire, no one notices until they are at the base of a guard tower.
