Is there blood in planetside? Can you blow people up into lil' bits? I think all action games need a little BLOOD and GORE  Just curious

hehe, there is no blood or body parts flying everywhere. But you will know when your hitting someone :D

Yeah from what I'v seen they flash when you hit them...

With the number of people that could potencially be in a fire fight, no flying body parts = better frame rates.

Allso everyone is wearing pretty heavy armor so if blood flew everywhere it wouldn't make very much sense.

Blood flying everywhere doesn't make sense in most games. Unless you're hit in an artery, the blood will flow, sure, but it's not going to spray everywhere.
Anyway, no gore in PS because:
1) Has to have as low a rating as possible to make anal parents OK with little Billy playing it. These games need as big a player base as they can, so every little bit helps.
2) Unnecessary use of system resources. This is especially important in PS where larger scale combat will occur.
3) Overall unecessary. Most people don't buy a game specifically because of the gore. If the game sucks, gore won't save it, and if a game is good, it didn't become good by having gore.

Still, you guys gotta admit. Blowing some random guy's arm off is kinda fun  It's one of the reasons i liked using Dwarves in a game called Myth: The Fallen Lords and its sequels. They used grenades and when they were finished there were body parts everywhere (plus their commentary was always funny).

Yep, it's definitely icing on the cake, but only the most superficial gamer would have gore make or break a game for him/her (unless the gore was totally ridiculous to the point where it ruined the game). It'd be nice to have, but I don't think anyone is going to really miss it, given the baggage that'd go along with it.

I agree with you on that one. I don't think it really belongs in this game and it won't be necessary for it to be fun. I still have fun blowing things up and seeing the pieces fly everywhere once in a while though. Kinda sick and sadistic I know, but oh well. If i were the only one that was amused by things like that we wouldn't have the movies and games we have today. :D

Gore == herds of buffalo. Nice to have, but irrelevant to the ultimate goal.

Nah, nothing sick and sadistic about it. It's normal. I'd be worried if you thought that it was wrong and horrible and against Jesus or something.

This game needs lots of blood, lots of flying body parts and jetpacks! :rawr:

Maybe you're here to convince us heathens that violence isn't right, with the help of your SHOTGUN OF JUSTICE.

Uncontrolled jet-assisted jumps would be fun, with the proper restrictions applied.

Ohhhh, Shotgun of Justice. I like the sound of that. I think i'm going to start an Outfit called Shotgun of Justice. Don't worry Warborn, i'll give credit to you for the name :D

Have any of you ever played SOF2? I know its a little wrong, but shooting an assault rifle at an enemy's face on high gore is entertaining. Just click the attack button, and watch the pieces of his face and blood FLY!!! Its also nice to slash cuts all over their body, and make it look like they were put through a really big blender. But I can understand having no gore for lessening lag and stuff. I will still buy PS if it is really good, which I think it will be.:D

Have you ever heard of mortal kombat :p They made money because people like seeing blood.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Aliiance i s an incredible game, and I'm not just saying that because of the gore that is in it.

So the people will flash when shot? I hope the females in the game flash quite frequently.
Well if you played Deadly alliance and you go to the MK History movie you will see that the developers realized the game wouldn't be very succesful if it wasn't for the Blood and Gore

Take the Streetfighter, X-Men, Marvel vs Capcom, and Virtual Fighter series, thoes are bad ass games as well and they don't have blood or gore and look how they did.
I wasn't saying they didn't do good. Mortal kombat is a great game despite the gore, all im saying is the gore DID help some.
Oh and xmen fighting series?
:P~ :P~ :nono: :nono:

I know, I guess it really depends on the target fan base the games are geared to.

Frabakokdong - I've decided you are insane.
Parents: Frab is the reason for age restrictions on games. I don't know how old he is, but whatever his age is should be the M restriction.

SOF2 is far too gory of u ask me, the capacity to chop ppls limbs off with a few hacks of your knife is a little much.
on the otehr hand when i swoop down in my reaver and put a rocket into some poor footsoldier i wanna see chunks, not just him falling over. ;)
but i totally understand that chunky little bits would make the game lag horribly in giant battles, and ill take smooth gameplay over chunks neday.:D

You know what would make me really happy (I know it's not in game) ragdoll physics for deaths. That's so much fun.
Yeah that was about the only thing good about UT2k3, that and the new bombing run mode.

has anyone here played soldier of fortune my god is that game violent it single handely made me numb to violence bodies explode and everything !
I think this game needs some violence maybe really wounded people should leave small trails of blood and your armor should get torn up the more you get shot and when its weak then blood should be visible but not like soldier of fortune where bodies explode
Sputty

I think seeing the armor get torn up and have visible holes in it is a good idea but it would be hard to implement and would probably raise the requirements by quite a bit.

its already implemented for vehicles, so i dont see how hard it would be for ppl

I would like a realistic blood model, I really don't miss gibs though. It has always frustrated me that in Tribes you can't see people bleed when you rip em up with you chaingun (although I do agree that SoF2 takes it a little bit too far).
Ah well if this is gonna rock as much as I think it's gonna rock, I won't mind it at all. And it would be better for PS sales also of course, a lot of gamers being... well not in the mature rating category yet ;)

Well I don't know what the age for M is so I can't say anything about that.....
But the only reason I can think of where blood is needed apart from eye candy, is to show that you've hit them.
I remember a ut mod (original ut =p) which made a beep every time you got a hit. It was slightly annoying, but useful.
SoF2 doesn't take it too far. It's made to have gratuitous violence and gore, that's it's charm. I love SoF2, for the gore and it's great gameplay. Very realistic without being boring. :)
Anyway back to the topic, UT2k3 sucks....oops wait wrong topic. :D
I think gore wouldn't really have it's place in PS. Not that kind of game. Hopefully nades do make body parts fly as in Tribes but no need for blood and guts.

hehe, good 'ol SoF2, I play that most of anything recently. Really fun game, gotta love how blood contines to spray out of detached limbs for a few secs after they die
btw, I usually play as "Hamma" :p
Full game i assume?
Also you should try the Vietcong demo. :)

I've played SOF2, and I thought the blood in it was pretty cool. Overall however I'd say it wasn't fantastic as a FPS. They put a lot of work into the gore, and not much into anything else to truly make it stand out. It's an above average shooter at best. Not going to win any awards anytime soon, but it's fun enough.
Oh, and Mortal Kombat wasn't a success simply because it had blood. Not by any means. I recall one arcade game that actually had limbs being severed and the models getting cut up as the fight went on. But you don't see that game anymore. Why's that? MK had superior gameplay. And it's the superior gameplay that decides at the end of the day whether a game will truly be great.

That's right MK HAD superior gameplay. :P~

I never liked MK. I was always a fan of the Street Fighter games. The game play was far superior, as were the story lines. Gore really had nothing to do with it. Samauri Showdown was a good one too and you could cut people in half in that game.
What's so bad about UT 2003? :( Double Domination and Bombing Run are both really intense IMO.
As i said only good thing about UT2k3 is indeed bombing run and the "ragdoll" deaths. (never plaed full version so dunno about DD)
The thing is UT2k3 = Quakified version of UT. And for fans of the original that means lots of :( and :tear:.
But back to our topic now. :)

so, uh, what's bombing run?
FraBaktos
2003-01-01, 07:17 PM
Bombing run is where you run and get this little funky ball, and attempt to run into (7 points) or shoot the ball in (1 point) their goal. The goal is a wierd portal thingy. The opposing team has to kill the guy with the ball and take it to their enemy's goal. When you score, all guys spawn back at the base after a countdown.:)

I don't mind UT 2003 but it doesn't really feel like a new game. It's weapons rae just renamed and it ahs better graphics and one new mode of play. I think it could've used some more new types of play. It feels like playing UT

it would be cool if a light was running at a sniper with a bolt driver head on, and the sniper hits him in the head, causing the guy to do a 1.5xbackflip and land on his face. Like in meadal of honor frontline and allied assult. I think that is the game with the coolest death animations that have no blood(but they might as well have).
