View Full Version : What's your pick?
Ok so the thread in the game discussion got me thinking and since i'm a curious guy and i also dunno which to get here's my question.
What VPU (or GPU whatever) do you like best?

Well, there's no way I'm spending the cash on the new FX when it finally gets released. But then again, I'm a cheapo when it comes to graphics cards. :( I would think that the FX will kill the current radeon cards though. I mean, come on, it takes up an extra slot for exhaust. :)

I'm holding at a GeForce 3 for at least another year and a half
I'll probably be getting a 9700pro for PS and keep that for alap. :p

I am going to hold-out for the FX, unless the 9700 drops in price shortly after the FX's release.
I would buy the 9700 right now, but I have no money, and I am looking to build a new system in early-mid Feb, around the time the FX is supposed to be released. I don't mind paying $50-75 extra for the FX (although I assume you won't be able to take full advatage of all the card offers for 6 months or so), because I have skimped on quality graphics cards for so long and I am tired of poor frame rates. With my G2 MX on Wolf I can get into the teens on large servers. :(

Waiting for FX, will probably get one after the price drops a little depending on how much $$ I have at the time. ;) I've never been a fan of radeon, just never really been impressed by the cards. I love the nvidia driver team as well. ;)

I'd bet my left nipple that the 9700 pro drops in price when the FX comes out, and the same with the FX when the next radeon comes out....soon they'll have such an agp bottleneck or RAM bottle neck it wont matter

I'll be keeping my nvidia 64meg G3.

ill be keeping my nipples
Well assuming it does indeed come out in Feb i will obviously check it out but i would be surprised if the FX is just an extra 50-75$. GeForces are usually pretty expensive, specially at launch.

Well right now the 9700 is $400 minus the $50 rebate. If the FX is $500+ then there's a good chance I will take a pass :p
Well i assume at the FX release the 9700pro will be more around 300-350 so it's a good deal of difference.
Well like the RAM i need/want to buy i'll wait and see how much $$$ it will cost in Feb-March then decide. :D

Yah, that's my plan as well, although I am still leaning toward the FX. I wuv me some nvidia
I don't really have a preference, right now i have a crappy GeForce2MX400 (64meg) but i could go either way for my next 1.

I have the exact same card, and frankly I don't am not biased towards either card. As long as the price isn't far more than the 9700, I would just prefer the latest technology....of course, about 6 months after the FX is released, ATI will release a more powerful card.

I have the TI4600 but I'm waithing on the FX cards to come out to see the price if I want to upgrade or not. Since I'm having a killer custom highend PC built I wil have to see what the difference is in the option for the TI4600 or the new FX cards.

I run a 4600 128 blah blah blah and it's more than enough for the time being. I'll probably upgrade to the revision of the FX when it comes out.

I have a GF4 4200Ti 128mb DDR ... don't see why you'd need anymore than that, and it was like $130 at www.newegg.com I think?

Long live my underpowered GeForce 2 MX 200 32meg of SDR ram...
I plan on upgrading either a Radion 9700 or a GeForce 4.

Thanks for the heads-up. I went ahead a purchased a 4200 for my current PC, since I plan to continue using it for smaller games(like Wolf), surfing, and miscellaneous things. I figure it's a good investment, even if I don't plan on using it for Planetside.

The Radeon is going to drop even more with the release of ATI's new GPU's that are due out shortly after the release of the Geforce FX. I have the radeon 9700 and the ti4600 but if I want to upgrade later this year I want to see how well both do. That and the prices of each.

I've got a GeForce 2 mx 400 that I love. It's been a sturdy little workhorse for a couple of years now, and I wish I could wait till after the FX, but if I'm gonna play PS, I gotta do it shortly. Sides the 9700 pro looks better (imo) that the FX.
