Oh, you mean "Pierrot Le Fou." That was actually an interesting episode that didnt really add anything to the series overall. Nice overall theme and mood in relation to the genetic super-killer handling of the antagonist.

-shudder- i hated that episode. Thats the only episode i dont like to watch. im personally too cheap to get the box set, but i've downloaded all the episodes, and put them onto cds. I plan on buying the movie tho.

CB is awesome, but me and like 12 friends one day last summer got every EVA episode and locked ourselves in a room and watched the entire series straight thru...non stop.. It took hours but during the process I blacked out and saw God...I think...

Beyond that the final two episodes of EVA aren't even anime anymore,,,its like some crazy cosmoligcal shit, the writing is absurd and blows my mind everytime.

thats is funny, you took 13 hours out of your day and watched Eva not that i blame you its my favorite anime, but all in on go must have been one disturbing day, also the last two eps. are just space filler, Hideki Anno ran out of money and made that, that is why he made The End of Evangelion, which also has the best fight scene in almost any anime in it, cool movie, i like it when asuka cracks one of the mass production over her head like a shrimp and the blood drains down over the eva, hehe

ah good now i can get into one of my favorite topics, ancient mythos, yes marduk was an ancient babylonian god, but christianity tended to take gods from other cultures and turn them into demons, neon genisis evangelion has many religious themes and one of them is that the first 4 evas are based on the 4 barons of hell, kind of like seraphim in reverse, (hehe im not even religious) the first has only one huge eye, the second has a large horn on the center of its forhead and ferocious teeth, the third is the above decribed marduk the forth was a black beast with arms that could streach forever, any one that has seen eva will know this is acurate, also i didnt make this up, i copied it almost word for word off a geocities website that i do not care to google and find the url, u can check if you want but i doubt you will being an anime hater

shinken, ya my list is much longer, but those were just the 1st few on it ;)

Also, I rather enjoy Anime since they are real stories, that continue from esp to esp, insted of american flash hype stuff that has no real long term story line, more like random events that may or may not ever come up again. The majority of anime is created from good selling book series (Magna) and thus they actually have a real story line and have real debth to those stories such as good books do.
Dont get me wrong, some of the american flash hype stuff is good, but it just lacks the debth that so many anime stories can bring.

Just my (3/1415^9265)*35 cents anyway ;)

Well quite frankly, because I live in a world with over 6 billion people, and watching them is pretty damn boring.

You can't compare real comedy to anime comedy because anime isn't restricted to the laws of physics. You have to aquire a sense of humor for anime though, I'll admit that.

But I am quite satisfied when watching anime and laughing my ass off at a part where any non-anime fan would just stare stupidly. :p

Maybe us anime fans just dare to be different from boring old reality.

I got all the Steel Angel Kurumi DVDs. I'm suprised it's rated 17+ O_o There's only a little bit of upper body female nudity. The rest of the story is really cute..kinda weird that it has a higher age rating than hellsing :x

I've got all of the chobits episodes downloaded (I was going to buy the DVDs but I found myself downloading every episode and finished overnight so I figured...) I'm usually not one to just download anime that I severely like, which chobits qualifies as. I usually will download the first 2-3 episodes, watch them, and decide from there if it's worth buying, or just downloading.

I like DVDs though because they make for some great AMV source footage which I do as a bored on a nothing to do night. Though none of my work is spectacular, it's more aimed at something to do, rather than to be a perfect piece of art. I might upload some of my AMVs to my comcast space but I dunno how much space I have total (let alone the bandwidth that would be used) so if anyone wants to see em, just say so and I'll provide a link.

On a side note...lots of these vids aren't finished except for an angelic layer one that really isn't very good. Other than that I have an unfinished DNA^2 vid, and a love hina vid that I was going to submit to AX2003 but didn't finish in time :x

Personally, I think Trigun is overrated. I had a hard time getting into it, and everything about it just seemed bland and predictable. I understand the appeal, but it didn't appeal to me. Then again, I also had relatively negative feelings about Lain, and everyone else seems to love that, so maybe it's just me :P

I need to finish watching Kenshin. I saw a few episodes at the last LAN I was at, and it seemed fairly interesting.

RahXephon, Eva, and Bebop are probably the three series I enjoyed the most - Knocking on Heaven's Door was a bit weak, IMHO, but the end of that series itself is so beautiful that it made Bebop my favorite (for the moment, at least.)

RahXephon is probably one of the most beautifully animated anime series I have seen so far (course I'm only on episode 8) It just has a really unique feel to it as opposed to the usual way most anime is drawn. Take a look at the sig below for some examples to see what I mean... Only the most dedicated of otakus will see a big difference though :D

I have a feeling I'm gonna love this anime though, as I already "really really like it" at episode 8 :p

And yea lets just never let this thread die, it can act as an anime forum in itself! (and eventually break the record of "the fastest dying thread" over at the dragonwolves forums which exceed 100 pages I think...we used to have one with more than 300 pages if I remember correctly O_O)

And I agree on cowboy bebop's ending. The symbolism in the last few seconds of it was very well done, even though it was so simple. I'll keep it at that so it doesn't spoil anything for you people out there who haven't seen/finished it yet.

I think it's both the very proportionally drawn characters with the intricate shading. One of the things that makes it look very realistic, IMO, is that the light source in most scenes is easily identified.

It's one series where the art outshines the characters (don't kill me for saying it, but I don't really think there was enough flesh for most of it,) and it's still very fun to follow.

It's all just our opinions, of course. :)

Eva was complex but very theme-related - you didn't need to follow every detail to be entirely swept up in the introspection towards the end.

An anime forum would be quite nice.

exactly, that is an great point. I think the anime that focus on plot, not action comedy or anything else first are the ones i tend to like more.

comedy and action should both be used when necessary, but if theres a good story, theres usually a great anime.

Azumanga Daioh is a really funny series. There's really no story behind it all, it's geared only towards making you laugh. It's about some junior high/high school girls and their every day school life with a perverted principal, legally insane teachers, etc...

A great series for those of you looking to laugh.

It is very very funny, just wish I could find more (dont have much/dont know how much there is out there)

another one along that line is 'Child's Toy', very funny, but no real point to anything.

Onizuka, I find that there are some great animes out there that can do both (Eva, Chobits, etc), and that is the buity of some of the anime, the stories are soo good that they have all of the goodness in them at once.

Yeah, Kodomo no Omocha (translates to child's toy) is a pretty..odd series. The mother always has a really weird hairstyle with a chipmunk living in it. I don't have many of the episodes but I do have 4 of the however many there are mangas.

Try Akira, never seen ANYONE hate that, not even people who dont like anime. there are thos who wont try but this is considered good by steven spielburg, and quite a few american critics who dont watch anime.

BTW I just finished RahXephon, and never have I seen such a touching series. Especially episode 19 where something very ironic and sad happens.

On the lighter side though, I'm was watching some Azumanga Daioh, while I was downloading the last episode to RahXephon. It's been awhile since I have laughed so hard. Azumanga Daioh is the perfect example of what I meant earlier by requiring an anime humor to laugh at the stuff in that. It's up to par with Excel Saga in humor.

Aluminum Studios did just a little review on it but there's a pretty funny video clip you can download and see what I mean about the ludicrously warped sense of humor this series requires you to have to enjoy it :P

i hate dubs to, but better than sub 4 me, not cause i read slow(450 WPM which is 2.5 times as fast as the averege adult WPM of 200) but cause you have to take ur eyes off the action to know what ppl are saying, so until i learn japanese (which is going to be in about a year cause i start in the fall) stuck w/ dub, some companies do well w/ dubs, ADV is usually good, they did a great job w/ Evangelion and amanda winn lee is a very good translation director, just listen to the audio commentary on the death and rebirth, at the begining w/ 5-6 conversations going on in the background all at once, also their audio commentary are funny instead of just info about the movie and how hard this was or how boring this was, they crack jokes all the way through

edit, almost the same as kaikou, cept i need to learn syntax then i could speak basic japanese, probably almost as much as i know of spanish, and i took that as a class (no japanese:mad: :furious: :flamemad:

Yeah, Hajime Saitoh has to be the third coolest character in the series, I really like the Gatotsu (sp?) as well, and his Zero Stance which is his succession technique is great....

On the topic of RK...

Sicne little I have loved samurai swords and the whole story about samurai and Japan and all that, one of the reason Rk is my fav anime...aniway I am now trying to get my hands on a REAL Sakabatou...I know they exist except they are like...around 1k USD...I can't afford that....doh!

Anyways I also been thinking of takin up some sort of sword technique...problem is I am not aware of anything in my area....:(

Bah if they only go for 1k they are not real. If you want a REAL katana you have to buy them from collectors, I'm not talking about the cheap ass katanas that are forged like old sword I'm talking the ones made in layers.

Like the width of the blade. The thickness. And how sharp it is... cause if I remember your new to swords in general (dunno if your gona fight with them) and you dont wanna start with a sharp katana... Dull to lightly sharp (enough to cut some things but not your skin unless you are forcing it)

i didnt know that they made sakabatous, but 1000 bux is cheap compared to a real shinken katana from a master forge, the old ones used by real samurai can go for between 1 and 50 million :eek: USD, they are pretty much only in museums

edit: bogubag.com sells tamashi giri ready swords, also iaitou, the dull ones for iaido or battou-jutsu so you dont cut off ur thumb if you screw up the draw, but you can still give urself a deap cut or impale ur hand if u try to do it to fast for ur 5[<177 level

Japanese is confusing because words that sound so similar can mean completely different things, like kawaii and kowai (meaning the exact opposite of each other, cute and scary)

Also the whole slur thing that comes naturally with any language can be confusing (like how we say I dunno instead of I don't know) Sometimes you'll hear them say something like kawaii ja ne which kinda means "cute isn't it" when they really said kawaii ja nai which means "not cute" yet the both sound the exact same and the only way to know what they say is by the context. :confused: :O_O: :huh:

I picked up Steel Angel Kurumi at AX2003 by a friends suggestion as a cute anime to watch. So I said "cool I'll check it out". So I go in the exhibit hall (you have no idea how many times I said "exhibition hall" by mistake while I was there...curse my perverted mind...) and head over to the DVD section where I find the whole set of Steel Angel Kurumi (for a great price I might add). So I pick one up, read the back, and the age reccomendation catches my eye...

whether anyone cares or not, i consider this a dissappointment. Graphic novel company viz has the rights to the kenshin manga. this following article tells:

onegai teacher is a good anime (I've got both the DVDs that are out so far and all the manga)

It's a pretty cool series in general but I think the ending was somewhat weak (the manga version anyway) it might be a bit better animated...

As I recall it has close to or more than 50 episodes. Actually yeah it's probably 52, 2 seasons 26 episodes each.

Sp3ctre, you want some hardcore action, Berserk. Actually I'm not exactly sure what kind of story Berserk has to it, however it's pretty gorey so I'd imagine there's lots of action...

I will state this 1 more time, DO NOT use Kaza anymore (after the end of the month anyway), the media and movie groups got congress to aprove the use of a program that scans user's files and sue them for all copyrighted material they find there. Yeah, I'm on some sort of anime site (Anime Illusions or something) and it has a big Action rating for Berserk, Ghost In A Shell (I've heard of that somewhere) Hellsing (Set in London, my hometown :D) and Jin-Roh (which sounds particularly cool)

These any good?
