View Full Version : TR/NC AA Maxes & A Rant

well... another imbalance thanks to the NC-loving devs. :rolleyes:

a friend and i are in a liberator alot of the time and whenever flying over a new conglomerate base, there are usually NC AA maxes around. they simply own us. they have so much power, distance, and accuracy it is simply not fair at all. we are at the highest altitude going as fast as we can and they still own us.

however, i had a TR AA max cert once and it was -terrible-. the flak moves so slow and by the time it catches up to where the plane's altitude sits(IF it even reaches that. the range on this is just unspeakable), the vehicle is long gone. the damage isn't that great and overall its gimped beyond words. think about it -- the TR max is common pool because of the skyguard. in fact i wouldn't doubt the skyguard being better than the TR max. personally, i don't have any ideas of how to improve except increase EVERYTHING on it. speed of flak/range/damage. OR (this is a bit extreme) swap the stryker with it. i don't really know. teh devs are too busy getting worthless new content(TOWER SILOS!) rather than tweaking/refining the game. in refining i mean working out all of the little things. if you unlearn a cert it says something along the lines of "you must wait 24 hours then you can buy another" or when landing it says "you must be going 35% or slower". and this really takes the cake: when buying liberator bombs/bullets the name of the item box is "liberator_bomb" or "20_mm_ammo" and the description is either blank for the bullets or "liberator_bomb_info". what the hell is this? come on. i, nor thousands of others, don't spend 13 dollars a month for this.

anyone played RTCW?? the turrets/gunner positions OWNED. they need that in this game. i cant stand being in a galaxy with the damn pea shooter gunner positions that shoot a bullet every 15 seconds and do zero damage. when the pilot pulls up/down or even turns left/right the cameras -completely- screw up.

and -everyone- wants to know when things will be static. this argument has probably been heard hundreds of times. we cap a base and are moving along the lattice and whoops whats this? 5 bases back another empire is taking all of our old bases. we fight an hour to take a base and move on and look at that 15 minutes later the entire continent belongs to someone new. give me a break. there are other problems i have but everyone already knows about the flaws in the game, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Tower silos are a good idea IMO. Gives me something to do besides run around and do stupid stuff lol

the sparrow max was "nerf'd/fixed" in the lib patch, its not fire and forget anymore.

also, the gal turrets were fixed too.

i like the idea of tower silos, just make them only use like 20% of an ANT ond weee more XP when ive got nothing else to do at 2 am. Im not an EXP freak or anthing, far from it. i could stay at br8 forever and have a blast. but when theres nothing else to do... well, now theres more. that and trying to fly as fast as possible through trees with a skeet and not die.

Sparrow MAX was sure as hell still fire anf forget for me last night. Took forever to get a lock on close things, nearly instananeous for long range and the lock seemed to break at random. You also can't start launching and get the lock later anymore. But as far as fire and forget goes it still is, no other way my missles would be hitting things I can't see anymore due to terrain.

And please spare me the "OMG burster is teh sux!". I hate those things when I'm flying, no missle lock warning+planted burster=me landing for repairs or respawning for a new Liberator. They work if you know what you're doing.

apparently 1) it wasn't nerfed at all or it is still way overpowered and 2) you just suck at the liberator. the burster is by far the worst max i've ever seen. if you fly high enough and go more than 3 miles an hour they come nowhere near you.

Seems like any weapon that needs a lock on has been buggy at times. I've had my striker not lock on things that were well in range. Ahh well :(

**Sigh** You obviously haven't used the VS Starfire Max. At least the Burster can actually hit an aircraft and you have a heck of a lot better rate of fire. Also not having a missle lock warning kicks @$$.

Frankly, I don't see how the TR can complain about their AA max when every other TR grunt can carry a striker, hehehe.

I don't particulary like the NC AI max either (speaking of maxes we don't like), and the Vanu don't even get missiles that speed up when you find your target. We all have checks and balances. NCs will generally own the aircraft, TR generally own every max not their own (b/w of strikers) and Vanu can leap tall buildings in a single bound (often dodging my Vanguard rushes, hehe).

Ditch your AA max and pick up a striker.

how can you say someone sucks at flying lib? maybe u just suck with the MAX, those things can bitch the hell out of planes, trust me i know

i also know that 3 guys with pheonixs can knock the shit out of a reaver very quickly because theres no lock msg, so it takes a second to adjust and figure out a solution

1) It was nerfed, it's intended to be fire and forget however what they changed is the difficulty for keep/maintaining a lock.

2) Bite me, jackass. Using that logic, you just suck with the Burster. The liberator flies much like a pregnant whale. Try dodging something when you only have a vague idea of where it's coming from. With VS/NC MAXs you not only get the missile lock warning, you can see the projectiles on your minimap. The burster is not a worthless MAX, it simply needs to be used correctly. You can't hit anything? That's your problem, not the MAXs. It's a little trickier than the Sparrow/Starfire because you have to lead, not just get a lock. If you can't figure out how to lead properly by all means pick up a Striker. There a lots of competent burster users out there, perhaps the cert just isn't for you.

The Starfire is also not a worthless MAX, it's just not worth much. The problem with the Starfire is the only thing it can be used well on is Libs/Gals because the projectiles move so slow. If anyone has a right to be complaining about their AA MAX it's VS, not TR.

actually, an after burning galaxy can outrun the VS CrapFire's supposedly 'AA' shots. not outmanuever causing you to lose the lock you need to maintain, OUTRUN. additionally, the AA shots lose damage with range, and have non-stacking plasma damage.

yeah, they really do suck that much.

True although I found out last night that Starfire shots hurt quite a bit. The only reason they could hit me was because on Hossin in order to see anything you have to fly relatively low. Yes an afterburning Gal could outrun them but a Gal coming in for a drop can be laid into pretty heavily and if there are 2 or 3 Starfire's possibly killed. Same goes for all other MAXs though with TR and NC having the ability to keep hitting the Gal after it drops and starts to burn away. Never said the VS MAX doesn't need help, it does. My point is the Burster isn't the epitome of crapiness.

I tried burster max for one day earlier. I planted in a tower, and took out 5 reavers b4 i was killed. Burster is fine, altho i think the NC aa max needs to have its range reduced, i can full afterburn and still be hit by that thing, thats not right.

Something changed with the lock times and how long the lock remains once you get it but whether it was intentional or not I couldn't tell you since the Devs don't seem to be talking.
