WTF???
Every major net work has the ghetto patrol on. Either I'm way the hell out of touch, or the only people at home (other than me) are gang banger. Seriously, every network has some rapper rapping about asses and sex. WTF? I saw Rod Stewart once, then a whole crew of rappers came on and rapped about sexiness. I like a little hip hop (Wycleff is nice) but hot damn. It must be a sign - GO OUT ON NEW YEARS. I didn't want to risk the roads and drunk drivers (I had 2 sets of friends get killed by dd's on two different Ny's). I think I was safer out there. Hey ROds back on!

Heres a happy central time New Years to you - may we all see another!

its the mainstream thing to do. everyone likes rap and hip hop for no reason. they turn on mtv and theres boring tasteless rappy shit on - so the groupies go buy their albums and listen to their music to have something to talk to in their hip clique.
aaand the networks show it because they know people will watch it.

Yrah, I was completely unimpressed with "Dick Clarks Rocking New Years Eve 2003" The only music I saw, was that one rap group, the one that had the main line of "Take your clothes off"
Rap = Crap = thats why Kids that listen to gang bang rap crap are more likely to go to jail, get knocked up, druggie and other FUN things that the rappers dont mention in thier "songs"

Yea tupac has been coming out with new albums since he died. lol
As for Rap, it will pass. And some other form of music will be "cool" then you can watch that on new years rockin eve.
Only rap i listen to is Eminem, all other rap is just about the same thing just with different "beats" in the background.

:p Listen to Tupac, he didn't rap about money... He ocassionally rapped about sex, but most of his songs were about society and how crappy it is.

"but most of his songs were about society and how crappy it is"
I don't need some guy with millions of dollars and anything he wants to tell me how crappy society is. He wouldn't know. Besides, I can think for my self. Maybe he should of had a gew more songs about bullet proof vests!!! HA!

yeah dude, the Jurassic 5 were completely awsome!
but, punk, is the shiznit
what kind of punk? all the punk out right now is so far from its roots i dont even recogonize it...
i listen to SKA and old school punk.. some rap is cool. Black Eye Peas is a good group. there is no talk about how thug and ghetto they are. sadly, most rap is all the same and is the latest and greatest way to make kids pay all of their money to some guy with a bandaid and a necklace. tupac is cool tho. i never really listened to him but from what i hear he wasnt about all the money and other BS.

woot! punk all the way! ska is pretty cool too :) (i like old ska, like the specials). But this mainstream rap is just plain horrible... i cant imagine how people can like it. Only rap that Ive heard thats decent is this guy, Aesop Rock. I have no idea what hes talking about, but i know its not about bitches, blunts, rollin' on dubs, and bustin caps up in yo grill :D :D :D

Look, they can say what they want, its a free country... BUT!
I just do not nderstand what is so appealing about "songs" (I don't consider rap music, I think its a bunch of illiterate, stupid criminals making aweful rymes to the same beat for 3 min) that are focused all most always around the same three themes:
Drugs
Violence
Berating women/sex
Thats just sad really if you think about it.

Right, because there's no sex, drugs, or violence in other music. You can judge individual songs that you have listened to, or even the body of music of an artist after listening to them. Or you can go ahead and judge all rap without regard to your own understanding of it.
For instance, instead of:
I don't consider rap music, I think its a bunch of illiterate, stupid criminals making aweful rymes to the same beat for 3 min
You could say:
The rap I've listened to doesn't sound like music, it sounds like a bunch of illiterate, stupid criminals making aweful rymes to the same beat for 3 min
Then I would ask what rap songs you've listened to, and how exactly you define music. After that we'd probably talk about how nice it would be if we lived in a world where people didn't prejudge things all the time.

Hmmm...
I guess generalizing RAP is not the right thing to do, how about Gangsta Rap? That fits 100%. So you are right, Rap isn't tho I still don' much care for Rap period. Gangsta Rap tho, is a deginerates chice for entertainment.

I can't argue with that. Early 'gangsta rap' had the intent of putting the problems and struggles of inner city life in your face in such a way that they couldn't be ignored. Of course, that message was delivered through the recording industry, and well... $$$$$$$$$$
