id say plasma for infantry, and since you have special assault, you would have a decimator for those maxes.

true might have to start using them, at the moment for some reason only use plasmas when i see or hear a cloaker

I use the thumper rather exclusively, and I usually adjust with the situation.
- 1 or more cloakers - Plas, all the way. Not only do they fry nicely, but the burning gives their position away. 1 plas can often take out a cloaker if you drop it on their head.
- Group of infantry - Plas. Wider spread of damage and takes down both armor and health simultaneously, though less instant damage than frag.
- Max/tanks or small vehicles - Frag, for max armor damage. Don't get me wrong, you'll almost NEVER take out a tank with any grenades, but you can help others do so.
- Hacker trying to steal your tank - Plas....less damage to the tank, more to the hacker.
- Group of infantry w/a couple maxes - Plas. The faster you can whittle numbers down....
- Mixed good guys and bad guys - Either carefully launch frags (less AoE) or switch to a better pinpoint weapon, like the suppressor. Also, leading the charge with a jammer on the backside of the enemies can take away their implants just before the clash, but takes practice since you don't want to turn off all YOUR team's implants. Then you switch to frag, or rifle.
- Equipment - Frag only
- Deployables - Jammer to disable turrets and blow up mines, Frag to finish off turrets.

Plasma baby!
Nothing else will do. It kills and you can warm your hands over the corpse.
I pack a Decimator for those pesky MAXs and I strickly use plasma grenades. If for some reason I run into a situation were freindlies are too close to the enemy, then I just hang back for a moment while they inevitably die and then I start chucking grenades. I basically let my teammates soften them up and then I kill em. Any Vanu teammate dumb enough to charge headlong into NC jackhammers and TR cyclers deserve no help from me.;)
Do that and you'll get very little grief. I think 75 grief is the max I've ever accumulated and I use the Thumper 90% of the time.
Oh in case you didn't know this already, the Thumper automatically comes with Frag grenades loaded. If you want nothing but plasma in your favorites, then load plasma before you save it to your favorites.

This is like textbook material right here. But i understand some other ppls reasons for only using one type. It's not easy being able to switch nade types to suit your needs for ideal effectiveness.
The problem i always had was that when you first get the thumper it comes stock with frags. (For thoughs that use plasma you can simply switch the nade and save it that way in your favs.) Now when you goto switch ammo types if you want plasma and you got frags and jammers. When you switch it automaticly loads jammers. You then have to switch ammo type again if you want plasma. So basicly there is a sequence that follows in swithcing ammo. (frag>jammer>plasma) The cycle is always the same unless you omit on type of ammo altogether. Making it a this nade or that nade, rather than "oh shit not that one" or " oh fuck i passed it". Alot of the time switching to the jammer takes way more time than you have.
So, unless im exclusively going on a jammer mission. (mine sweeping/turret disabling) I leave them out or carry one or two hand jammers. The plasmas can rack up alota greif ina short period of time so i would never go exclusively plasma. Besides the frag owns maxs, plasmas just irritate them and i'd rather see a max dead than irritated.
Though the frags arent as good vs. infantry because of lack of splash (***coughnoskiillscough cough***j/k) They are incredibly effectvie if you can actually put a frag on a guy. Direct damage from frags??? = win.

Hehe. I must have missed the textbook. I got all that from experience. As far as reload time, well, no one said you had to stand still and reload where they can see you. Personally, I keep plases loaded initially and have the most of them in inventory, for those times when you don't have time to switch...I like the splash of green. :)

Have you ever smacked a guy on the noggin' with a jammer nade? It's like... teh pwn sauce. Jammers all the way.
On a serious note...
I'd rather carry frag nades for the sake of versatility. It has more instant damage, less grief points, and the ability to kill armored targets. Plasma is almost strictly infantry.

I'm an Engineer, so I can't pack my inventory with ammo. However, the Thumper's slow rate of fire and the need for perfect shots to avoid friendly fire make up for the small amount of ammo I carry. My standard setup is 12 frags, 12 plasma, and 6 jammer. If I find a mine, I jammer it. If I'm outside, I generally keep the frags equiped for maxes and vehicles(less I come across a pack of infantry). If I'm inside, I usually stick to plasma. It's a situational weapon.
If you're carrying a Thumper AND a Decimater, you ought to trade in a few certs for some different weapons imo. Keeping both of them on you just limits the situations you're useful. Keep in mind the special assult weapons are support fire.

Frag gernades and one box of jammers, in my opinion plasma just kills too damn slow, granted it does have that irritating, "IM ON FIRE HELP ME!!!!!" affect, but since a med pack more or less negates this it looses some of its zing.
I also carry a decimator even when im in agile, because sometimes seeing a MAX ducking behind a tree and swaping is the difrence between life and death. Also in the close quarters of indoor fighting frag gernades have just that right area of affect for killing everyone.

Both. Frag is for normal usage, plasma is for the little bastard who ducks behind the tree all the time.

I use both all the time. I start of with frag and keep the same amout of plasma. I just started using the thumper 2 days ago, and already I have increased my longetivity and kill ratio. The versatility offered by both is outstanding, and Decimators definetly kick ass. Although I have never used Jammer nades but once, if you get a direct hit on a Spitfire with a frag - its dead.

A well timed jammer in a mine field with lota of enemy targets close to the mines. Alota times they start flippin on the DL thinkin a cloaker did it, during which time you can load the plasmas.

I carry about 10 plasma packs for infantry and 2 frag packs for vehicles and MAX's, sometimes I add 1 pack of the other one for mine clearing

plasma: Good for hit and run w/o very good LOS/Time to Aim (hit guys guarding cc by tossing a nade in room but not presenting yourself as a target) Good for cloaker since you dont get accurate dmg direction and it is hard to see where the nade came from, Good Anit Cloaker since you light them up
Frag: More dmg than plasma, much more vs armor. Smaller blast radius so not as good as a hit and run/toss in room as the Plasma is, but better for 1-1 w/max or reinf.
Jammer: Very good vs deployables (Spitfires (stop from shooting and 3 kills spitfire) as well as Mines (1 hit clear large area) Etc) also good for cloakers to remove darklight, as well as to shut down spawn pts w/o destroying them if power is a concern.
