I'd like to earn some money, and my school is selling their computers for $20 each, so I plan on buying some and selling them on Ebay, or if I can't do that, a local pawn shop. The computer packages contain:
Monitor with built in speakers
Mouse
Keyboard
166ghz processor with windows 98.
Don't know about sound, video, etc. cards

What could I get for these computers if I sold them?

That whole computer, capable of playing games like Freelancer, Elder Scrolls 3, Deus Ex, and stuff like that, is worth 10 fucking dollars?! YOU CAN GO TO HELL, MY SCHOOL!

They are not worth much... The most they would be good for is minor word processing... So to a lower-income family that has kids going into school and needs a computer for their paper writing would benifit greatly from a computer like that.

But pawn shops do not usually want ancient computers because they take a lot of floor room and rarely sell.

So if you are feeling philanthropic and want something that will look amazing when applying for scholorships that require public service do this... Buy two or three of those computers with your own money, call a large corporation around your parts and ask to speak with the network admin and ask if they have any older printers that they do not need and tell them why... Usually they will have a lot since there are usually laws about disposing of large amounts of computer crap.

Then set up the computer and printer, then contact your local salvation army or something of the like and give the computers and an hour lesson to three low-income families...

I grew up quite poor, and I know when I got my first computer it really changed my life... I stopped spending my time doing "bad things" and instead put my time towards learning DOS and then eventually Windows, programming, and more... And that turned into a career for me, got me out of the ghetto and into an upper-middle class life.

So don't take for granted that something as simple as a $20 computer and some of your time could really change the life of an entire family...

Maybe you can use the case as the frame for a BattleBot, but that's about it, and you will also need extra armor, a weapon...

EDIT: I think this computer was the star of "Don't Copy That Floppy!"

166mhz will have no problem running Word 95... I would guess it has 16 or 32 megs of ram, SIMs most likely, so not all that upgradeable unless you know about parity and the different speeds...

There's also a 200 ghz version for 5 dollars more, how about that?

Normally I am not one to nitpick, but it is not "ghz" it is "mhz." GHZ is short for gigahertz, MHZ is megahertz, ghz is 1,000 times more then mhz... So if it is a 200 ghz model, that should be enough to run Word and something else small, like the human genome shotgun algorithm...

"Pentium-class computer, perfect for beginner or student, complete package! $75"

Theres your line in the classifieds... I wouldn't blatently lie to someone if they want to know more about the machine though.

Quick Note:

Ebay is out of the question (I have over 100 feedback btw), because shipping on that computer monitor/system will be over $30. No one will even be willing to pay the shipping for your old computer.

Perhaps if my first ad does not get you anything you could try this one in your local classifieds... Just a slight alteration...
