View Full Version : I need tips badly! (Decimator)

I really like the idea of the Decimator. Very much like a LAW launcher. Having 1 or 2 in addition to your standard rifle makes you a very well rounded soldier.

Problem is, I can't hit any moving targets with it! The rocket it fires is so freakin' slow. I only have luck with hitting turrets, locked down TR MAXs or vehicles comming directly at me (and if thats the case, I'll only get one shot off before I get mowed over). I've only had some success with it ambushing people.

Isn't it supposed to be the best anti-armor weapon in the game? Then why does it seem to not have the punch I expected? It seems to only scratch the heavily armored targets.

Please help!

It's a tradeoff. The Decimator actually frightens MAX players, because two hits will kill them. But hitting the target is the whole trick. Only use it on vehicles when they've paused or parked, or when they're definately going to run you over. Against most aircraft you can simply wait for them to slow down to fire on their target. MAXs are easy to hit, just rush 'em and aim for the torso.

The decimator is most useful indoors, where MAX suits can't dodge your slow moving missiles easily. If a TR MAX is locked down outside, he deserves a decimator in the face.

First and foremost as with most weapons, lead your target at distance. The deci is really good as a weapon, but you have to lead your target. Take for example a Vangaurd. Say one is coming downa road and you are on the side of it. Anticipate where it is going to be shortly, a couple seconds or so down theroad, and fire there.

Second, learn to not use the dumbfire mode. It is a bit more dangerous to use the secondary mode, but pays off much more. Practice with it a bit... That is how MAX's are killed.... whip out a deci, switch it to secondary fire and fire at the max. If he side steps it or the deci is a bit off, when it gets close click the fire button again and it will explode. This will ensure you get some bang for your buck with the deci.... and it allows you to fire rockets quicker...

Those are the best suggestions I have for you....

As a MAX I have lots of exp in this and can tell you the key to effectively using your rocket is to aim at objects behind us the splash damage is far worse then a direct hit :D

Here's a few tips ;)
1)Use the camera mode, it allows you to explode it near the target if you miss
2)Don't bother using it on infantry, it only does 25 armor/health dmg (all non-max armor).
3)Secondary fire mode fires ALOT faster
4)When you're fighting a non-vs max, shoot it near their feet, because if you miss, the splash damage will hurt the max quite a bit.

I'd agree with the taking lead bit. Playing lots of games like BF42 and DoD teaches that lead is the best idea for slow moving weapons or against fast vehicles. Also, how does PS run with 700mb (add a bit more on to that) or RDRAM run? I'm buying some and want to know.

It runs fine on my 512 RAM. I have win XP, AMD 2000+ XP, and Geforce 4 ti4200. I am going to bump it up to 1 gig in a few weeks soon. When you get near a lot of people ,and I mean A LOT - my game does slow down. I have view distance on max tho, everything else is on minimum to keep my FPS up. With the new /stats open, I average 100+ fps with fewer than 20 people on my screen.

As for the deci - its already been said. Use secondary mode, you can kill a max in 2 secs at almost point blank :D

Well, I get no problems at all no matter how many people (as long as there is no server lag). The game runs perfectly like a single player game for me =) I am running Intel 3.06ghz, 2gigs of DDR PC 2700 333mhz ram, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.
