Launch Pad is a separate proggy to PlanetSide isnt it?
Should be reinstalling that. :)
If you really wanna be safe:
- Uninstall PlanetSide and LaunchPad.
- Delete any remaining folders and files relevant to PlanetSide and the LaunchPad.
- If you feel confident that you know what not to poke at, load up regedit and search PlanetSide, then LaunchPad. Delete you find that was obviously put there by PS or the LaunchPad, if you aren't sure. Leave it.

What does that mean, the thign is, I do not install anything new or downlaod anything yet it just stops working, WTF.... :(
Help is appreciated, for those who can'#t see basically my launcher always gives me "planetside launcher.exe has encountered a problem and will now close, we are sorry for the inconveniance"...you kjnow, that windows XP error message, the only time I can play PS is by installing and launching after install, but I ain't gonna do that 10 times a day lol....
Help...

Yeah, standard XP crash message. :P
Well I guess if you dunno how to do registry editting, you probably shouldn't touch it. It isn't that hard, its just that you can really fux something if you delete something that you shouldn't while doing it. :)
Assuming you're uninstalling thru add/remove programs in control panel rather than just straight out deleting the folders, the registry should lose all PlanetSide-related crap anyway.
Mebbe you got a virus?
Do a scan. :)

Did you run a virus checker on the computer, also did you check your harddrive for errors? Usually when a program failes to work the next time after install something must be corrupting it.

Well:
I use add/remove then manually delete all remaining files....
I dunno if I got a virus, thats a good point, I haven't scanned in a while, gonna do that now.
Also, my computer gives me an error message each time I turn it on, its the erro message from XP, but this time its a file called BEPI.exe
I fixed it by doing a system resotre to a date before it was happening but now its happening again...
Hexen
2003-07-21, 07:36 AM
Well I dunno what BEPI.exe is, but if its crashing you might as well take it off startup.
If you dunno how to do that, well here ya go:
- Go to Start --> Run
- Run "msconfig"
- Click the Startup tab
- Extend the "Command" column so you can see the end filename, and look for your BEPI.exe
- When you find it, untick it's respective box so it won't start when windows loads up.
Worth a try. :)

Ok I took off BEPI.exe like you said thanks, my friend told me its somethign related to screensaves so I guess its useless anyway cause I don't use screensaver...
I jsut need to scan for virus now, eliminate them and then reinstall PS and hope for the best...
I got this a while ago too but all I did to fix it was do a system restore but I already did that the other day again and it didn't work....damn
Iam such an unlucky bastard :(

Also run a chkdsk if you get a chance make sure you dont have any bad sectors that XP keeps installing the game on (it has a tendency to do that)

i had that problem.
you have done http://launchpad.station.sony.com right?

I had W32.pinfi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost impossible to get rid of, crashes alsorts including the latest version of norton. It creates temp files that eat up all the memory until they cause a memory leak situation and does some other stuff too, you'll notice your entire system is running slow. Install you drive(s) on another clean PC as a slave and run Norton AS SOON AS IT BOOTS UP, this should clear it beofre norton gets infected, if it does get infected you mgiht be able tos stop it by deleting every occurance of W32.pinfi and all the .tmp files created since. Basically its a right pain in the arse. Oh, and it somehow stops disk formatting even from Fdisk, DOS or XP setup. You tend to get it from Kazaa and other popular P2P progs.

Ah shit I can't get rid of it, I have tried everythign besides a format which was my last option...I would have to get ALL 5 GIGS OF MUSIC AND 10 GIGS OF ANIME BACK...THIS SUCKS...WELL THE ANIME IS ALREADY GONE DUE TO AN ACCIDENTAL DELETION BUT IT WILLT AKE LIKE A FULL DAY TO reinstall
(caps accidently)

You may want to consider splitting your drive into multiple partitions. Keep your data files(mp3s, mpegs, etc) on one drive and your operating system on the other. That way if you ever need to reinstall your operating system, your data files will be fine.

LOL...that's what I was going to suggest:p That works for me everytime. ;)
And a future suggestion is that if you have an extra HD around, configure it as a slave and put all your music and Anime on it. That way if you have to reformat, you want lose all those files again.

Yeah thats what I do. :)
I've got my master drive (40gig) with OS, games and utils on it. Plus I've got a little 8 gig that has all my music, movies and stuff. :)

Well there are other ways to kill virusus but most involve at least a minimal understanding on virii.
To answer your question why people write virii, its a challenge, usually they setout to achive a task, be it to do X, Y or Z.
The thing is that 90% of virii makers dont use it maliciously, its the script kiddys that get off on making other peoples lives a living hell hole.
Back to the issue of your HD, have you any friends who own computers? its not hard to install a Hd into another computer. Of course make sure they know what they are doing otherwise they will get infected...

Off-topic, but apparently 'virus' doesn't have a plural.
Didn't know myself until recently. Need to find time to read this link:

This virus will affect various OSs, resists formatting in most cases and will infect every HD or partition on your PC if you dont catch it quick, it is a fairly malicious one despite the Norton description saying its not. It doesnt delete everything just clogs up your system until nothing works and resists anything you do to get rid of it.

If you do a "hard" format on your HD, you should wipe it completely clean. I can only see a virus being that tenacious if you have only did a "quick" format. I believe the quick format keeps some of the formating (sectors etc...) but just deletes the data. As for a "hard" reformat you completely wipe the HD clean...no sectors etc.... If I am wrong, sorry for the misinformation (and correct me please), but this is what I have learned. Just reformat. It will probably save you time in the long run. It's quick now (if you are running XP). Good luck. http://www.dslextreme.com/users/jdh333/images/smileys/cool.gif
Restart your computer. That always works for me.
