I currently have an: AMD XP +1700 (1.4 gig) w/ 512 megs of DDR (PC2700) ram and a radeon 9000 64 meg ddr card.
My system is a little bit slow when fighting or driving around running people over in my thresher. During really big battles(I mean really big) its like a 17 inch slideshow on my monitor. I would love to run the graphics higher without much drop in performance I used to but for some reason I can't.
I'm thinking of getting another 512 meg stick for my computer. Would that make all the difference graphics wise?
WHen I had 256 in my computer during the beta it was slow as crap, when I got another 256 stick to 512 total a signifigant increase in performance and loading was noticed. I just want to know if it would be a signifigant boost if I got a total of 1024 megs of ram in my system??
-thx

No, went from 512mb of PC133 to 1 gig PC3200, not much change in games. More important get a faster graphics card.

You may or may not. I would suggest upgrading the RAM (to a gig) and the vid card (9500 Pro or better). Since I got a gig of ram and the ATI 9700 Pro, I have gotten a HUGE performance boost. It's a bit of money to spend, but if you want better performance from MMO games, you have to shell out a little money. At least, I think so, but I'm no computer guru.
Someone else on these boards may have a better suggestion...
I went from 512 to 768, and got a HUGE performance increase, but the patch on 7/9 literally chopped my fps in half.

Really? I have no probles with memory leaks. I have a mere pair of 2536s, too.
But back on topic...I doubt just upgrading ram will help. And since you have 512 (and providing you have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600) it's not like you're under the requirements. If you were, then it would change. but what you're doing is basically putting a turbocarger on a lamborghini. Sure it improves performance, but It already went as fast as you needed. ;)

argh J3Ff you completely changed your post while I was Responding >_<
So to make me *not* look like a dumbass, you said that planetside had major memory leaks, and that you had to restart after quitting or have windows lag horribly.

Dropped $90 for a 2nd stick off 512MB (1GB total now) to add to my machine w/ a P4 1.6GHZ and a 9700. Made loads times a lot faster, and the frequent HDD access hickups disapearred.
My friend who uses that machine when he plays with me immediately asked if I did somethign to it. He could tell that everything was smother.

Well I Dropped $75 for a 512 stick (a good deal at best buy). *cough* well I have had some problems with some *cough* problems associated with the 1024 megs of ram which I had (2 256 meg sticks and added a 512 to the mix). When I ran PS it worked perfectly for about a minute then it crapped out on me. It did this about 5 times before I was able to read the manual and figure out that I can only have 2 sticks instead of 3 (w/3 it would revert to 266mhz instead of 333) blah blah blah, my sticks were incompatible with each other so I'm going to get another stick tommorrow.
