View Full Version : Planetside is getting sadder by the week

The total breakdown of communication between the players and the developer team is frankly pathetic.
Sporkfire, the puppet of the DEV team, at least kept up daily contact with us. But his communication all but disapeared. The days of beta are gone when Smoke, Twist, and others used to post a lot. Granted, I definitely didn't think that trend would continue, but the occasional post here or there would be really nice to see.
Quite frankly, the lack of communication goes hand and hand with the game's performance now. FPS and general stability get worse, new features always add new bugs. Test server is a joke(See Hamma's thread), and the new *Supposed* features and changes to gameplay are coming along entirely too slowly(what ever happened to base benefits?).
Bottom line is we're left in the dark, I guess SOE feels it's better to face problems with stone-cold-silence, than facing issues like a real adult would.
Before you go blasting my post (Which most of you most likely will), I feel my voice is heard more over hear than on the PS-None-Discussion board. I'm taking some time off, to revaluate if I'm going to continue playing Planetside. I think that's what's best for me at this point in time.
Anyways, if this trend continues, PS will be an after thought this time next year.

The smartest thing they could do would be to drop the monthly price. I've got a litany of reasons, but it all comes down to the whole fpsers are cheap/this costs as much as any mmorpg which inherently draws the comparison of the two.

These people are getting paid to fix this game, don't you think they're working on it 24/7? They just released a patch give them time.

You know what the only thing planetside is giving me over tribes 2, america's army, half life, etc....?
2 Things
1- Many people in one area fighting
2- Map's don't change.
I have way more fun playing America's Army, or NaturalSelection Mod for Half-Life. I pay nothing for these, in fact, they're free. I bought into the original Idea of Planetside just like the rest of you, now the weaknesses are already EXPOSED, it's a played out, and repetitive.
See i could live with that much, problem is this; the devs have stopped giving a shit. All of a sudden our feedback hasn't become important, all communication lines have been broken. Now *We* suffer.

Yes I do believe they're *WORKING* on *SOMETHING*. The problem is, communication has taken the backpage. Our feedback has all of a sudden become *NOTHING*. Even their Puppet sporkfire has barely been posting.

The fact that they have all stopped by responding to constructive feedback. The fact that they *TOTALLY* ignored our test server feedback. The fact that base enhancements were supposed to be in, and they ignore us about their status.
All signs that they have stopped caring what we are saying.

im most likely gonna get flamed er somethin for this but, it sickens me to see such blind defense for such poor results, i would explain but i dont feel like having "its an FPS you shot people" yelled at me. personally tho i like a game to have a story or REASON to shot people, wow what an idea.

Allow me to add my two cents here ...
the story is we're trapped here and each empire wants to rule.
Reasons to shoot the others are to keep them from taking over all of Auraxis and thus defeating your empire.Does that answer the question? I didn't think so.

I think Valcron needs to get off the computer a bit, get some anger management, and/or get laid.

While the changes/fixes may not be coming as fast as we'd want, I don't think we are giving the Devs some credit where credit is due.
For example. Before the Heavy Assault weapon changes were even mentioned by the Dev team the general player consensus was this:
-While the Jackhammer is strong DON'T nerf it. Improve the other two.
-The MCG could use some CoF changes and it would be a good weapon.
-The Lasher could use some RoF changes and it would a good weapon.
And the Devs have done just what the majority of players felt *needed* to be done on the HA weapons. IMO the Devs DID listen to the players. Now I realize some wanted the JH nerfed. Some wanted different changes to the other HA weapons. But the average response to the "JH Debate/Issue" was what I outlined above. You can't please everyone, but it seems to me they did try to please the majority in this case.
Many players were disappointed that the "success" of Planetside hinged on indoor, close quarters combat. The future changes to Planetside sound like the Dev team heard that and are working on making outdoor combat more critical to success. The details of their system haven't been revealed, but I wouldn't be surprised if this system also rewarded base defense now.... another popular player complaint. If that happens, and coupled with Outfits able to claim bases... this may make base defense very appealing and more important!
So really what it comes down to is the lack of interaction/communication from the Devs TO the players. I have no doubt the Dev team is aware of what the players think. I'm sure they do browse the various boards. Considering much of this "distance" the Devs seem to have from their players is very similar to Verant's "distance" from their EQ players. It makes me think their "distance" is mandated on the Corporate(ie SOE) level than the developer level. But thats just a guess. <shrug>
There's things about this game that can really frustrate me. Bugs/stability/performance are the main issues for me. But I have yet to think the Devs aren't listening to their players.

Constructive? CONSTRUCTIVE???? Valcron, you haven't given a single shred of "constructive" feedback since I saw your first thread on PSU!!!
