Something I posted in the official forums.. thought I may as well post here too..
------------
I realize there are already a few posts on it.. but all of them ended up in flames and I wanted to start fresh. I can't seem to find the letter anymore.. taken down? Anyway.. while the idea is different, I doubt it would be all bad, if bad at all.
Just the fact that it was called 'capture the flag' probably is what has most people upset. I just skimmed the letter.. but did it not say you'd have to capture something from an enemy base, bring it across open, previously unused ground and back to your base? Well.. Just guessing.. but one will probably have to hold it in your OWN base for 15 minutes. It will change a lot and probably add more great battles to the game.
First you'll have your regular battle that we have now.. assault a base.. try to get to the terminal {or now probably something you might be able to hold in your inventory for transport? or a slow moving vehical?), and capture the base. We all know how these battles work.
Now we have the second battle. Notice how I made a point to say 'unused open space'? That space will most likely be used once people figure out how to deal with a new system like this. Think of the large, open battles that everyone has wanted actually happening.
The third part of the hack would is the hardest to try to guess. Let's say the attackers have to hold the lattice unit in their base for 15 minutes. Now it's the offense that needs to worry about the NTU's instead of the defense. Hopefully by this time tower NTU's would be in and it's be even anyway.. but would this not make it flow better? Now, trying to resecure or defend a base could be ten times mroe enjoyable than it is now (personally.. i enjoy defending).
