View Full Version : The personal shield implant...Is it worth it?

I am curious why I don't see more peeps with the personal shield implant. I haven't tried it of course. Is it similar to the NC's MAX personal shield? Can an infantry type have it and if they are on a wraith or basilisk does the shield work? Sorry for the barrage of questions. I am just curious. Thanks in advance.
I find it to be most useful for max units. For regular infantry the stamina drain is too much of a problem, as having one additional second before damage is not worth it if you can't move to fight. For a max, that second might be enough to deliver the killing blow to an enemy.

No one has it, because it blows. You turn it on, it lasts for a second under fire, at which time your stamina is gone and you're moving around at a slow, slow walk.

No.
It'll absorb damage, yeah, but once the shield is stripped you're left with no stamina, which means you're stuck fatigued without any other implants. All in all, it's not worth the light damage absorbtion.

I personally think it's the worst implant, that's why you don't see it. Just turning the implant on begins to drain your stamina, and fast. You can't run around or ride around with the implant on, your stamina will be gone in a hurry. So basically in theory the shield should provide you with 100 extra hp, but since the implant is draining stamina while you're taking damage it will strip your stamina in nothing flat and leave you unable to run. Add in the fact that you'd have to activate the shield in the middle of the firefight and most people would much rather use an implant which will actually come in handy. If they change the shield to not automatically drain stamina, you'd see a lot of people using it. It would be almost a necessity, actually. As it stands it's horrible.

Yeah, you activate it and in 2 seconds you're out of stamina.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.

might be a better implant if it didnt drain stamina just for turning it on

Like I said, it would be almost a required implant if it didn't drain stamina. A free 100 HP with constant regeneration is pretty appealing. They need to figure out some sort of middle ground, but I don't know what that would be.

Darklight / Audio Amp / Personal Shield.
Those are the three best implants for a max. With personal shield you get an extra 100 or 150 armor (forget which). With it, you can take three decimator shots instead of two.. usually enough time to kill the decimator guy and get repaired.

if it didnt drain stamina at such a fast rate for activating it I would still stick far far away from such an implant. it drains quickly once u begin to get hit and stamina = life for my style of play.

Personal sheild is great for snipers as well. Being able to suck up 3 shots instead of 2 is nice for counter sniping.

Well now all most of the 10K+ guys do is hunt eachother. As soon as Kid kills anybody in BA it gets reported in /o. Next thing you know theres a squad of peeps all 10k+ killers all BR20 CR3+ actively hunting Kid and the other high rankng smurfs.
The times i have found Shield implant useful are times when i'm not moving. It saved me a once while hacking a tower and i was so close to finishing that i wasn't going to stop. Guarding an area like a chokepoint that you dont have to move is okay. Like a tunnel or the top of a set of stairs. But still very lack-luster and AA wins out here. I've used it to fend off a cloaker trying to stick me with his knife while doing healing and doing repairs. But DL is much better counter. If you are a max thats one thing. For reinforced grunt??? It need a booster of some kind. Or if meds got a stim pack that boosted your stamina that'd be cool too.

I ought to kill more BA. only recognize a few by name tho.
it's a shame they dont extend the "oufit" option under names for the enemy as well.
I've fought against a few agile/rein exo people who used shield implant. it's useful 1v1 as it draws 1 more shot of JH, but still....
stamina is life.
I'd rather surge around with 2nd wind as a fall back then having to rely on the stamina rape implant that is the current personal shield.

Well last time i saw you ina tower i was coming upstairs and i hear the AA go off and i stopped with my surge already running. Knowing full well if i proceded you'd know. Well, i went for it and sure enough you popped your head out and after a single secondary shot it was over. I had full armor and health.
Actually i have more problems with MaryJane. A name made famous in my mind by killing me with two mines deployed on the stairs inside of a tower.
TrailRix uses shield but he also uses quasar
Dreamer and StrykerXP are classic agile/surgers

The Shield is great for Max's because when MAX's are in a huge indoor firefight they dont even NEED stamina to move around normally. Regular infantry need it to run around.

the lasher is a crazy weapon. u can't run from them cos the lashes will nail u in ur coffin.
more & more I'm having to fight lasher users like maxes. stay the hell away from their front.
in some cases I don't attempt to survive. I just surge into a pack of Vanu and let them build up grief & damage.

meant to say. I find that being agressive is the way to go when facing the lasher.

I do that all the time with my rocklet gun. I'll be on the outside wall of a Vanu tower, put the rocklet gun in secondary fire mode, turn on surge, turn, click, and run in.

I played around with it while using the old MCG, and actually had success in small melees (1 or 2v1).
But its tricky to use.

I like fighting an enemy when I notice their personal shield implant activate after I put a round into them. Then 2-3 shots later I see it turn off as my target attempts to walk away from me. :D
