It depends how much you play, and how you play.

Either way it takes quite a while

No, I know somebody who has been working on CR5 since BR17. Ok, when he was BR17 he was CR2. Since then he's been working on CR5 and right now he's BR19 CR3 almost 4. BEPs come a lot faster than CEPs.
