View Full Version : Armor Piercing Technology

I am posting this to see what the importance of armor piecing is. Was there ever a time that instead of calling for Anti-Vehicle support, you fired a few shots of a Gauss or cycler or Armor piercing energy rounds of a pulsar into a lightning or Vangaurd?
Was there ever a time where u fought a MAX indoors and beaten him face to face with armor piercing shells? And if there ever was, does victory really happen that often?
Think about it. MAX's are not really supposed to be used outside unless its an AA MAX in which case they will probably be on the Roof of a facility or tower. So that leaves us with vehicles. How effective are armor piercing shells against vehciles? Light recon vehicles are too fast to be effected by it, and normal and heavy vehicles just see u as an annoying fly, but is it really worth killing yourself to take a few hit points of a vehicle?
Indoors armor piercing is totally useless. If you meet a MAX face to face indoors and u dont have a decimator or atleast a rocklet, u can pretty much kiss yer ass goodbye. I would rather run the other way screaming than empty a usless clip of AP shells into a MAX that can just be repaired. And you shouldnt really be in front of a MAX indoors anyways considering you MAX's should always be the first to enter a facility's lower leveles because they can absorb so much of the damage that you would not have been able to sustain. So wtf is the point of AP rounds?

We don't expect kittens to fight wildcats and win- we meerly expect them to try. To me that pretty well sums up AP rounds, your not going to kill very much with them, but at least you'll make the guy swear under his breath afterwards cause he'll have to track down an engy, and if you get enough people wailing away you might just kill something. AP shotties are also good for demo work. For the other empires it's i concious choice, will i carry it or not, so their not worth as much, but if your a barney, and you get cornered by a max, might as well tap alt-fire and let loose, you might get lucky, and it's infinently better then just throwing your rifle down and resigning yourself to your doom.

If you have no AV weapon at all other than AP mode on something, you're doing something wrong. Really.

Well that is practicly impossible since you can classify the frag grenades as AV. (used correctly) :D

I have owned a few MAX armors one-on-one with AP shotgun load-outs. Now whether they were already worn down by some other fight, I do not know, but I was able to take them down. This is usually only possible in a confined space or someplace I am able to use cover to shield some of the MAX's attacks.

I remember back in beta when I played NC, I knew there was a MAX in this room, so I loaded my Jackhammer with armour-piercing shells.

I came around the corner and emptied the clip into him, and he proved to be rather bad at aiming. So I dodged about reloading and emptied another clip into him.. At this point I was thinknig "F*CKING DIE ALREADY" and while reloading for the 2nd time he took me down.

After that I never tried to mess with MAXs again, I just ran away figuring it was impossible for me to kill without an Anti-Vehicle weapon.

What was I doin wrong anyway?

That was probably before the Jackhammer fix, i remember it took like 3 clips of AP to kill them and I did it. Now it takes around 1 and a half. I've killed plenty of MAX units with AP ammo... but it is easier w/ a Decimator up close or Phoenix from far away. I hate how I magically miss a MAX cause when people strafe to me they like teleport side like 3 body lengths, this happen to anyone else?

At the bigging of PS when I first got it in may I got a max and my aiming was horrible. People could kill me with just AP ammo. I was also killed once with a jackhammer once that I can remember. I don't like maxs as much because of their poor CoF so I got ride of my qusar and AV VS max even though I have taken down many reavers with it which because most reavers when they see you they stop in mid air and hover there shooting at you. But that sounds good, I might try my max again just this time indoors.

hehehe... one time i was inside in the cc room when a TR AA max just strolls in. i walked up to him so close that for some reason he couldnt hit me and i killed him with a gauss rifle :D believe it or not its a true story and i have witnesses too. man it felt good to kill a max with a gauss rifle usin AP ammo. i never thought anything like tha was possible but anyway probably just luck that i was able to use all my health packs in time. almost died, use health pack, etc etc ok i think i said enough shutting up now.

Well I can tell you the AP mode on the Pulsar comes in handy all the time. I've taken out Mosquitos, Reavers, MAXs, Lightnings and all forms of deployables with it. The Pulsar keeps a nice tight COF longer than all the other Med. Assault weapons. I love it for medium range attacks and I think it's a lot better than a lot of people whine on about.

After about 17 kills i lost count of how many reavers i've downed with a suppressor equipped with AP rounds. Get under them, unload into their belly.

The kay to defeating any enemy is to exploit their weaknesses.

MAXes mobility and speed are sacrificed for weaponary and armor.

You can kill them. You just have to use more ammo.

Keep this in mind.
