I don't know if any of you noticed but on the inside cover of the PS box they used ATTs as the base turrets. There are three alltogether. One on top of the blue half sphere on the right hand side of the base, it is facing to the right. One in the middle of the courtyard facing toward you. And one in the left hand side of the courtyard facing to the left. If you don't know what ATTs are. They're the tan hover-tanks from Starwars Episode 1.
I don't know if SOE got permission to use them but if they didn't then they could get sued. Couldn't they?

I doubt SOE would make such a blunder. I bet they were just modeled AFTER those whatever-ya-call-its.

Not even lucasarts can do that kind of shit.. claim an "idea" as their own.. unless they name it the same thing and make it look EXACTLY the same

I doubt that it's a copyright violation; Lucasarts would, I think, prove "substantial similarity", and I don't think that the ATT pic on the box cuts it. I doubt that SOE has not a single intellectual property attorney that missed that.

Plus, it would be pretty stupid for them to sue the company that created the SWG cash cow for them.

That's pretty damn amusing. There's definately a striking similarity. But yeah, LucasArts wouldn't bother fucking with Sony right now. SWG is too important.

Hey, guess what, nobody gives a shit.
They're not gonna spend a shitload of money to sue someone over something on a box that you can barely see.
Oh, and while we're at it, one of the face models has the same hair color as me. LAWSUIT...
Christ.
Damn, no need to flame. Chill.

yeah we dont not need flames where they are not needed.

Yeah, no flaming! Let's just take a screenshot someone took and draw shit on it in paint and claim to have "owned" them instead...

Although Lucas Arts probably won't file a lawsuit, I am sure about it being an ATT. Before I found out about planetside I was a steadfast StarWars Trekkie. (Don't know what you call that?)
If you look closely enough then you'd notice (on the right hand one) the three mini-proton torpedo launchers. (small black circles on the bottom of the tank.) You'll also notice that the tank has a kind of slicked back look. (part of it is not stably conected to the base of the tank) And lastly you can see that the tank has three cannon off of the main turret one main barrel and two smaller barrels one on each side. No its deffinatly the SW ATT.
Oh well about the sueing bit, I guess it was just a conspiricy theory.

Ok, yes they look similar... but no way close enough to constitute grounds for any sort of lawsuit, especially with the relationship Sony and LucasArts have with the development of SWG. Going so far as to point out proton torpedo launchers is a bit far, in my opinion. Perhaps you were looking at the cover in way too much detail on the ride home from the computer store.
All things within the science-fiction genre tend to borrow from each other in some manner, and there's no grounds for a lawsuit unless they totally copy some copyrighted object and place it into another series/movie/game. PS's Galaxy looks similar to the dropship from Halo which looks very similar to the dropships in Starship Troopers, which in turn has alien bugs that look much like StarCraft's Zerg whose characters, like in all Blizzard games, actually say quotes from various movies if you click on them long enough.
I just hate how they were too cheap to change the cover art before the game shipped.

Yeap suffice to say, someone on the Dev' team got lazy and decided to use this thing as a wall turret, picture proof fellas, not that it really matters......
