View Full Version : Galaxy vs. Lodestar?

I've not heard much on the Lodestar, other than it's basically a Galaxy for vehicles. This presents a possible problem... Galaxy pilots are rare enough as it is. What's to keep a Gal pilot from not switching to a Lodestar? Almost every player has a vehicle of some kind. Lodestar sounds like the Big Mac with extra cheese.
Of course, I could be a little misinformed on the Lodestar itself.

i seriously think the lodestar should cost 5 certs - its a VEHICLE TRANSPORT. that's worth quite a bit in my book, and i think a high cost, deserving or not, would keep too many people from picking it up.

I doubt that the Lodestar would be able to transport PLAYERS. Or, at least, very many of them.

many will pick it up, and 5 certs sounds fair, but it'll prolly be 4.
The lodestar will get AMS's there much faster, so they will be a wanted item. Now if the LS can not carry a AMS, then I doubt any will get the cert for it. it wont be worth it at all to get a cert to carry something that does not help in support

Galaxy - Able to carry several infantry and one small vehicle. Good for breaking into enemy bases or quick drop offs.
Lodestar - My thoughts on what Lodestar would be like... Definitely larger and slower, and maybe carry two vehicles total of any size excluding the Sunderer and possibly Deliverer.
So the differences are Galaxies are for troop transport and Lodestars are for vehicle transport (such as getting those slow heavy tanks around when you need it)
I'm pretty much a stand alone GAL pilot. The GAL has so many different options it can be used for people just seem to think onesided on them. The Lodestar while being able to carry heavies that extra distance just doesnt really seem to appeal. The whole thing about flying a GAL is the Hot Drops. You can rapidly deploy a full squad and a ANT or other small vehicle to a Hot LZ in a matter of sec. I think it would be cool to Hot Drop a Heavie into a LZ but it would get old after a while. the greatest challenge for a GAL pilot is keeping his "tub" alive longer then one hot drop. and if this Lodestar is bigger then the "tubs" we have now.. well surviviablity just got a kick in the pants.

Could a GAL drop off like summat the size of a vanquisher, or summat the size of a Magrider?
Nope not that I know of GAls cant dump bit loads like that. just smaller vehicles unless some one else has tried it and knows if they can? I would love to find out.

just out of inerest, what the hell is in the middle of the vehicles? i mean, bearing in mind that none of the vehicles are actually ANY more advanced than they are today [mag and thresh excepted], the engine cant have GROWN in size, so whats in the middle?> i mean, all the passengers get in the side doors and sit in little cabins. They should have one which has a massive capability to carry like a BILLLION people! and it can fly. or gohans bike? that would kick ass, then he could get out his SWORD WHILE IN SSJ and own everyone.

Im dedicating one character to just airial stuff. Im hoping that the LS is the same as the gal as 3 certs (also hope it just has a tail gun) I think that Squad Commanders who use this kinda stuff should alocate EXP to the pilots. We dont get much as is.

Yeah, I see no reason why the Lodestar would be configured to carry anything more then the pilot, Vehicle + crew, and POSSIBLY 1 gunner, but I doubt it.

Will how about Lodestar and Galaxy be the same so Galaxy/LodeStar. If the polit want it to be lodestar it will make it just for vechiles.

Anyway even if it can carry one gunner it's not going to help very much if that gun is like the one on a galaxy. Maybe be able to gun down one reaver(bad reaver pilots) at a time but it wouldn't be able to do that much for defense. I hope it can carry vechicls, if your in a squad on a continent without a base of your own, you could load up your lodester with vechicles for your squad everytime they needed them and just hotdrop them in. Or hey, you could also get lodester and a vechicle (such as a magmower if it can fit tanks) for when you solo. That way the lodster would get you ther quicker and onc eyou get to the action you land and get your vechicle out and go running people over and blasting them.

maybe you can get a whole tons of tanks or something and have people inside. and just land and they all come at once. maybe a whole one full of troop trasports and then have them filled. You could have several squads ready to go.

They should make it so that the lodestar can carry all of the vehicles pasengers including a full sunder but it has few if not one gunner. But if it has more gunners it should not be able to carry a full sunder into battle or that would put to waist the gal.

>>But if it has more gunners it should not be able to carry a full sunder into battle or that would put to waist the gal.<<
I have a feeling that dropping a full sunderer on the roof of a tower is a bit less effective than dropping 8 people is.
One thing ... :
If this thing is supposed to be able to hold a vehicle such as the sunderer, it has to be BIG. I wonder if there'll be more than a few landing sites big enough for this thing ... finding enough level ground for a galaxy can be hard enough, at times.

rofl 5 certs? I think you're overestimating it's resourcefulness. If it can carry ANY vehicle, and one can assume it will, or else it would be no more useful than the galaxy, it will only be able to hold one. Two would be a long shot, it would have to be MASSIVE. And if it could hold two, I be it would have 1 slot to hold anything, and 1 to hold what a gal can hold. Even if it did have two slots that could hold any vehicle, I still think you guys are over-estimating it.
And just something to think about, the sunderer is the largest ground based vehicle, who wants to bet which vehicle wont be able to ride in it?

THe lodestar will probably be a fad like the liberator was when it came out. Every reaver pilot(or in this case, gal pilot) will trade for it, love it for 2 days, and go back to business as usual. The lodestar IS a important vehicle BUT its not fun to drive/fly. AMSes are cheap b/c nobody likes driving them. Reavers are expensive b/c they shoot alot of missles and are fun to fly. The lodestar should be 3 cert points.

well, ill either get the loadster or medic, prolly medic, id much rather Of road a sunderer or a AMS than fly it somewhere, i mean it takes all the fun away, you know, like the going over a hill and flying 10 feet in the air in a sunderer or something, i mean thats fun
