Go to school and do your work. As for the previous post.../agree. Plan ahead too, ask the councellor if he can help you set it up so you have all the required courses. I have a few friends that graduated a semester early because they had all their credits. I just graduated this year and i fucked it up bad, lol...just have fun, but use restraint :)

I, on the other hand, am just starting freshman year in college. :D

For high school: just make sure you get your shit done before you go out and have fun. It will really pay off in the end and if you mess it up you wont get to do it over. Colleges look at all 4 years of high school... Good luck, it's really not bad at all. :D

Jaged, join as many school activities/clubs as possible... That is one thing that I highly regret about my high school time. I got an internship at a computer consultanting company at the end of my Freshmen year of high school, I then worked a LOT every year, to the point that I could not join any clubs after my Freshmen year.

One thing you will find out is the friends you make in high school will usually be some of your life-long friends, and it is usually easiest to meet friends when you are in a club with people that have equal interests as you.

I would also recommend joining a sport of some sort, that will usually expose you to a different group of people that may like to do things that you have never tried.

Basically my main recommendation is get to know as many people as possible and do as many things as possible.

1. Keep your head down. Unless you're extremely popular, drawing any attention to you is a bad thing.

2. Learn to sleep sitting up on one arm. You will find many oppurtunities to impliment this. Plus sleep is an important part of ones day

3. Slack off. You will find they really don't get on your case to do work that much in high school.

4. Skip when you want. You will also find with so many students (and I was in a relatively medium sized school) that skipping, faking notes, and deleting answering machine messages is a breeze.

5. Respect the higher ups. No, I don't mean the staff (although some maturity and respect to them goes a long way).
I mean the older grades. You might think showing some balls to them is a good idea... but trust me... it isn't..... I've seen it happen many times....

6. Find good friends. You'll find everyone is starting off new like you, so now's your chance to get with the "cool" kids.

And remember, you can coast through your early years, cause no one really looks at them :D

Conformity is bad.

I agree with 2, 3 and 4, the rest is conformist rubbish. Don't let others dictate who you will be or what you will do. If an older grade is being an idiot, don't fear to tell him so. He is at most 4 years older, not a god. Draw all the attention to yourself you want. Fear not the masses, for they are easily confused.

Well that's all nice and good.... but this is high school we're talking about, nothing's fair.

Teenagers can make other teenagers lives living hell. It's best you just stay outta the way of the higher ups.
I know if some grade 9 was mouthing off to me he'd be gasping for air in a toilet bowl.

And keeping your head down is a smart idea, especially with initiation (sp?) rituals that go on that first week.

I remember some buds that were standing around after school that first week, they got "nined". That's when you get 9's written in black magic maker all over your face. I was smart, kept a look out.... plus I looked older (well I did get asked if I was a niner once, but I ignored them and kept walking fast. No way I was going to get nined by a chick :p )

But yea, follow my rules if you want to survive.....

1.) Be a man, do whatever the hell you want, and take what comes from it.

2.) Come in the first day and give your spine over to some idiot 4 years older then you, wear a dress to school, and prepare to take it up the rear for four years.

Personally, I wouldn't let some senior punk draw nines on my face or stick my head in a toilet. Then again, I am a little bigger and more gutsy then most.

When I first got to my school, I had to get my bluff in bassically. Just show people, in one way or another, that you are bassically a peacefull guy, just don't push me. And whatever you do, don't conform or you will be eating someone elses crap for the rest of your life.

i think it depends on what school you go to, like at my school, you have to do something pretty extreme to get in trouble at all. and at some schools they will suspend you for wearing wierd cloths. some schools kids have guns and kill eachother daily. the only thing illegal at my school is 50% of the people have a joint on them at all times. so how you should act, depends on your surroundings i would say

High school will be some of the best years of your life. You will probauly end up loosing all your old middle school friends and meeting a bunch of new ones. The new people you meet will be a lot more fun to hang out with then your old ones. Don't be an ass to your old friends though, still be nice.

Sports and clubs are very important, GET INVOLVED. You wanna do at least 1 sport, two is better, Three starts messing with your grades. Community service isn't too bad either. Ask your school if they have Habitat for Humanity. You help build houses for poor people. Not shitty house's either. Its a good program.

Get in good physical shape! I cannot stress how important this is! you don't need to be ripped but look sharp!

By the end of your freshmen year you'll notice a lot of the petty boundries have dropped. Their will still be a few but they are their for a reason. Don't tamper with them. Some people just shouldn't talk to others.

School and grades, do well, this shit counts now. Good grades in highschool determine where you go to college. You don't wanna go to community college.

Drugs... waste of time and money don't bother

BEER=YES, the first time even at a party you may not like it, but you just want more for some reason, its weird.

also remeber Jaged, I remeber a long time ago you talking about doing some report for school on Planet Side. Video games don't make you popular in high school. They are a past time that a lot of people you will find that are not extremely interested in... espically girls.

If you follow MilitantBob's method you will go through high school being singled out, ignored by girls, tormented by your peers, and do lousy in school. If you want all that, just to be able to tell us (since no one will want to hear your story) that you are not a conformist and you are sticking it to the man go for it, but I highly recommend you listen to Bighoss.

Learn to stay with other freshman. Don't want to bump any upper classmen. Pay attention while moving in the halls and you just may learn how traffic works and how to navigate it successfuly and properly.

That is unless some one said, Hey this guys cool leave him alone. My point is make a friend or two with some upper classmen. It's like knowing a cop, they can get you out of trouble sometimes. I never said be the high school jock, I know where my high school jock is too, he is managing a Gamestop, he failed every college class he ever went to and everyone thinks he is a looser now. But I also know that at my high school the outsider goths ended up to be loosers more then the jocks, I know of at least 10 of the "big" goths that ended up ODing. This one in particular knocked up this really cute goth girl, found out and blew his brains out the day he found out.

I am saying don't be a slacker in high school, be as diverse as possible to expose yourself to as many groups of people as possible THEN decide what group you belong to. Or why even limit yourself to a single group, the most popular kids in my high school turned out to be extremely smart, he was in every club, a sport every season, and because he was so diverse everyone was near him and then he was not a jerk so everyone liked him. In my school the goths stood in a corner and made fun of everyone else, I would guess because they were jelious that no one liked them. (because they were rude to everyone)

But do whatever you want, if you want to limit yourself to a tiny group of people do that, talk about how the upper class sucks, talk about how everyone that is not like you sucks. Just don't be surprised if you end up like the outsiders at my school.

Squick Gee, my advice eh? Sorry if being a person and not a mindless clone produced by pop culture and years of bending over to peer pressure won't make you popular. Sorry if standing for something, being genuine and having a backbone won't get you chicks. Sorry if standing out from the crowd and not being another faceless mindless slug will get your butt shoved into a trashcan. Somethings are a little more important then others.

Also, I said nothing of being a fat goth outsider, all I said is be himself. If he wants to play football or something, by all means go ahead. If he doesn't, he shouldn't have to just to fit in or be popular.

Advice: When in the wild, avoid wild animals like lions.... you will get eaten.

MilitantB0B: Pssh! That's conformist! Don't be a pussy to some lion!

. Its a little different in this situation. Obviously if you are going do get eaten/killed/dismembered/diembowled/etc. you should avoid my advice, but since he won't.....

Also, to all of you advising him to have as much sex in highschool as he can, I personally find it morally wrong, but besides that it is just stupid. Following these peoples advice you will end up a faceless sheeple that ends up screwing up his life because he got some girl pregnant or got a STD or something like that.

The fact is that if you want to play sports, don't avoid it because it is the popular thing to do, that would just be conforming to the non-conformist sterotypes. Just do what you want and don't let other people push you around just because they are an upperclassmen or because of tradition.

EDIT: Mercy! A triple negative.

MilitantB0B, how do you exactly suggest he avoid being "pushed around?" Violence? I don't know if it is still the same, but in my school if you got into the smallest of fights you got 15 days out of school suspension, it does not matter if someone walks up to you and punches you in the face for no reason and you hit him back, you both still got 15 days. 15 days of OSS counted for 9 days of absence from your classes, if you got 10 days of absence the teacher was allowed to fail you. So basically they were insuring that if you got in a fight, you failed six classes and were forced to take summer school.

I'm sure all your goth friends will find you REALLY popular and fun to be with when they are at the mall, watching a movie, or just sleeping while you are at summer school because you wanted to be confrontational yet expect some jock to not clock you in the face for being a cocky kid.

But like I said, do whatever you want... I'm not you, I don't have to be beat down by seniors, I don't have to be lonely all high school, I don't have to enjoy no summer break because I have to take summer school.

And hey, if having a sense of total and complete individuality gives you more joy then dating and having a multitude of friends from different backgrounds then who am I to complain? Some people like whips and chains too...

Oh, and lastly I do want to applogize if I am sounding like a know-it-all or an ass, but I truthfully believe that you are giving him advice that will do him harm. Perhaps we grew up in different parts of the country and your part had more tollerance for the "outsiders" but being an outsider here meant you were guarenteed four years of missery, and I certainly would not wish that on anyone here.

So basically they were insuring that if you got in a fight, you failed six classes and were forced to take summer school. Indeed, I do not suggest violence. You misunderstand. You think by pushed around I mean physically pushed around. Things like that you have to deal with unless you are willing to take the risks/consequences of dealing with it. What I was talking about is don't let people push you around in what you do. If you don't want to play sports, do so. If you want to join clubs or hang out with one group of people over the other, do so. Don't let other people dictate your actions through the use of ridicule and peer pressure.
I'm sure all your goth friends will find you REALLY popular and fun to be with when they are at the mall, watching a movie, or just sleeping while you are at summer school because you wanted to be confrontational yet expect some jock to not clock you in the face for being a cocky kid. First, I am no goth, nor a punk, nor any other sterotype that resembles individuality (but is actually just another type of conformity, just conforming to a less socially acceptable group) I am simply me. Second of all, yes, I do go to summer school, to graduate high school faster. No failing here. Also, I said nothing about confrontational. If someone looks like the kinda idiot that would get angry because I talked with him, or toss me around because I am a 9th grader, I would just stay clear. However, if they came looking for me, I wouldn't just bend over and take it. Nothing cocky about expecting to be left in peace when you leave others in peace.

But like I said, do whatever you want... I'm not you, I don't have to be beat down by seniors, I don't have to be lonely all high school, I don't have to enjoy no summer break because I have to take summer school. I don't get beat by anyone. I am not lonly, although I would probably have what you would consider a small amount of friends. That is because I only keep those friends that are truly friends around me. I don't dull my palm with entertainment of each new hatched, fledged comrade. Yeah, summer school does suck, but I get to gradguate earlier. Fair trade in my book...

And hey, if having a sense of total and complete individuality gives you more joy then dating and having a multitude of friends from different backgrounds then who am I to complain? First and foremost, you are absolutley right, who are you to complain about how I live my life? No one. Second of all, I do not enjoy a sense of individuality, I am an individual, you should try it some time, its blast. And yes, I do enjoy being an individual more then lots of people who like hanging out with the person I pretend to be.

Some people like whips and chains too... Yes they do. Kinda like the countless young people that enjoy the chains and shackles of conformity. The masses willing what you will be and what you will do. The masses telling you to keep your head down lest it get cut off. The masses telling you different is bad, unity is life, sameness is close to godliness. Indeed, some people do like whips and chains...

Apology accepted. I also beleive you are giving him advice that will harm him. Maybe it won't hurt him now, but it will hurt him someday, by robbing him of individuality in exchange for an easier path and more friends who don't like what you really are, just what you try to appear as. Years of misery (wich I think is a very big exageration) would be but a small price to pay to keep yourself.

Summer school SUCKS.

What are you talkin' about? I'm enjoying the forums at PSU listenin' to the top 40 at mp3.com in an air-conditioned environment with a bunch of my regular-school friends. Although I don't condone the reasons for being at summer school, I still enjoy it.

Squick, so your basicaly saying if you fight at your school you'll fail? Your school sucks! I was in 3 fights my junior year (I only started 2) and passed all my classes that term. We got 15 days too when we fought, but we fail a class when we miss 30 days, and 3 tardies counts for an absence, stupid rules. I'm glad I'm out.

Maybe they are now but one time my principal was pulling a student out of class becouse he skipped school and was caught the day before. They were swearing at each other back in forth (The kid was one of my best friends, and still is) but any way my friend tells him to bring it on. The principal get's REALLY pissed and rolls up his sleavs. These guys where getting ready to duke it out! MY friend was 18 at the time so the principal didn't care. Another principal came up (we had 4 becouse our school was such a wreck) and broke it up. Fighting was pretty comon at my high school.

Edit: Best fight ever. Two girls where fighting over some guy. Then a third girl tries to break it up and get's involved. 3 WAY! Then, the close come-a-flyin. One girl's shirt got ripped off and anothers braw came undone. The same principle that I was talking about before came and hugged the one with out a shirt as he escorted her to the office. He claimed he was keeping everyone from seeing her. BULL SHIT!

Edit2: God I miss high school! Ah, to be young again.

You got it... There was SO little fighting at our school because of that too... Get this too... If you followed someone home and beat someone down there and it got back to the school they would STILL consider that the fight happened at school. It made no sense to me, but it was what happened.

We have the same follow-the-guy-home problem at our school. So we set appointments for the weekend. I've got six fights, eight no-shows. It's better that way, anyhow. I don't want the attention for the five wins, and definately not for the time I got thrown like doll.
