1999 Dodge Viper ACR
By Richard Truett
Transportation Writer
As if the standard Dodge Viper wasn't mean enough, Dodge has developed an even faster, better-handling version of America's most powerful sports car.
It's called the Viper ACR -- American Club Racer. And nothing you have ever experienced in an automobile can equal what you'll see, hear and feel behind the wheel of this very venomous snake.
Apparently there's a big enough group of people with enough money and time to buy their own wheels and play race car driver.
With a Viper ACR, you don't have to be a mechanic, and you don't need a trailer and a big truck. You can drive the car to the race track -- such as Speed World Dragway in Orlando -- burn up the pavement and then drive home -- legally.
The base model, which we tested, doesn't even come close to reaching the full absurdity of performance available. For those with extremely large wallets, you can order from Dodge a factory-built, race-ready engine with as much as 650 horsepower. But this optional motor, which Dodge will deliver to your door, is not street legal because it doesn't meet federal emissions standards.

Not to mention my dad's good friend has a Cuda with 936 Hp, and he's not rich.

:ugh: looks good but no power....
I'm searching for a new car now since by the end of the year i'll have 100k+ to spend on one

NO POWER!?!?!?!?!
Edit:
Press the accelerator and the Viper strikes. In the blink of an eye, you're knocked back in the seat and headed to 60 mph. Because the V-10 has so much power, the engine doesn't need to be revved high for awesome performance. I rarely saw the tachometer needle cross into the 5,000 rpm
range.
In fact, the engine has so much power that you can make the giant rear tires burn rubber at 45 mph on an upshift.

Spend your money on an American car, help the economy, seriously. Your 100k could help a NAVY SEAL squad assassinate Osama Bin Laden. Get something with good'ol American muscle. If I was you, I'd keep that 100k and try to find an old car, get it tweaked to perfection, and then you will have a nice car. To be honest, I would much rather have a stock car from the past, like a 69 Corvette Stingray, 65 Chevrolette Camero, or pretty much any 60s modle Mustang, rather than a new Japanese or Taiwan car. Also, with a foreign car, you have to find a foreign mechanic. By this a mean one that knows foreign cars, and they can be hard to find. Most mechanics around here can do good jobs on American cars, however on foreign cars, they gotta order the parts. So if you reck the foreign car before a hot date, you could be screwed.

I  Dodge. The first time I saw The Fast and the Furious, the end, I almost cried :tear: But like I said a good friend of my dad has been building a Cuda for about a year now and he has it up to 936 Ponies. It's Orange with two black stripes, big ass tires on the back, hood scoop, reinforce steel cage on the inside. He let me start it up about a week ago, OMG. I've never felt so powerfull. Even when I drove my Dad's 69 Corvette Stingray on the highway. Damn I love cars.

Please provide where you got your info
Yeah, gotta love the MOPAR products. My first car was a '68 GTX. Beat to shit, 7 different primer colors, one seat, 300K+ miles on it. Wasted lookin' 440 and auto in it. Paid $150 not running. Worked on it 10 minutes and drove it home.
The guy I bought it from was mad as a wet hen, as he was told it had a cooked engine (he knew squat about cars). heh....yeah, like I was gonna tell him all it needed was points and a timing chain?
Drove that car another 100k before blowin it up myself. Never got to dyno it for HP numbers, but then again, how much HP would a 400K mile (basically stock) engine make?
Loved that car. Got my first.....um...lovin'....in that car.
Also my first tickets, first wrecks, first run over 130mph.....fortunately not all at the same time.
ahh, the good ol days.
PS:Comparing a Maybach and a Viper is seriously comparing apples and oranges. HP aint everything. Took me 20 years to realize that.

How big the backseat is matters too :o.
But even if the horsepower on my hummer is low... I'm starting to mod it when my first pay comes in... first I'm changing the color then I'll see... all I know is my baby will crush any car off-road and on... literaly...

Do you have a Hummer or a "H2"?
Edit: And if you're gonn a get a Viper, I suggest you get an older model. They look better. Something before 2000 would be nice

Spider, buy a Tempo and give the rest to me :p
Or, for sheer comedic value, turn a VW Bug (the old one) into one of the nastiest little street racers ever /nod
bug into a giant killer. easy to do.
used to be one around our 'turf' back in the day that was a bug body grafted onto a V8 Vega chasis. 180deg headers (for you gearhead types) that would make it sound like a 4banger...sorta.
the guy easily won enough coin street racing to pay for the car as well as the tires it would send up in smoke.
respect the bug. I've seen 'em do some nasty things to V8's on the strip.

No fucking way that I have the h2 sissy truck! I have to good old H1! Raw military power *grunts*
you mean not with a 'stock' engine.
Vee Dub engines have a ton of potential. adding roller mains, turbos, etc etc. they can be absolute screamers....and being distant cousins of porche engines, they definitely have the breeding to be racers.
dont let em fool ya. someone who really knows em, and has the $ to put into it can make em real ground pounders.

Volkswagon bugs used to be used as German race cars back in the day so, yeah if you put a lot of money into it they could be kickin.

I was more concerned with a V12 thats only 5.5L???
the pistons must be as big around as a golfball.
500hp from a factory engine is outstanding. No, its not a top fueler to be sure (1k++ HP), but its pretty good for any street car, considering my "High Output" 5.9L is only rated at 245hp (stock) from the showroom.
and remember folks, this is a freakin Limo, not a psuedo racecar like vipers and such. 500hp is PLENTY
