So what's everyones thoughts on the skyguard, my opinion is still quite frankly that they suck. The flak does not do enough damage when it hits, is too hard to hit with when the vehicle is moving (and the vehicle better stay moving if you want a snowballs chance in hell of living). In addition it seems like the way the vehicle rides it's hard to run over people (at least under the old physics system) often times when I played with it I'd skip right over people. The other iritating thing about the skyguard is like with any tank the real killing power lies in the gunner not the driver, magmowers, prowlers, vanguards you can all lives with mediocre gunners and still get your fair share of kills, not so with the skyguard its very skill intensive to actualy get kills with.

My proposed fixes:

1. Keep the skyguards gun configuration but mount it on the new lightning chasis thereby giving people who actualy shell out the cert points a more satisfying battle field experience.

Or

2. Replace the flak launcher with a homin missile launcher 12 round clip slightly more kick to each shell then the NC AA Max, this will give the ground troops some relief while still leaving air power viable.

I like the Skyguard as it is now. If your gunner can't hit air units on the move, then you probably don't have a very competant gunner. It happens to me all the time. What it comes down to, though, is the Skyguard is a Harasser with a Flak cannon strapped to the back, which is good enough for me.

I have seen one of these things knock out droves of air units, so I guess it just depends on the skill of the gunner, and the finesse of the driver.

Yeah I like the skyguard too. If you know what your doing, you can take down any aircraft fast as hell. I just think more people should take this cert, there are too few of them out there. What I do for base defense, is just park the skyguard somewhere in the CY, and then hop in the gunner seat. If three other skyguard drivers did this, no plane could near it.

I prefer the flak cannon to the locking missiels, since the pilot gets no warning, and doesn't have a chance to afterburn away before you blow them out of the sky.

BTW, you shouldn't be able to run peopel over easily, its light buggy, the harasser can't run over peopel easily either.

I love skyguards. They make great targets for my Lightning :p

The main problem with the Skyguard is that it runs out of ammo WAWAYWAYWAYWAYWAYWAYWAYWAY too fast. It runs out off ammo so fast, its not even worth using it.

I keep expecting one of the Skyguard drivers to pull up and ask me to wind him back up. Skyguard, by Tonka!

Not much use, the lightning is nearly as good AA wise and much better elsewhere.

I recently certed a skyguard seeing as how they are much needed for my empire. I usually have the same gunner. When attacking I try to stay on the edge of the battle with it. There's no need to be right in the thick of the battle with it's weak armor. It has the range to be able to take out targets from a distance. And when I see enemy armor coming it's time to run. When defending a base I try to stay inside the walls away from the entrances. Knowing from experience that most AMS and ANT runs fail because of mosquitos or reavers I'll escort these vehicles when I see them.

I'm gonna get a Skygaurd tonight. I've been thinking about trying one. Every night I see some on the kill screen. I can't wait :D

The skyguard is a kick ass vehicle when I was VS (when my friend was usually on) we would get a Skyguard and just roam around the continent shooting the planes dead. One time the skyguard became too damaged and we had to ditch it so we gave it a 21 gun slaute and put it out of its misery. I have more respect for the skyguard than any other vehicle. I consider myself one of the many good gunners on emerald, I'm pratically a jackof all trades with vehicles and gunning.

I've only seen two Skygaurds in the game so far,

Once I saw one close to my base blow up.
And the other in Virtual Reality.

I'm with Wolf I have seen a handful at most, and none I have ever seen have been in battle :(

they should increase ammo space/clip size or both by about 50% :( it needs helping.

Doesent the lack of ammo piss anyone else off besides me? Seriously, you CAN RUN OUT OF AMMO trying to shoot down a single Galaxy. This is the reason the Skyguard is fucked. Compare it to how long you can gun the main gun on a tank. Hell, there is no comparison. The TR burster has like 3 times the ammo and its like the same gun basically.

Seriously, the Skyguard runs out of ammo as fast as Reavers run out of rockets. Compare it to how long you can gun an Enforcer, or how long you can gun a Marauder. There is absolutly no comparison whatsoever. The Skyguard (and the Thresher actually) run out of ammo like 5x faster than any vehicle except the Reaver, but obviously the Reaver needs an ammo limitation

I use the Skyguard with extreme effectiveness in any scale of battle, but I generally use it solo.

There is a very large learning curve on the Flak cannon, moreso than any other weapon in the game - but once you get its lead down you'll be devastating with it.

The best way to use the Skyguard I have found is by perching on a hill or cliff near the combat area - it has effective range of around 450m, so if you can see the target you can hit it. When I spawn the vehicle I also get rid of all the 20mm ammo and fill it full of Flak shot.

This vehicle is also great for tower/base supression fire, think of it as a long range artillery piece. You can 'shell' enemy towers, and though you wont pull massive kills out of it, you'll effectively supress the upper levels - couple that with your ability to keep the skies clear of enemy vehicles and you've just obtained air superiority.

I am the only skyguard driver on Konried that I know of, but if its in the sky, I'll be taking it out - the only thing the skyguard has trouble with is a very skilled Liberator pilot, and only then if the Lib pilot gets the drop on you.

Well, to the Skyguards credit, you can drive it in reinforced. But fix the damn ammo problem please...
