I got my ping always arround 230, well, i am in Hong Kong right now. The game runs ok, but it seems it's harder for me to kill in Planetside than other FPS game. So, i just want to you, what's the ping value everybody usually get? And what's the reasonable one? What kind of weapon should we use under the high ping? How about vehicles?
Thanks everyone!
Here is the poll
1. <50
2. 50~100
3. 100~200
4. 200~300
5. 300~400
6. >400
P.S, please mention your location and your server as well.

When you are playing the game, press Shift+Period (">", "."), you will see a small black box, has value of Ping, FPS, and Loss.

I'm on dialup on Johari and ping is normally ~180. When I've gotten bogged down in large battles I've seen it exceed 9000 (that's not a typo). For every kill you get strictly because you're on dialup and the client based hit detection helps you out, you probably die 5 times to somebody with a decent connection. I personally prefer to play infil but it's definitely not the best to excel on based on the connection. I have the most luck with sniping (client based hit detection helps you out there quite a bit) and with driving large vehicles (same thing, you can run over people who are completely safe on their screens).
Unfortunately I can play something like SWG with no lag issues whatsoever, and sometimes the lag in Planetside makes it completely unfun to play. That's the joy of dialup, though.

Yes, this gives you fps, ping, and some other stats I believe. I use it sometimes to see what my fps is during a big battle. I am on the W. coast, but my online gaming buds (ncgamers.com) are on the E. coast and central states. So I went with Emerald (E. Coast server). I tend to get a ping around 115-150ms. I am pinging the W. coast server Markov around 30-40ms. Oh well, that's the sacrifice I make to game with my NCG (New Century Gamers) buds, It's worth it. http://www.dslextreme.com/users/jdh333/images/smileys/cool.gif

Lonehunter, not everybody knew that (/stats) would give you ping. Heck, I just learned that recently myself not too long ago, so go easy on the ignorant. :p That's why some people post...to learn more about the game. I know that's why I post. There's also the entertainment factor at times too though :p

From the UK
Werner > 20-30
Emerald > 160
Markov > 180
Ping doesn't really bother me, its Loss that does my head in.

I get 60-80s on Emerald, and 80-100's for Markov and Kornied

I know somebody who has 3k RAM. 50 fps is slow for him. He can also downlaod songs on kazaa while playing.

Canada, BC playing on Emerald :
Normally its around 100-140, with spikes up to 180 in medium-large battles. In huge battles (when your mini-map is dotted with green everywhere) it usually stays around 180, upstream around 50 and downstream about 3k. Upstream/Downstream are new to me, but since its red i get the feeling its bad. :D
West coast server :
Pretty much the same with ping around 70-80.
As for weapons, guesses would be to use something large (vehicles) or something with splash damage.
Edit : Oh, and both /stats and /alarm are new to me. ;)
