It would help if i knew your graphics card, but all three would help, you definately should get more ram, 256 isnt that much, I got 768 and sometimes i lag, but i got all settings 2 high. If you're an ATI person i would suggest a radeon 9000(128), its priced very well and is a pretty good card. You might wanna up your ram to 512. And as for your internet connection, that should be your last resort if you still have lag after that, because from 56k to broadband can get pricey. You also should lower your internet and graphic settings. They have a setting for 56k internet.

I would suggest getting all three, I have a broadband connection, 1 gig of ram, and I think an ok graffics card. I haven't seen the difference between broadband and dial up but I heard it was good. I used to have 512 ram and the lag happened but not very bad. So I upgraded to one gig of ram and now when other people complain about serious lag I have none. Also try turning off all other programs such as virus protection programs for better performance. The video card will reduce video lag, but if you want less video lag without spending any money turn your graffics to low under options for planetside. I have mine set on low and it helps video lag alot, also I have a really good video card but I haven't installed it yet, waiting until this video card in my computer right now gives out. Hope this helps

Thnx, yeah like i said radeon 9000(128). ^_^ Thats what i have and its nice. Its a very good card and is around $100-$150. I bought mine a while ago for $150 so the price should be lower now

Yeah I just checked and the new video card I got is a radeon 9000 pro. Would that be any different? Is it any good and does it help video lag much?

Help compared 2 what? What was your other card? When I upgraded my video card i noticed much better graphics and less lag at higher graphic settings. What version do you have? 64 mb or 128mb? I think the 128 is much better.

It's been my experience playing PS that the game is a very hardware-demanding program. I started playing PS with an AMD 2.2Ghz CPU, 512MB, 128MB ATI 9700 PRO. The above system specs still showed signs of lag at times, which I found amazing over a broadband connection. The fix I found for the above caliber of system was more memory. When I upgraded to 1.5GB of system memory my lag issues has become a thing of the past. So I suggest loading your PC with all the memory you can find, because PS is a memory HOG. Whish you all the best with your lag issues, lag kills.

yeah, tis true *sniff* Planetside is a memory hog. As AgentDuck said, closing background programs helps. Memory is important, but 1.5GB is probably a bit of overkill lol ;). With 1 gig of DDR and a good vid card you should be good.

//Edit Well, actually youll be more than good. With that youll run very well, at 512mb youll still have some lag but definately not as much as you have now.

I have an Amd 1800Xp, Over clocked at 1.22ghz 768 DDR, Roadrunner connection, and i never lag i usualy have between 30-78 ping, but sometimes my FPS will drop to like 11.2 and then shoot back up, best i usualy get is about 55 in the sancuatry, i have a 64mb Geforce vid card. New vid card would up the FPS right? or would that be the processor?

If you only have about $100 bucks, go for the RAM first. They should really change the box to say that 512MB is the minimum. Right now I'm using RDram, I'm not sure if my comp can use DDR, but its not that old. I might get a new vid card next paycheck. This game is a hog, but its worth it.

ok, u guys seem to know a shit load about ram, so i gota question for ya...

i upgraded to 512 for ps before it came out (i have rambus memory) i just picked to go up to 512 cause thats what the "max" ram was for my pc on that best buy memory chart. Is there any way around that "max" other than a new computer that can handle it?

There are always ways around the "max" settings on a computer. Over-clocking is pretty common, but not too safe for your PC. Let me put it this way: There's no way to get around them without tinkering a little bit, but if you change this here, that there, etc, you can usually get around them. I wish I knew how I'd tell you but I'm not a computer nerd to that high a level. All I know is that you can do it.

Over-clocking, its just going into your BIOS, and adjusting the FSB speed. extreamly easy, simple, and able to fuck up your mobo if you do it wrong.

Ocer-clocking has nothing to do with getting more RAM into your machine. Just as teh above says, it increases your Bus speed.

Tweaking with ones PC beyond the manufactures specs are best left to the people who have money to BURN or MacGyver. Over clocking ones CPU is simply applying more voltage to a CPU than it's designed to handle. Over clocking well result in burning up the transistors in the CPU over time if not cooled properly and cutting down on the CPU's computation ability over time.

so in other words, be happy with my 512 and not fuck with anything while saving for a better comp in the futer... got it, thanks guys
