id get pissed too, that shit dosent represent gamers at all, yea, just cuz some jack ass shot up his school and played doom, the thing that pisses me off the most is not that the school was shot up, but they blamed it on games, as if gamers are thugs or something, blah

The best was when my theology teacher insinuated that the war on terror was perpetuated by games, lol, that ruled.

that cartoon pisses me of as well, and that letter of response from penny arcade was well written, justified and had a good point.
there's also a very good article about the battle for game rights in PC Gamer this month, and by the look of it, this should bring about a rather definitive end to the offense against video games.
let's see, there was the law in indianappolis, which was won by the ISDA
there was the missouri law, also won by the ISDA
and now there's this san francisco liberal bullshit, also very likely to be overturned, you can't ban a form of entertainment because of content, though you can rate it
now, that's 3 major strikes against the case against games, if the state lawers going against the ISDA lose in the coming battle, they'll have little chance of taking this to the supreme court, basically winning the case for games
the same thing that's happened to games has happened to other forms of entertainment as well before, music, comics, movies, books, in the end, the oppressors always lost, it'll be no different here.

On one hand I fully support that idiot's right to say anything he wants with his art. After all this is America and that's one of the founding values of our nation. If not for free speech the world in which we live would be very different and almost undoubtly much worse off.
On the other hand for creating such an idiotic and misleading cartoon I want to hit that artist in the face with a large bat over and over and over and over and ov...well you get the idea.

theres really only 2 senators fighting against all video games in general: Joe Liberman and some other asshole who no one's heard of. However, they cant even shut down games like Postal 2 because of the First Amendment.

actually, it's the parents who don't take the time to discuss with their kids what is right and wrong, what's real and what isn't, then blame it on the games they buy for their kids.
edit: I've played postal 2, it's kinda funny, it goes way beyond the lines of "games 10 year olds should play" but that won't stop the parents who sit in chairs all day drinking beer from buying it for their kid to shut the kid up for awhile so they can sit there and drink more beer.
Games don't cause violence, parents not giving a fuck about what their kids do causes violence.
Have you ever heard of a kid who was raised well by parents who played violent videogames go out and murder people? Didn't think so, it's always the kids whose parents barely even knew they existed.
Games aren't the problem, parents are the problem, maybe if some parents would actually talk with their kids, stuff like the columbine shootings wouldn't have happened.

actually, Joe Lieberman quit pursuing the video game industry in 2002, his whole platform on the subject was that the games were being marketed to children, but after he saw the ESRB and how the IDSA had made considerable gains acording to the FTC, he dropped trying to get games to be federally regulated
i think the other guy you are talking about is Joe Bacca, and the shit happening in san francisco is the work of Rep. Dickerson.
