View Full Version : The Anti-Noob sentiment

This applies to PS and to a lesser degree all multiplayer games.

I read the Ascully review for PS and one thing bothered me. One of the main reasons that the reviewer didn't like PS more is the fact that no-one wanted to help a "noob". Why not? Think about every person whos thinking about buying PS right now who reads that review is going to hesistate to do so at least a little bit. With populations on the servers falling fast why do we drive the new players away? I know its not everybody but some ppl enjoy picking on new players.

We should welcome newbies into the PS community. Answer questions even if the answers seem obvious. Invite them to join your squad and teach them the basics. We were all noobs in PS at one point. I remeber my first days of PS back in beta. Trying my damndest to kill a max with my suppressor :p.

So be nice to the newbs. Remeber Planetside's survival as a game might depend on it.

I remember when everyone was always cool to noobs, now we have people even telling the vets who have complaints about the game to stfu and quit playing. People are shortsited.

I stopped some time ago seeing this game as a coomunal project, I dont see it as my job to try and keep planetside alive, i merely pay my fees until i get sick of the damn game. Having said that I've always tried to be couteous to everyone, although sometimes i get a little short with people.

In my book, noob and newb are 2 different things. Someone new to the game, but generally a cool individual is a newb. Often times I will help newbs learn, sometimes I just feel like playing and I politley brush them off. A noob is someone who normally doesn't know about the game (not always, but most of the time) but is an idiot. Whenever I first start a multiplayer game, I always thank everyone for helping me, apologize if I messed them up with my ignorance, and try to learn things the best I can.

But yeah, the populace is shortsighted. Oh well, when the world is blind, the man with sight will rule them. :D

RTFM DAMNIT! i did! they should too, i remember those days, back in beta, where i read the online game manual, and learned how to play the game, though, i always end out helping the noobs i meet or squad with because not many other people will, sometimes it can get annoying, and i then have to teach em how to get in a tank or hotdrop or equip, i dont see why people dont RTFM

When the world is blind, the man with sight will piss off all the blind until they finally just poke his eyes out.

- A guy who don't know well the game and ask for help is a newbie, and I often help them.

- A guy who fire EMP grenades on a friendly Vanguard to see how they work, or who keep climbing over my tank long after I warn him, this guy is a noob, and when is can't ignore them sometimes I kill them...

Yeah i agree with the newb noob thing. I'll generally do all ican to help a newb, take them on little tours and get them into squads etc until they know basically what is what. Even took a couple through VR training the fast way. A noob is someone who exploits, TKs and generally does stupid sh*t you want to TK him for. People who wast everything inside a hacked base are the worst sort of noobs.

Well, if we ignore new people, we risk losing a good base of players that would make the game good for us all. Read that latest, short review of Planetside to see what I mean.

I often lend a hand to the NEBIE player. Simple things around the sanctuary... I mean, come on, what else are you going to do while waiting for the HART? At least get them going in the right direction...like towards the VR.

Now the NOOB who keeps stabbing my MAX suit after I tell him to stop? He deserves to die.

Yeah, I agree with most everyone else. I'll generally help newbs, asking questions on the broadcast, and I'll squad with one every once in a while. Thing that annoys me is n00bs who tk, I enjoy getting grief racking up n00b tk kills.

It's the equivalent of someone poking you constantly and when you tell him to stop he just keeps poking. eventually you'll punch (TK) him, but until then it's a friggin nightmare.

The worst is when they send /tells saying:
OMFG U N00B!!!1 KNIFESCANT HURT MAXS U FUCKTARD!!!

Yeah, some people are a little too hard on new people these days.

Yesterday someone in my squad goes "FUCK YOU NOOB!" to someone else in my squad. Then he proceeded to go "NOOB!" a few times, just because the newer player wasn't at the same base.

Course, I wasn't at the same base either but he didn't give me any heat because I was higher BR/CR than him I guess...

This is one of the primary reasons I think PS will be gone sooner than later (it might pick up some afterlife players once it hits the bargain bins though). I haven't been playing all that long (only a bit over a week now) and I'm already fed up with the game because of this and a few other reasons.

I RTFM and went through all the tutorials and was promptly walked all over when I went online. When I asked how I could survive in the game for more than 2 seconds I got a bunch of "Fuck off stupid noob!" answers until someone finally told me I needed to join a squad. That's easier said than done for a new player though. In a week of playing I have been in exactly 1 squad for all my LFS advertising because nobody wants low level noob players in their squad unless they have some special skill. And if they have a special skill that means they didn't cert into something that they should have early on and will die horribly no matter what people do to protect them.

I wasn't able to kill a damn thing until I found out you can run down people and kill them instantly with the vehicles. I have a total of 3 non-vehicular homicides to my credit now. And a whole lot of people that are bitching that I'm a noob for doing things that way but fuck 'em, this is war!

I can't wait till Sanc strikes are possible. The noobs will get what they deserve ... :)
