Patch goes live.
Here's how it seems to actualy work
Patrch is conceptulized
Patch is uploaded to test server
Post and broadcast annoying messages about test server
Exact same patch is uploaded to live reguardless of data.
Send spork to insult peoples inteligence on forum.
Project lead switches jobs so to better conceptulize expansion pack and LLU system to generate more intrest in the game.
My solutions to fix at least partway.
Delay the expansion, 2 new vehicles and a change in the way the game is played is not dynamic content. Prevent subscriber cynacism by providing more "free" content.
Extend free trial to 30 days. Reduce cost of game retail to 20$ and include free keychain.
Allow all characters on test server to start at BR20, thus giving you a better snapshot of what weapons people will use regularly.
Delete all characters on test server everytime a new patch is being tested.
Initiate a trouble ticket system for bug resolution, get at least two live human beings on 24 hours a day for each server to handle customer complaints/run events. Assign one person 24 houyrs a day to sort and upchannel or resolve trouble tickets system wide 24 hours a day. In a pinch recruit volunteers to accomplish this task. It worked for UO for years.
I'll end this rant here because i'm starting to run on.

But yet it dosen't change the fact that your statements are correct.

gamers: $13 a month is high, why do we have to buy a $50 box if we have the beta version, can't you throw us ANY frickin bone here?
Sony: STFU

gamers: you bug it out worse every time you patch! test better and for pete's sake get some customer service that isn't actively allowed to insult people they are supposed to be helping.
Sonyspork: cripes... we've made our stance on everything clear haven't we? and yet now I have peel out of the breakroom chair to tell you stupid SOB's for the millionth time... STFU. whiners. oh, and have a little faith.
that was the past, and like doctor phil says past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior. If you want to be on the spin cycle for umpteen months before you're finally hung out to dry and worse to wear for it, go for it people, but the PS team has set its precedents and is sticking to them.

they hired more devs, give it some time, i think PS had a rocky start, i mean, what? were 2 months into this thing right? or was it 3? well still, its only started out, all MMOs had these early problems.

I love how you people seem to know how to manage an online game. And I love how you complain about everything Sony does, without a second thought.
Anarchy Online was unplayable at launch. Then it won MMORPG of the year.
PlanetSide has been out 2 months, and ohhhhhhh its so horrible I cant believe they put in this and that and ohhh blah blah blah even though this game is horrile I still play it.
PLEASE SHUT THE HELL UP YOU IDIOTS WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!! NOONE WANTS TO LISTEN TO YOU YAP EXCEPT OTHER COMPLAINERS!!!
If Sony said "Ok now we are going to do exactly as you suggest" youd still complain. They could make the game perfect but a little bug here or there would just make it so horrible and demand attention from all you n00bs.
When I'm playing Planetside I notice the people who arent fighting and arent in squads sit around at the Sanctuaries and complain there asses off.
Do us all a favor and SHUT THE HELL UP!

I dont complain about everything, and gods knows my experience running a MMORPG is limited, however having worked as a guide for UO and having played almost every MMORPG since then, I do have a certain observance of thsoe who handle customer support well, and those who dont. Also since i work in the tech industry I have a bit better of a feel I think for how the product cyle should go.

Ah, let me clue you in on something, when PS went open beta I cant speak for everyone but it was stable pretty only lagged in major battles and relatively bug free. It has more bugs now and CTD's then it did then. Also MMORPG of the year is actualy rather arbitrary because it sure as heck wasnt going to go to an established product, so they picked what came out that year. Easy to win a race you run alone.
PlanetSide has been out 2 months, and ohhhhhhh its so horrible I cant believe they put in this and that and ohhh blah blah blah
Blah blah blah is right, because here we are, on a planetside side, and god forbid there should be any players, people who play the game and pay the monthly fees, should have somethign negative about the game even though overall they play it and enjoy it.. Bad thoughts bad thoughts, burn the books,
NOONE WANTS TO LISTEN TO YOU YAP EXCEPT OTHER COMPLAINERS!!!
Technicly speaking, and being a cheaky bastard I'd point out that people arnt ever "listening" to me yap on these boards. Secondly you obviously do becaue you take the time out of your day to complain about my complaints, therefore makign you a complainer yourself.
SO here's your model.
Get home from school
Go to PSU.
Point out home lame complainers are.
Complain about them but now use foul language.

Then he can keep trying.
Ahh shut your mouth you idiot. By saying you're in the "tech industry" I bet that means you're a cashier at Circuit City.
"Would you like to buy a 5 pack of floppies with that for only $1.99?" And now I understand why you're such a whiney bitch.
Give us a call when you're a project manager for a software development company, and then maybe we'll listen to you talk about how to develop software properly.
In the meantime, here's a spoon. Eat up.

The day that the devs start to take the whiners on the SOE forums seriously is the day PS dies.

You guys must be playing something else. PS looks like it's healthy and still going strong to me.
I don't think people should be complaining about this stuff. The game is still new and all MMO's have a bad start. It seems like they are always released before they are ready. But I've been playing Planetside for almost 2 months now and I don't have a simple complaint. I think that SOE is doing a great job with the game.
And even though many people hate the new LLU I think its pretty cool I've never seen battles outside of bases like this before. And they have only put it on some bases and not on all of them so it doesn't change the way all bases are hacked.

The only real complaint i have is the CTD problems since the last patch (and the ones before were only just bearable). It really shouldnt happen in a game we're paying to play. Played quite a few MMORPGS before, but none anywhere near as CTD prone, although they all did CTD occasionally.

yep, since the new patch there have been alot of CTDs for me, but i am confident SOE will have that fixed in the next patch, and if not, no big deal - its relativeley quick and easy to log on
IMO this game is going to get much better than it is over time, as the devs bring in new material and stabalize any existing bugs

I CTD at least twice a gaming session since the last patch, and getting booted out of a fun battle only to relog and end up back at sanctuary trying to make it back before the battle ends can go a long way towards turning a fun gaming session into not much fun at all. Hopefully they're smart enough to realize that not a lot of people are going to get fired up about an expansion when the existing game has such large hiccups all of a sudden. I think they will fix it quick, with an announced expansion they'll be under the microscope for quite a few gamers.
