View Full Version : 3 squads walk into a bar

According to what we know, the largest group of players that can share the benefits of an action is a platoon of 3 squads. If more than a platoon of soldiers are present for the taking of a base, some people will be left out in the cold on the CEP, and probably a large portion of the BEP. To avoid problems, platoons will likely need to be assigned individual tasks.
Let's assume 10 soldiers to a squad. I think that's a galaxy crew short of what it needs to be, but it is the most reasonable solid number we've heard so far. (unless Hamma remembers from the demo?)
What do you think will be an effective platoon breakdown for taking a base? How about defending a base?

Good question. I think in an assault on a heavily defended base, I would set one platoon to vehicular assault, (buggies, tanks, andr eavers, mosquitos too because platoons are pretty big) and another platoon as ground transport and infantry assault. Basically first platoon will defend the transports (galaxies, sunderers, deliverers)and when close to the base, various infantry will be deployed. A third platoon made up of infantry (Mainly cloaked guys) would be on the other side of the base, and would come in as platoon 2 deploys.

Okay, I'm confused now, how many platoons to an outfit? Is there a limit?

you are confused.
an outfit is just a team. like a clan or tribe.
squads and platoons are in-game mechanics used in order to ease command and teamwork of groups of soldiers and share the BEP and CEP gained while attacking/defending.

Yes, but you didn't answer my question.
So platoons don't have to be just within an outfit?
outfit > platoon > squad
right?
Lets get down how outfits can be organized shall we?
Ot seems lik it goes:
FACTION
OUTFIT
PLATOONS (unlimited number?)
SQUADS(3 to a platoon)
is that right?

Thanks, but I got that stuff already, my real question is this:
1st: how many platoons to an outfit?
or
2nd: can you form platoons/squads with people not in your outfit? (doesn't seem likely I know, because you could form a temporary outfit)

1. No known limit.
2. Yes

Thank you airlift.

Also, afex, where in that did you read the words, "What's an outfit"?

Everyone within a certain radius of the base captured likely gets the same BEP/CEP bonus for it, in addition to what they got while the fighting took place. So I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I don't know where this came from warborn, but I disagree,
Sure everybody who participates gets BEPs for fighting, but I would think only those in the outfit that captures the base would get BEPs for the capture.

Ok, here's the attack platoon I keep coming back to:
Squad 1:
2 medics
4 rifles
2 maxes
2 Hackers (Galaxy pilot, Gun 1)
Squad 2:
2 medics
4 rifles
2 maxes
2 Hackers (Galaxy pilot, Gun 1)
Squad 3:
4 snipers (Galaxy gun 2, 3 x 2)
2 buggy drivers
2 buggy gunners with cloaks
2 dedicated air support
I could put lightnings in for the buggies or just leave the passenger seats open for deployment purposes. That would give me an additional 2 air support. Then if cloakers are needed, I can switch out 1 or 2 snipers. I think it would mainly depend on the amount of indoor vs. outdoor fighting on that call.
The problem is, now I'm abandoning the galaxies for the duration of the ground engagement. However, given the 30 soldier resource limit, it seems like the galaxy crews will have to pull their own weight on the ground, and a lot of other sacrifices will have to be made in the battle group.

Carl, outfits have jack shit to do with platoons, captures and experience. As far as the game is concerned, an outfit is just a tag and an extra chat channel.
Edit: airlift, you are way to heavy on support personell, experienced riflemen can hack and heal since the only thing required for those roles is a pistol slot and a little spare invo space, and you won't need four snipers. and wheres the AT Troopers and the Combat Engineers, those take rifle slots and as such shouldn't be taken lightly.

didn't someone say it'll go in hover mode in the air when you leave the driver seat? can't the park the galaxy in air, climb into the turret seat, and have a blast?

My medics are riflemen. I think 2 medics per squad is desirable to keep your troops alive, and more importantly to revive the fallen.
Edit: I was leaning heavily on the maxes to handle AT. Also, I'm pretty sure you can carry two rifles in the regular armor. so that gives my riflemen AT capabilities

[DsV] already has around 150 people.
Galaxies autoland if noone is in the drivers seat balab, but the cannons on that sucker are viscous and it could probly make decent emergency air cover (like a blackhawk), its not built for it but it can do it. And nothing says you can't go into combat with another platoon, two or three months into the game your not going to care about BEP since your probly maxed out anyway, you will just want that extra rifle on your side.
edit: bah, most people treat them like they aren't even able to carry a gun
