I was toying around with photoshop tonight with the intention of making a new sig for myself (not that I don't like 1024's, I just wanted to have my own). This is what I have come up with so far: http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/BlackHawkSig2.jpg
Please tell me what you think of it and post any constructive criticism you might have.

One of my friends said maybe I should split the X from the BlackHawk and put the X below the BlackHawk

I always belived that all signatures should have an outline of some sort... in photoshop it is called "stroke"

But other than that, good start!

eMa- I am the biggest PhotoShop n00b on the surface of the earth and no nothing about strokes. Could you tell me a bit about how to do them or lead me to a tutorial?

ooo yes please post a link for even a rudimentary tutorial. As you can see by my sig I am an even bigger Photoshop noob than blackhawk.

lol, i just want to say that oma in german means grandmother.
so i thought you meant that you wanted a grandmother signature... lol... anyways.

So, normally what i do is open a new file in Photoshop with a slightly larger than what you want transparent canvas.
Then i take that selection tool thing, the square, and do a selection over the transparency to the size and dimension to what i want (normally a rectangular shape). Then click new layer and fill in that square with a color (lets say white.)
So you have your white square, now go to your layer menu and find your white squre layer (should be layer 2) right click that and go to... um..whats it called... /me thinks...oh bloody hell, let me open up my photoshop real quick... ok, its called "Blending options"
Go there, and then there should be (at the very bottom of the pop up screen) something called "stroke"
I normally always use a stroke on sigs and buttons and banners...and a lot of things.
I normally go with 1 px black...but fool around with it and see what you like the best.

Anyways, that is how i start signatures and get an outline on them.

technically, Gro|3mutter is grandmother, Oma would be more like "nana", or "gram".

FYI, Gro|3vater is grandfather, or Opa.

PS: |3 = s-zet, pronounced like "ss"

sorry, it's 2:30 here and i have nothing better to do than correct your german.

i'm tired.

btw: what does it take to get someone to make a sig for ya?
i have photoshop, but only on my old computer, which my brother has currently stolen. plus, most of these custom sigs are better than i could do.

well I'm not german or a grandmother so either way it doesnt matter :p (although I did get that a lot in my outfit because of everyone shortening it to OMA.....)

that outline thing is a good idea. I probally should do that. usually I start playing around with photoshop until I get an idea then I run with it. usually turns out nothing like how it started but its fun...

oh and the best way to get started its PLAY WITH EVERYTHING!!!! just open pictures or screenshots make simple things and try and play with all the buttons the shapes the layers, play with all the effects etc... it gives you a good idea of can do what...

to me a key thing is color combination (what colors compliment, overpower, clash, etc)
