Hey all, I was just curious if anyone else has had the expiernce of the offline tutorial just quitting at some point.

It happend to me when i had the demo during the vehicle part, nothing crashed or locked, the tutorial just STOPPED like an event got screwed up, i was left just wandering around.

I just bought the box and started a new account. This time the tutorial doesnt even generate the first waypoint, it just has the first speiel about the inteface then it says go to the first waypoint but no waypoint ever materialises.

Is there a fix for this?

I wouldnt care too much except I understand that theres certification points to be gained from the tutorial.

Glad you made that post as I've been pulling my hair out over the same darn thing and thought it was something stupid with my pc - I have the problems exactly as you described, first the vehicle tutorial can't be completed properly and then waypoint dissapear from the first.

Have you tried running the second tutorial? On my machine now it crashes to desktop after about 10 seconds of showing the corridor grrrrr

Yes, I tried the second one when I saw it was available got the same damn thing.

I think i saw a review of Planetside and the reviewer had the same issue. I cant find it anymore though, and I cant remember if he had a solution.

Oh well

Hi, same problem here. :(
After installing the game (no demo), I went immediately to the offline training. No problem with the first mission, but the second.. it looks like something is not happening.. I'm left there to wonder around.
After subscribing (and downloading the huge patch) things got worse, now all my offline training send me directly to desktop heaven (read-->PS crashes).
No problem up to now with online gaming...

Well, I've now written three emails (and a fourth just now) AND spoken to a GM yesterday regarding this problem. I've never had ANY acknowledgement or response from the three emails, and the GM yesterday said he'd send me an email with instructions for solving this problem, which, surprise surprise I've never received. Hmph.

The link below is for SOE PlanetSide live GM chat if you want to use it - but when you go to type a description of your problem, highlight it and copy & paste it (say to notepad) so you can use it again, as almost every time I've use the instant chat, only AFTER writing all that stuff does it helpfully tell you that no GM's are available, and deletes everything you just typed! GRRR

Not that this is frutstrating the hell out of me or anything! :(

PLEASE if any of you manage to get any kind of useful response from anyone, post it here (as will I, when hell freezes over probably at this rate)

Hi all again, just as a follow up to my last post, I've actually managed now to speak to a GM about the issue. Just thought you'd like to see what was said out of interest (no solution I'm afraid, though it is being looked into apparently)

Don't go flaming me if you think I've been unreasonable - I'm just frustrated about not being able to play on a level-playing-field with everyone else...

Establishing Connection
Thank you for your patience. The next available will answer your request in the order it was received
You have been connected to CSR Aaron M..
CSR Aaron M.: Hello Daniel, Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. One moment please, while I read your question. Thank You!
Daniel Durrant: I spoke to you regarding this issue the other day. You said you'd sent an email to me about it, but I've never received it.
CSR Aaron M.: Sorry to hear that.
CSR Aaron M.: Click on START, RUN, and at the open line type in dxdiag. Hit OK. That will bring up your Direct X Diagnostic Tool.
CSR Aaron M.: Click on the DISPLAY tab at the top. Under Device, what is the NAME of the video card?
Under drivers on the right what is the Version number?
(i.e. Version: X.XX.XX.XXXX.)
Now, what is Approx. Total Memory?
Daniel Durrant: I've now written four emails over the last two weeks, and spoken to a GM once and still nothing.
Daniel Durrant: The name is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600
Daniel Durrant: Main Driver nv4_disp.dll version 6.14.0010.4523 (English)
Daniel Durrant: Approx total memory is 256 Mb
CSR Aaron M.: The e-mail I sent you is in my sent items folder still.. You should have gotten that.
Daniel Durrant: ...and I'm already running with Direct X 9b as well.
Daniel Durrant: What address did you send it to?
Daniel Durrant: I have [email protected]
CSR Aaron M.: One moment please, while I look into that. Thank you.
Daniel Durrant: ok, thanks.
CSR Aaron M.: The tutorials are broken. What happens when you go in game?
Daniel Durrant: It seems to run fine so far - but I don't WANT to go into the game without going through the tutorials. They were working fine when I first got the game but due to other things I didn't have much chance to do anything with PS so I'd only ever run the first two. And now they're unusable.
CSR Aaron M.: You can do the online training to gain experience. That works fine Daniel.
CSR Aaron M.: You can try all weapons there and gain experience.
Daniel Durrant: Yes I know, but that does not give me a fair start in the game does it. I don't mean to sound argumentative but I know from others that the tutorials give lots of very useful info which otherwise I'm only going to gradually learn randomly whilst getting killed left, right and centre in the actual game.
Daniel Durrant: This is a HUGE problem, why is no one working on it?
Daniel Durrant: If they were not required they would not have been included I should think.
CSR Aaron M.: Actually Daniel believe me I know, the in game training provides much more advantage then doing the offline training (positive on that one). The tutorial offline is being looked into.
CSR Aaron M.: Ok Daniel, Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Daniel Durrant: But there are no introductions and directions in-game! So I only can learn things by walking up to something and activating it - which means I'm bound to miss stuff.
CSR Aaron M.: Ok Daniel, Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Daniel Durrant: I guess not. I basically can not play a game that I payed for properly until (if) the tutorial is sorted out.
CSR Aaron M.: Not at all you can play every part of that massive game except the tutorial Daniel. But everyone looks at things different, right?
Daniel Durrant: Status of MAJOR issues like this should be posted on the website - can that not be passed on? I'm very irritated (not with you personally) that not one of my emails has been acknowledged or responded to.
CSR Aaron M.: At this point it is being looked into (tutorial) nothing really else to e-mail about? Right?
CSR Aaron M.: I sent it to the email you provided me last chat session.
Daniel Durrant: I never even was told that - it's only through speaking to YOU twice that I've got that far.
CSR Aaron M.: I copy and paste what you type in before you come in chat.
Daniel Durrant: Anyway, thanks for your time.
Daniel Durrant: I can't wait to actually enjoy the game, hopefully soon :)
CSR Aaron M.: Ok Daniel, Thank you for visiting our SOE Chat line. Take care and have a Good Day!
Thank you for using InstantService. You may now close this window.

I played the tutorial up to the vehicle mission. In that one it wouldn't load any buildings and I just saw a huge plain. I tried updating it afterwards and since then I can't do any training without it crashing within about 10 seconds.

Quarx Jefferson, that was good.
At least we know that something (maybe..) is going on.
So I guess that all you folks are, like me, trying everything..
I just killed my self throwing a grenade.. maybe in the offline training there was something about it.. :(

I tried online support. I got blew off with the cursory; "The developers are aware of the problem and are working on a fix"

Your blow-off seemed to be much more satisfying than mine. It took a couple hundred more words...

Did you install all patches up to today? I havent played the tutorial for a while but when i played there was a patch that fixed it. If you have got all the patches then there might be some patch conflicting going on. This, will probably never be fixed because of SOE's shotty bug response. That guy was a total prick to you, the tutorial was very helpful to me...

The tutorial is bugged, has been since it was first out in beta

BTW, if you NEED the tutorial to play any game ever then you should pack up PS and take away any chance of playing any PC game ever again. Go out and play and experience the actual game
